Hi, is it possible of controling a gear (rotating sector) using a switch. When the switch is on, the sector would rotates, when it is off, it wouldn't?

I tryed using Activators but it doesn't work, the sector always rotates.

Thanks

I have a question for you: how did you make the gear sectors, exactly? I tried to make a sign like in E3L1, but instead of spinning on an "axis," it spun on a revolution (for example, the earth around the sun). I've looked at tutorials, and have read insturcions but I cannot make it correctly. Mail me a map with steps to the final.

Oh yeah, I don't think you can swith it on/off. If you could they would've put in in Buildhlp.

You need to change the angle of your gear SE to point the other way.

And Buildhlp says a lot of stuff that simply isn't the case. For example it explicitly states that subways cannot be made to go at different speeds - anyone who has played the Atomic edition can tell you that 3DR's own maps break this rule.

No surprise to me that buildhlp was rushed. It was updated for the atomic edition minorly - it meantions some new things like lightning.

?? There are a lot of Build help files available now, including on RTMC. – And as for any Help file, it is just that, a help file. The best way to study is to rip the maps apart. Well that is how I learn; and have not completely read any help file, they all have flaws and short comings. Yet they suffice to get one started, as long as it is not treated as the authority, and a forum is maintained to ask questions.

You can not start/stop the rotating sector within Build, nor edit the Cons to suit, and I have not found anything on E-Duke either. Even if 3D Realms would have spend every conceivable effort in publishing a thorough Build Help file, the answer to Father-Marrow’s original question still would have been a no. - And the subway speed was not asked, but I am certain the correct answer would have been given.

I'd have to investigate, but the Buildhelp stuff was written in a big hurry and at the last second when we released v1.3d.

I don't remember if it was updated for Atomic or not - memory says no.

Stating the obvious again, we have a hope in hell seeing the source code. images/icons/grin.gif

Thanks for the tip about E-Duke, its time for me to get into it.

Thanks for stating the obvious (and it's RTCM) but the point is the official documents are erroneous.

Matteus has the Duke source and the build source is released. If you really wanted to do something with build that Duke couldn't do you'd use the build source. Besides - the Build source has better code for newer CPU's than the old source used for Duke. If you wanted the Duke source specifically to port it you'd need to get the Build source working first - and although it has been ported mostly it's by no means perfect. Oh not forgetting you need to get hold of Watcom C by some miracle means.
Basically there's no particular reason to want the Duke source for any reason other than a port and Matteus and Loki can do that. The other additions could be readded by a competent programmer and probably done better for today's machines.
