I had duke advance, and i thought it was a really nice game for a GBA game.

What is your thoughts on a DS version of duke nukem? The touch screen would work really nice with a duke game.

I think this has been discussed before but no hard feelings! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hhg.gif Anyway, yeah it would be cool but IBTD (hehe) about the touch screen, maybe menus and utility selection or something but not for main control.

Anyway thats just my opinion http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

the touchscreen would work fine on the hud if you ask me, you could choose weapons, and use items and stuff... The main control should be with the arrow buttons...

P.S. i would actually buy a DS just to play it then, But it has to be a new Duke game though http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/redface.gif

does the DS have enough ram to run a fan port of duke3D as a downloadable?

I think so...

If it can run Super Mario 64 in better graphics, and updated gameplay stuff... then i think that it could even look better than the Original Duke3D http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

But who knows... http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/redface.gif

My guess is that it'd run a port of Duke3D really well. But personally Id prefer a new game, not a remake of a previous one.

I think idea of Duke Nukem on Nintendo DS is much better than GBA. GBA Duke Nukem games should of stayed in 2D the 3D in GBA version of GBA stinked the graphics were all crappy and crooked and the game was like .2 FPS

My idea's for Duke Nukem 64's Screens and Controls

Controls:
Move around with the D pad.
R button to Fire Current weapon
L+R to switch weapon ammo type.
A button to Jump
L button + A to Duck
L Button to open doors.
B Button to look through inventory.
Stylus to look up and down and all around.
Y Button to Use Items in Inventory
X Button + Left or right on the D Pad to switch weapons.

Top Screen Display:
The Game
Health Display
Ammo display
Armor Display
Key Display.

Touch Screen Display:
Map
Inventory Items
Level Name
Level Time
Monsters Killed/left
Babes saved/left
Secrets Found/missed
The Map of the level.

yeah thats my little run down on it.

Uh, why are you guys calling it Duke Nukem 64? Wouldn't be Duke Nukem DS? The reason I ask is that there already is a game called "Duke Nukem 64", it was a port of Duke Nukem 3D to the Nintendo 64.

I'm sure if there was to be a Duke DS, it wouldn't just be a port of Duke3D. The last several non PC Duke games haven't been ports.

But that's a personal guess - there's no plans, hence I don't know anything. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Dukebots are a must have if you port it also so people could play multiplayer if no one was arround.

Believe me - we know about game consoles before you do, and a game being put out there is decided by Scott & George, who own the company and decide projects.

Believe me, they know about the DS, and the PSP, and all the other consoles / phones / etc. Whether it means a game will come out - who knows? I don't decide those things.

The one thing I dont quite get is why Duke Nukem 64? I thought that was just a direct port of the original DN3D? (hopefully somebody can put me right on this)

Anyway, the DN3D source is released, If anyone feels up to porting it for DS....

I wouldn't call it a direct port.....graphics were optimized for N64, levels were changed around slightly (some from newer D3D versions were put in there)....and no flashing strippers..... http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Yet I'm sure when they made the blood and gore look its best on N64 no one at Nintendo Censor HQ turned an eye...http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif Come to think of it, didn't they put in MORE gore since they had to censor the strippers and some of Duke's comments? http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Duke 64 was fun, but alot of the atmosphere that made it "duke" was lost, i imagine to keep nintendo's censors from messing their pants.

The commentary, strippers, and overall gritty feel of the game created by porn mags, video screens, etc, was lost. The commentary was a big part of duke. They even changed the XXX book store to a gun shop.

They don't seem to be as strict on censors as they used to be though, i guess they realised that most consumers arn't little kids, and that most gamers are intrested in more mature games (the GTA series has been selling like crazy). Having mature content can add alot to a game, especially when it comes to realism; The world is not a sugar-coated place with happy dancing cartoon animals.

Honestly, there shouldn't even be any censors needed now; Thats what the ESRB is for. If a kid does get their hands on a mature game, its the parents fault for giving it to them, or the stores fault for selling it to them. They don't censor R rated movies because parents might let their children watch them, so why censor games?

Then again it is nintendo we are talking about, probably the most conservative game company in existance. All in all, their strong stance on censors and family oriented values has hurt them in the long run, as it it is good for children and familys, but bad for older single gamers, and guess which group the gaming consumers mainly consist of? bingo.

Actually, if you think of it, the touch screen should be an absolute perfect control system for FPS games. It may be used like a touchpad on a laptop, which gives you a fine-grained, analog control over your crosshair. So you could use your thumb on the touchscreen to target and some buttons for the other hand for firing.

Of course I haven't laid my hand on a DS, so I don't know if its touchscreen is appropriate for using it like that. And since i've just got myself a PSP, I'll probably never know...

Yes, it's perfect for that actually. The touchscreen is extremely versatile in general, and you feel pretty connected to what you are doing. It's a great system... too bad you got the PSP. So expensive, and fairly fragile from what I've heard. Not my sortof deal.

Oh well.

Please bring it to the ds is. One of my favorite n64 games. Probably played it te most out of any game I had for the 64, including goldeneye.
Was bored a while ago and made a quick crappy mock up of one way to do it.

Heres another one I worked up.

I think the layout on this is best. FOr people wanting to use touchscreen for movement the inventory is more out of the way.. Scroll buttons should be more toward the center of the item though, or maybe toward the top of the screen where the item name is. Or, instead of using the touch scroll buttons to select an item you can use the select botton teh scroll through items on the bottom screen...

With the dual screen, I think it make sense to put ammo and health info on the touch screen. Your eyes will end up looking down to focus at the info anyway, might as well have an entirely clean screen..THe HUD I put on the botton of the screen might be better suited for the top part of the touch screen and should probably be reworked, but its just a rough concept with 5 mins of thinking and working with paint.

Anyway, I dont think it will happen, but it would be pretty cool if it did. A fresh game would be cool too, which is probably the route 3drealms would want to go if they are actually considering this, but it would be cool to have some old levels:)

Maybe 3DR will allow a third party company to produce a Duke3d port to DS, for more income/revenues for 3DR?

(Or a brand new game, evolving the Duke Nukem 3d gameplay. Modeled weapons and monsters, etc. Kinda branching out to....the next game.)

You have any GameStop, GameCrazy, EB, something of those lines around where you live? I've found it a couple of times around...

GameStop - Duke Nukem Zero Hour (http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=918223)

The website has it backordered, but I've seen them have a copy left.

Now here's one for SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than GameStop's and has it in stock...

EB Games - Duke Nukem Zero Hour (http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/159968.asp)

I hope this helps you in your quest of the game... http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dopefish.gif

Suggestion: Item selection AND mini-map on the second screen.

Question: Are you sure that you would want the item menu to take the touchscreen? Seems like the stylus would be required for looking up/down. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
