Okay, I'm playing KOTORII and I'm on Dantooine. When I go past where I landed into the next area, I start experiencing some hardcore lagging.

Specs:
ATI Radeon 9800
AMD Athlon XP 2600+
1024MB RAM

Even after setting every graphics setting there is to the lowest possible and turning off everything; it doesn't seem to change much (no visible change even after going from Highest to Lowest settings). All other planets do fine and no lagging whatsoever with Highest settings. But Dantooine is just a pain in the ass.

Anybody else run into this problem when playing the game?

I don't own the game, but I understand that lagging on Dantooine is a very common problem. You can chalk it up to one of the game's numerous bugs. The only solution at this point is to hope they fix it with a patch.

I think this is the fix for the lag:

Locate your swkotor.ini (maybe it's called swkotor2.ini) in your game directory. Open it with notepad and locate the [Graphics options] section. Under the last command of that section, add: "Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1" without the quotes. Save the file and that should fix it. If it doesn't work, simply remove that part from the ini file.

A patch is currently in the works and should be released soon.

There was sizable thread about the lag on Dantooine and other KOTOR 2 problems at one of the GameSpy.com forums.

That .ini hack worked for me. I have not noticed any drop in image quality either.

Supposedly a patch is close to being released, to fix a lot of this stuff.

Thank you. INI hack worked perfectly well. I can finally enjoy the rest of the game.

Sorry to bump this old thread, but the new 5.4 drivers from ATI mentions kotor in the release notes. Has anyone seen if they fix this problem without the ini fix?

Haven't personally tried, but what I have read at the Obsidian forums has been all over the place. Some people say yes, others no, some even say it makes it worse. I would say do it, since a lot of the people who had issues were using the old contol panel (use the CCC, if you have the ram)

It could be that LucasArts sent ATI a beta patch to test with, which as of last night hasn't been released.
