View Full Version : FINALLY - Late Goodbye Sheet Music for Piano

I would just like to warn people that the Music is (as I said) quite a bit harder than m Max Payne Transcription... But this time is sounds like a full piece (Meaning I've made it sound as instrumental as the original). I have had to Zip it in 3 Files however... Because 3DRealms won't allow you to post anything over 100Kbs... So the three files are Pages 1, 2+3, and 4+5.

I also have the Piano Midi File of the sheet Music, and the Instrumental Midi File (I originally transcribed the Late Goodbye theme to an Instrumental Version, and then used that to create the Piano Version)...

SO WITHOUT FURTHER ADO - The first Page of 'Late Goodbye - Piano Sheet Music is attached!

------------------------------------------------------------------------

I must add that the sample 1st Page I posted earlier is a draft version... so there's probably a couple of notation mistakes in it. These 3 Files here are the latest and worked over.

And Finally - The Last piece of the Puzzle... http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif The 4th and 5th Pages of The Late Goodbye Piece...

Thank you Sayantan - That made me feel very chuffed... http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif Sorry it took me so long, as I wasn't going to publish it until I myself was sure that there weren't any (and I mean ANY) mistakes in it. I hope you all enjoy playing it...

The only thing that annoys me now - Is that I put so much effort into this Transcription - I'm now not happy with the Max Payne one... I Made it way too easy... Plus it was a rush Job.

I might (maybe just might) start on a very hard version one day for all those who like a challenge. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Till then - I'm glad everyone so far seems to enjoy it, and I hope I get an e-mail from POTF soon telling me they liked it as well.

WHAT???? It was sadly enough... It only took me a couple of hours to do that, whereas the Late Goodbye certainly took me days to do. I like to write music to challenge pianists. The Late Goodbye I can play, perfect (Probably because I've been learning for only a decade.) but the Max Payne Thing, that was sight-reading for me and gave me no challenge.

Having said that... A lot of people might not be doing Music for their life skill (unlike me) so I guess if people want to play it, you have to find a sort of average grade to transcribe for or people will either think it is too easy or too hard.

Joonas

So... you wouldn't happen to have a "proper" version of the theme somewhere buried on your hard drive?

Piano Man
02-23-2005, 06:32 PM
I don't have a proper one yet, but I'll see if I can get to it during the term holidays (I won't be able to do it till probably late april, because I start my 3rd Year of Uni next Monday.

What I plan to do for my next holidays (In june or July is try and do a Piano Version of the Very own DUKE NUKEM THEME!!!! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

There's probably heaps of people wanting to play this.... Is there???? I hope...

I still never got a reply from Poets of the Fall... very annoying... and I sent it over 3 months ago... Damn.

I wonder what Remedy's view on me re-writing their Max Payne theme for Piano is... I thought I would have gotten something from them by now...

Grabbag - Duke Nukem Theme.

Quick (and serious question) for 3DRealms.

Is it Ok to transcribe the Grabbag Theme for Piano Players?

I'm certainly not going to make any money off it, obviously or you'd sue the pants off of me.

Who is head of Music Joe??? and if He asks why I want to do this, tell him it's because I'm sick of seeing easy transcripts that a 2 year old could play, and want people to play pieces like these properly.

If he needs to see some of my work, show him my Transcrition of Late Goodbye.

The one who did Grabbag was Lee Jackson, though I dunno if that's your actual question.

'ello everyone

Wow, this really looks great, i absolutely love this song, it was actually through Max payne i discovered POTF :)

But, since im not that great at reading notes, could anyone comment on this? how accurate is it? now i dont ask this to be rude Piano Man, i ask it becouse i am educating myself to become a Musical artist, and cant show up with notes that might be innacurate.

So, anyone who has played this? would appreciate any comments.

Cheers!

Hey - Don't worry about it... it's natural to be hesitant about most of the stuff we get off the internet these days... If it helps to calm your mind, I have a degree in Music education, and have transcribed more than a dozen songs from Billy Joel to game music.... I did one arrangement of a World of Warcraft song or something... can't remember the name of the piece.

I myself have been playing piano for almost 14 years, and I'm about to sit the 2nd hardest Piano Exam in Australia.... It's accurate, and I mean, it's damn accurate.

Also, if you open up the zip file at the very top... One of the zip files should have a midi file attached as well.... it is an exact playing of the music you see on the page.

Why dont you make a mp3 of many other instruments, like an orchestra, with piano being the lead, and then we can have a nice listen. I'd  that PianoMan. :D

Great work with the song :) its accurate, and its wonderful to be able to sing this at last since POTF dont have any official sheet music.

Just one question though, do you have a version where the text is printed out, and at the right places? since i might want to change the...hmm whats the english word for it...order of the song? (hope you understand what i mean) and thats hard since i dont always know where i am in the notes, and i have to be able to instruct the pianist.

Thanks again

How's the Duke Theme coming along? I really want to have that to play. I've been looking around, and all I can find are midis and one site with tabs (I play the sax, so tabs are a different world).

Every day I find a new reason to appreciate the internet. I can safely say without a doubt in my mind this is one of them. From one piano man to another I just want to thank you for sharing what you have learned with all of us.

Ever since I first completed Max Payne 2 I fell in love with this song because of the lyrics, rhythm, and overall vibe that it brings to the end of another Max Payne adventure. I had no idea who the Poets of the Fall were but boy did I find out.

Eventually I realized I could find sheet music for the section played by a Squeaky Cleaner thug in one of the levels. I took to it like candy and learned it all in one day after practicing for hours. I literally thought that was as good as it could get, but recently I took up the piano again after a long hiatus.

