The Last Starfighter and War Games were two great 80's movies.

The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi were two great movies from the 80s, but they weren't really "80's movies," if you know what I mean.

Ghost
The Breakfast Club
Sixteen Candles
DALLAS: The Early Years (right Joe? http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif )

There was another I kinda liked, then again the effects and such were kinda cheesy, and I don't even know if this was an 80's movie. It was about these giant mosquito's. Anyone know what this one was?

All I know is that the '80's was perhaps the worst decade ever for good film, while the '70's was one of the best.

No, actually. The '70's are widely regarded to be probably the second-best decade for films after the '30's. The '90's were up there, too. I'm talking about serious films, not Star Wars movies, etc. Although, I happen to enjoy some of those also.

The 70's was a good decade for movies but so was the 80's and although some of the high end critics will say the 70's were best you can't deny that the 80 have some of the bigest and most popular films from the last centuary.

Back to the Future x3
Indiana Jones x3
The last two Star Wars films
Terminator
Aliens
The Shining
Blade Runner
Die Hard
Brazil
Who framed roger rabbit
ET
Top Gun
Rocky 3&4
Batman
Rambo x3
Crockadile Dundee
Ghost busters
9 to 5
48 Hrs.
Gremlins
Beverly Hills Cop
Lethal Weapon
Karate Kid
The Fly
Robocop
The Predator
The Witches of Eastwick
Coming to America
Scrooged
Working Girl
The Abyss

ok not all of them are classics but the 80's was the 2nd golden age of cinema when people flocked back to the pictures and technology / distribution advances along with video players made movies a big part of the 80's

More classic (i.e. criticaly acclaimed) movies from the 80's include

Chariots of Fire
Amadeus
Rain Man
The elephant man
Platoon
Tootsie
The Color Purple
Out of Africa
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Fatal Attraction
The untouchables
Driving Miss Daisy
Cinema Paradiso
Akira
Raging Bull
American Werewolf in London
Gandhi
Tootsie
The World According to Garp
Terms of Endearment
The Right Stuff
A Passage to India
Witness
Mona Lisa
The Color of Money
Blue Velvet
The Mission
My Beautiful Laundrette
Stand by Me
Bettie Blue (37°2 le matin)
The Last Emperor
Good Morning, Vietnam
Empire of the Sun
Dangerous Liaisons
Mississippi Burning
The Last Temptation of Christ
The Unbearable Lightness of Being
Dead Poets Society
The Fabulous Baker Boys
Shirley Valentine
A Dry White Season
My Left Foot

Now if you don't think that's an impressive list of films then I would love to know what films you do like!!

I'm sorry, but you're simply wrong again. Not only were the '90's a great decade for film, 1999 is in the top 5 of best years ever. This is all pretty common knowledge. Just as it's pretty much a consensus that the '80's sucked for flicks.

Those are some pretty arrogant remarks to make considering they're based on jack sh*t. 1999 in the top 5? Let's see you got classic films like "Wild, wild, west", "message in a bottle", and my favourite Pokemon the movie. That sure is a good year for movies, all bow down to the movie expert.

Not being arrogant at all, and not claiming to be a 'movie expert', just saying what has become the general consensus. There's no 'truth' here, after all; we're talking about opinions. I didn't make the shit up, I just agree with it. Anyone who sees a lot of films knows that 1999 was a great year.

How else would I come to the conclusion that it's a consensus, other than hearing it said many times by many people? You don't hear people saying 1995, to take a random year, was a great film year, but 1999, yeah, all the time. Anyway, I apologize for bringing it up, as the topic is great '80's films.

Current movies are too politicly corrlect for my taste! And they are all made in the same way. Just look at Scooby doo, league of extrodenary gentlemen, van helsin, hell boy, constantine - they might as well be the same movie. Look the same, acts the same (not scooby doo though).

Since 9/11 it's been even more downhill. We need more movies like in the 80s where they experimented with movies eventhough that might mean that the movie didnt become a blockbuster success. How many classics can you mention from the 2000s compared to 80s (I know that this decade is only half way done http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif) All we see now is remakes, comics in reallife and japanese movies - graah!!!

We need move movies like:
The Thing
The Shining
They Live
Revenge of the Nerds
Wierd Science
Indiana Jones (Tomb Raider doesnt come close at all!!!)
Back to the future
Aliens
predator
home alone, and so on :-)

Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (bad acting by child, ja ja bings ruined it a lot)
The Sixth Sense (Child actor SUCKED!!)
Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (ok, nothing to fantastic)
The Matrix (good first time watched)
The Mummy (pretty good)
The Blair Witch Project (original, but not good)
Fight Club (original and pretty good)
American Beauty (GREAT MOVIE!!)
Being John Malkovich (Sucked, too wierd for my taste)
Dogma (no thanks)
Sleepy Hollow (the director must not have had a head either :-P)

I'll reiterate: Death Wish III.

My favorite part is where the citizens of the slum knock some punk bikers off their rides with a taut chain, shoot them repeatedly while they're down, and they and THEIR CHILDREN dance, hoop, holler and generally celebrate amongst their corpses.

When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, looks you crooked in the eye and asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that:

"Have ya paid your dues, Jack?"

"Yessir, the check is in the mail."
