I'm looking for a piece of software (preferably free) that will allow me to take chunks out of mp3 files. Say I have this file, and I want to take a clip that starts at 0:42 and ends at 1:18 . That kind of stuff.
Anyone know of a piece of software that will do this? I don't normally do this kind of thing, and our sounds guy here at 3DR is away on vacation, or I'd ask him.
It's for one of the music websites I do.
Danke.

MP3DirectCut is really nice. It lets you edits MP3's directly, without having to re-encode. And it's tiny, only 122k!

Well it's not made for this use, but the program is called Adobe Premiere. I guess you know what it is for, but I normaly just import the audio file in the timeline, and place it in the audio line and then I cut it, and then I do Export the Timeline, and I am done.
Just telling you this in case you happen to have it. I am not sure you can find a free version of it. :s

Joe asking for free software, aren't you the one that used to say no good software is free http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif anyway I'd go for audacity multi-platform and open source and a good stable product.

I use this in Linux. I had no idea there was a Windows version!
It is, however, an excellent piece of software.

I always use Goldwave (http://www.goldwave.com) for my audio editing needs.
It doesn't do multiple tracks at once though, so if you want the first 30 seconds of like 300 songs for example you're not gonna find this program useful. It also ain't free, with a 50$ pricetag.
But it's been extremely helpful for me, I came across it on these forums by the way http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

yes goldwave is probably the best free sound editing program. unfortunately the interface is a bit dated but don't let that fool you. personally i use adobe audition (formerly known as cool edit pro 2 before they bought it over - it's basically the same program relabelled).