Late Goodbye was just sitting there waiting for me in all its short-lived glory. A little disappointment drove me to get online and find out what I could. Sure enough the 3D realms forum popped up as an exact match and you know what I did? I joined just so I could partake of this musical treasure.

I just got the contents a few minutes ago and I'm off to take a stab at this ambitious piece. Just wanted to let you know that we all appreciate what you've done and that it means more to us than you'll ever know. I can tell you're very talented and that your skill will take you far in life. It's a beautiful gift what you have, and I encourage you to take it as far as you're willing to go. It will open up doors, find new people, and send you soaring through the realms of joy and bliss.

I get great delight when I sit down and play the piano. It strips me of all my cares and worries, and for just an hour of my life I'm content to be producing the sounds that I love. This is my first post ever at the forum and I don't want to hog spotlight or take up room, but you rock, amigo.

Thanks again for this amazing piece and keep up the good work. We're all behind you!

Holy crap... with a thanks like that... you have me in awe. I'm glad so many people appreciate as well as like the transcription. I AM going to do the Duke Nukem theme... unless George B PM's me and tells me not to - I did try and e-mail him... but never got a response... but I'm doing it for free just because I can... plus I like to put my talent to good use. I plan to do it during the summer holidays (which over here is december and january.) I can't do it right now only because I have work and god is it busy.

Jedi... I agree with the ability to sit at the piano and not worry about the woes and worries of life... I'm currently trying to learn a Piano Concerto as well as worry about an exam next september where I have to play a 50 minute recital. And believe me - the pieces are bloody hard. This as well as trying to survive my first year of teaching.

If anyone wants to take a gander at any of my original compositions... they can be seen here:

Only if your truly bored. http://www.sibeliusmusic.com/cgi-bin/user_page.pl?url=peterjohnston

I will update this thread when I have completed the Duke Theme....

OK gang.... here's a little snippet of what I've done so far - I started a little early, but at this point - this is only the midi file, as it's the only way I can get it under 100kb but I will definately try and up the proper recording once I finish it. This is the first 55 secs so far.... there are a couple of accents that I need to take out that break the fluidity of the piece... but tell me what you think of it so far.

hey i got one question ...how can i play ur midi-files because my windows media player doesnt recognize them :(

Piano Man
11-29-2007, 04:39 AM
If it just won't open them - then I have no idea why the hell that would happen, but if it seems to open them but doesn't actually output any sound, it could be that the midi mapper is set to something weird that just won't allow you to play midi sounds through the controller.

Go to Control Panel - then to sounds and audio devices and set the midi mapper to the Microsoft Synthesizer (piece of shit).... then try playing the midi files.

Give me another message if that doesn't help or PM me.

i could take the midi files and convert it to mp3 with real sounds of orchestra like..
if i get the rights from you to do it :) anyway.. if i make it, i would upload it to some other site for fast transfer speed and not split it into parts.

Actually I might be able to do it myself at home - I have the Garritan Personal Orchestra Pack which cost me a couple of hundred... but I could render it pretty well on that... I'll give it a try. I actually performed the Max Payne Theme on my piano at home....

If you want to check it out - it's here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DmWpZ1JgeI

Beware - it has a couple of mistakes in it... i will practice it and perform it properly soon. I'm also in the middle of trying to write out the whole Grabbag Theme for the Piano...

Piano Man: Great job on the piano! :) It's so cool seeing the Max Payne theme song played live on a real piano! :) You played it very well, the timing and pacing all sound very correct, which just the right emphasis on the various notes. Bravo! :)

You mentioned there being a couple of mistakes. Did you mean there were mistakes only on the earlier version of the video you had uploaded at first, were those mistakes corrected in a new performance of the song which you then uploaded, or did you mean you uploaded a higher quality video of the same performance of the song (which still has a couple mistakes in it)?

Piano Man

No - original video that was uploaded a few months back had quite a few wrong notes... Didn't bother to practice... and it was shot from my mobile phone...

The NEW video up for the last two weeks was a proper digital video recorder and was a better performance of the Max Payne Theme - this time... with NO wrong notes.

Hi all, I am 25 years old and I've been playing guitar for eight years. Recently I started giving lessons to beginner players, for about $10-15 a lesson. Once I started this however, my friends wanted in, and now they keep asking me for lessons. On the one hand I want to help them, but on the other hand, I'm doing valuable work for them and they don't ever want to pay.

hey, great work on both themes!! i love the "late goodbye" theme, i found it in (surprise surprise) max payne 2. i was just wondering, for the amateur piano player, if there was an easier version out there? i haven't played in a long while and this stuff is a little too advanced for me just yet, just wondering if anyone knew of anything.

Sorry Indefatigable... (love the nickname)

Don't know of a simpler version, but I could try and arrange one for everyone who wants it.

I may have arranged it a tad too hard for everybody, but thats only because I love to write the music in a way so that it still sounds 'true' and 'authentic' to the instrumental version.

Hi, Piano Man! You're just brilliant! I was so happy to find this sheet music, I'd been looking for it for such a long time! And I already have played it for 300000 times. But you know, Poets of the Fall has a full-lentgh instrumental (piano version of "Late Goodbye" and I absolutely love it! Actually - upon listening to the piece again - I think it's actually a piano version for four hands - because there are parts in the 2nd verse and chorus where there sound like way too many notes for a standard pianist to play this thing with their own two hands. I think the accompaniment was written for 2 hands like normal and someone wrote the them above it as well.

Check it out. It's the best quality I can get and I ain't re-recording it. This video is the 3rd time I've recorded it... and the only reason I ain't re-recording is because I am happy with the sound and video quality.

Thank you...

I figured it was about bloody time I put up a decent quality video of the Theme...

I remember the first one I took - which was recorded with my old mobile phone, then the 2nd was encoded badly, but looked better than the first.
