Has anyone checked out this awesome looking FPS?
I'm a huge DOOM 3 fan, and also LOVE Max Payne 2, so I'm of course looking for things that I can play when not playing those. Sometimes you just need a change of pace.
Project: Snowblind looks just like the type of game I need.
Innovative weapons, the ability to use special powers (ala Psi-Ops), plus the game has tactical/stealth on top of swarms/warfare?
The trailers blow me away. You should totally check this out, if you haven't yet.

Another thread... wasn't there one not long ago?

Yup. You might want to be a Deus Ex fan as well, because this was originally going to be a more action-oriented Deus Ex.

Duoae: I tried to find the original thread as I'm new to the boards, but I don't believe these forums have a search feature. If you can tell me how I might find the original thread so I can see others feeling for Project: Snowblind I'd appreciate it.
Reaper: Yes, I have heard that Snowblind is the next in the Deus Ex series, the developers themselves have stated this fact.
It this on top of all the other things they've promised that make me so excited about it.

The search link is at the top of the page, next to the "Main Index" link.

To be fair, the search feature is utter crap. I've tried using it multiple times only to find that it is easier to actually search back page by page.
I do believe that the old thread was gone. It was not as much a complaint as more of a questioning statement. I didn't mean any offence by it... it just seemed that not long ago there was a thread talking about this.

To both: Thanks, I was able to figure out the Search and I see no other thread exists.
I'm guessing the interest for Project: Snowblind on the 3D Realms board must be low though.
While it must be fun waiting for Duke Nukem and DOOM 3 is awesome with it's coming expansion pack, neither are anything like what Snowblind seems.
I've tried following some of the other conversations, but Snowblind is one of the games I'm most excited by so, I'm trying to go around boards and get others perceptions. Good stuff elsewhere, nothing here yet though.

Snowblind was going to be another game set in the Deus Ex universe however they decided to go their own route and make it an entire new game.. if memory serves.

I think they renamed it because DXIW flopped badly.

I always kinda thought that was the other reason, however wasn't positive and didnt want to bring up something I wasn't sure about

I've noticed that IW isn't considered a very strong game.
That game was devloped by Ion Storm, but Project: Snowblind is being done by Crystal Dynamics.
Many times sequels even if made by the same developer aren't as good as they should be, especially when done so quickly and probably more pushed for by the distibutor than the developer. At least that is what I noticed. That isn't ALWAYS the case... sometimes it's because the first game wasn't what the developer wanted. and they were rushed the first time around, but I think the latter was the case this time.
Anyways... since Crystal Dynamics are doing this game, I have high hopes at their attempts of a new, different FPS.

Strange guerilla marketing for Project: Snowblind from Eidos Germany?
http://www.eidosmedia.de/Project_Snowblind_Teaser.zip
It seems to be a genuine .theprodukkt 96K demo.
(You know the old farbrausch demos or the .kkrieger 96k first person shooter.)
http://www.theprodukkt.com/
Pretty cool IMO.

That's a very intriguing link, but the filesize scares me, plus it's in German., so I'm a little suspicious, BUT... if it's working to let Germans know about Project:Snowblind it's cool.
What's better on multi-player than killing people in other countries? Killing people in your own country by online multi-player of course... but a couple of Germans up on the servers could always add fun.
Here's to International SNOWBLIND!
For those of you following this post btw, there's a brand new trailer up at projectsnowblind.com...
also they announced Reflex boost, which is sorta like "Bullet Time". This game keeps looking better and better!

it looks like it should have been developed either for consoles or for pc, imo unless they seriously tweak it, it'll be another bad consoleport for PC - just like almost every other game that has been launched at the same time for both types. The dude can take a beating, 3 guys shooting at him and he's just standing there, the usual stuff. Latest example was the new starwars shooter just a few days ago.
Looked interesting but I just hate console FPS games. Too bad :/

I think Geurilla might be implying that Snowblind is running on .kkreiger tech. (www.theprodukkt.com)

I believe Project: Snowblind is actually using a new engine developed by Crystal Dynamics. Yet, if it does use this .kkreiger at all, well, it's using it to create one amazing looking and exciting FPS!

For clarifiacation:
I was just linking a "demo scene" demo, which seems to be a marketing gag by Eidos Germany. It's like a sophisticated flash advertisement and was done by the demo group ".theprodukkt", which also made the well known 96K shooter ".kkrieger".
It doesn't include the actual game engine nor other actual game content.

The following info might be of interest to Snowblind fans present and future.
Official X-Box Magazine gave Project: Snowblind a strong 8.4 review score.
They say the graphics are good and specially mentioned the cutscenes and story. They also gave the voice acting and sound effects good comment. The big deal is that they say the multiplayer is excellent. Looks like we have a winner here!

Oh man. I hope it isn't your standard console port. I thought it was going to be a simultaneous release on all systems.
Things are looking up if they made the multiplayer work, though.

For clarification:
That's not flash at all, not even close. It was created with an engine called "werkizug" or something to that effect. Anyways, the engine relies on procedually generated textures, geometry, etc... to get the very small file size. It's a real time 3D engine that uses OpenGL afaik. It's been used in a number of farbraush demos too.

Project: Snowblind is still a simul release, no porting, no worries there. OXM just happened to do their review when they did. I'm sure other reviews will start trickling in. If PXM gave it such a good score, it's a GREAT sign.

Of course it isn't flash. It's a typical demo from the demo scene. As I said.
I was comparing its function (in marketing) to flash advertisments.
I'm sorry, if I chose the wrong words.

There's no word on when the PC version is coming, but the console versions are still feb. 22nd. PC version is apparently still being tested and tweaked.

Could we be witnessing the coming of Deus Ex's spiritual sucessor? Although I don't think it'll be what Deus Ex 2 should have been (and who am I to say what Dx2 should have been?), it'll be interesting to see how this game turns out.

Nope. This game SCREAMS: "pure uninspired rehashed shit."
It's standard kiddie-arcade fare - console crap ported to PC and trying to pretend it's actually a real game.

I bet you are you the "Autopilot2" who's been complaining about Republic Commando on LucasArts' forums. (I've responded as "Farouk_de")
http://forums.lucasarts.com/thread.jspa?threadID=27853&tstart=0
I share your feelings about Republic Commando and about Project:Snowblind, too.
But I still hope P:S might be ok, if just the map design is big and open enough.
I will keep a look on that game in the hope to be positively surprised. But I don't expect much, right now.
After all it's better to hope for such games than to fall for the PC mass market hype. Neither Doom3 nor Half Life 2 are more sophisticated in gameplay than the typical console turds.

I respect your opinions Autopilot, but Guerilla's confidence keeps me happy.
As the days get closer and the more previews, videos, screenshots and q & a's I find and discover from, the more and more excited I get for Project: Snowblind. I can't wait to finally play an FPS that seems so dedicated to telling a really good story as well being attractive and extremely playable. Very hard things to balance, but I think Project: Snowblind is going to pull off all three bar none.

Any of you guys catch the commercial for Project: Snowblind yet? It's aired during Smackdown, Adult Swim, Simpsons and others this week and will be on Cartoon Network, Spike, Comedy Central, etc. before and release next week.
It's a nice piece, shows off the game really well and is exciting and fast paced with soem aweomse gameplay and cutscene footage in a quick spot. Definitely made me want to go and play more than before!
