Here's a problem:
I recently started investigating SVGA programming. I tried setting video modes at various color depths at 640*480 resolution and above. And on every attempt I got a lousy 60hz refresh rate. Now the thing is, when I change the resolution in windows, regardless of color depth, I seem to get 80+ hz refresh rate, so the question is, how do I tell my ATI 3d rage (I use an old machine for programming a testing) to give me a decent refresh rate? I searched through the informative Programmer's Guide to the EGA, VGA and SVGA graphics cards, and Ralpha Browns interrupt list, but I seem to be missing something. Can anyone suggest a course of action?
thanks in advance
