View Full Version : I Blew Up The United States
I've already mentioned this old song in another forum, but I thought I make an extra thread for it alone in the Popular Media forum, because it deserves it imo.
It's called "I Blew Up The United States" by WAS NOT WAS, the band who also composed the known song "Papa Was A Rollin' Stone", from the "Are You Okay?" album. Check attachment for a low-quality mp3 sample.
I especially like you to pay attention to song's lyrics:
I Blew Up The United States (1990)
-------------------------------------------------------
I set charges in Maine and Florida
In Washington and California
I gave fair warning and lit the fuse
Right at the beginning of the network news
All I did was listen to the Fates
I blew up the United States
Now little bits of Texas are floating up in space
I blew up the United States
I put plastique in the statue of Liberty
And my nerves got a little bit jittery
Poor little lady! There goes her head!
Her arm is melting and her eyes turned red
All I did was listen to the Fates
I blew up the United States
Now little bits of Texas are floating up in space
I blew up the United States
It's a free country, I'm within my rights
Every child should have a weapon And a ton of dynamite
My hand is steady And my eye is cold
A voice inside my head keeps saying "Do as you are told"
All I did was listen to the Fates
I blew up the United States
Now little bits of Texas are floating up in space
I blew up the United States
I http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/love.gif that song and lyrics!
I really had to laugh when I listened to it the first time. It's such a groooovy, funky song and I was really stunned how well the ironic lyrics fit into our current times, although it was composed and written in 1990 and thus has no relation to current terrorism or whatsoever. It's sarcasm/criticism on the "American Way" I guess.
I listened to it 10 times in a row today and I'm still listening and singing to it. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
Make George W. Bush listen to THIS song! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The final battle's already won
I'm taking hold of every moment
Given strength by the breath of life
I'm gonna stake my claim
I fight to survive!
Kumite, kumite

I've worked hard every night and day
So I'm prepared to make my way
Mind and body are the perfect team
Now's my chance to live my dream

Didn't they break up long before GW Bush was elected?
There's nothing really political in the song at all. He says he blew up the US, but he's not even saying that he dislikes America or any aspects of its society.
The message of this song is pretty nonexistant.

Jesus also break up long before we were born, but the message he carried out is still actual. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
There's nothing really political in the song at all.
Oh yes, there is. You would be surprised how f**kin' political the song is. Especially the fact that he mentions Texas.
George W. Bush is from Texas. And Texas is the state where all the sick and gun-crazy people come from who want to blow everything up. Blow up Iraq. Blow up Iran. Blow up everyone, because it's fun, because it looks cool. Oh yeah. Maybe we should blow up the United States. Wohooo! That explosion would look cool, huh?! Huh, shouldn't we do it, man?! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif
That's the mirror YOU have to look in and see yourself!
He says he blew up the US, but he's not even saying that he dislikes America or any aspects of its society.
He dislikes Texas and he dislikes american weapon laws and draws a picture of those kind of american people who are crazy for guns, gun sports and the like. It's like a mirror of the society he makes. It's not him who blew up the United States. It's the american people who made the weapons laws in America.
He does the same what Michael Moore did in "Bowling For Columbine", but the singer does it on another way: he does it with a song.
It's the question: Are Americans crazy for guns?
Watch Bowling For Columbine and listen to this song afterwards if you can't see the picture.
Texas is the problem, not America.
And doesn't George W. Bush come from Texas?!
Texas is evil. And this songs shows how evil it can get.
Maybe we should do like in the song: kill Mr. Bush and blow up Texas and all the f**kin oil companies who try to rule the world. That would make the world and America a better place.
That's why I put this song in this forum, because YOU guys are the problem. It's not America. It's YOU! And I want YOU to look in the f**kin' mirror, because I know exactly that YOU don't like to see it. And THIS drives me.
Michael Moore already tried to do it. But there are more Michael Moores out there. And I'm one of them.
Oh and besides...
this song also critizises all the f**kin' people who think that school shootings and violent kids are the product of violent movies and violent video games.
It's not. America is violent, because every sick child can buy a weapon at every corner in America. That are the american weapon laws/rights.
And THAT's exactly what he's singing about. So don't tell me this song has no message and is not actual.
It's is f**kin' actual and political!!!!

Theres an ignore feature on here?
This song was released before Bush was even governor of Texas.
Also, this is what the band said about the song in an interview:
MCR - I'm really unsure as to how political of a person you are, Don, but is it odd to look back and realize that a track like "I Blew Up the United States" went pretty much under the radar of pop culture 14 years ago, when nowadays it would basically be the starting point of your own personal CIA file?
Don Was - That song is a source of controversy within the band this week. Some of the cats think that it will be misunderstood by ticket buyers. Of course, The lyric advocates an end to arms proliferation – particularly among maniacs hiding behind their constitutional right to bear weapons of mass destruction. It doesn’t suggest that we blow everybody up. I’m willing to bet that the elite hipsters who comprise the Was (Not Was) audience will inherently understand the difference. So we’re gonna play the song every night.

We don't have to fight the power. The power works for us. We aren't on any side. We are manipulating the people and watching the reactions. Welcome to our plan.
It's so funny. George W. Bush removed the Taliban from power. He removed Saddam Hussein from power. In other words: America did the job for us. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
But that doesn't mean that America isn't a target, too. Your end will also come... but not now. We still need you. And we will remove George W. Bush once we don't need him anymore. We will do the same to all the European leaders, too.
You shouldn't be afraid of terrorists. You should be afraid of us. We are EVERYWHERE, even in America. We are no conventional enemy. We don't fight. We let others fight for us.
You really believe that it wasn't our plan that Bush got re-elected?! HAW!
America's reputation becomes badder and badder that way. More and more people are starting to hate America. For example: Europe. Whereever I go, I hear people laughing about America and making hateful jokes about you, in their homes and when they talk among friends.
People do exactly what we want them to do. We love it when our plan comes together. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Just so you know how far we already have manipulated everyone.
It's just a matter of time when the next attack on America will start. To be honest, we don't exactly know what kind of attack that will be and when extactly it will happen. But we know that someone will attack America again and we will manipulate as much as possible so that this event happens for sure. But we aren't directly involved. You cannot prove anything.

Ignorance only works against the ones who want attention. But we don't want attention. We're just watching your reactions... and ignorance is a reaction, too. So no matter what you do, we manipulated you in the one or other way.

Mr. Milton
03-18-2005, 12:07 PM
Only Germany stopped attacking countries many years ago. That was a nice change...
Cut from President's Press Conference, March 16, 2005:
...
Q Mr. President, do you also think it will lead to America's reputation being restored? Earlier this week you brought Karen Hughes back at ambassador rank to address the question of antipathy to America around the world --
THE PRESIDENT: Yes.
Q -- particularly the Muslim world. What does that entail?
THE PRESIDENT: Well, it entails a couple of things, Carl. It entails people understanding why we do things we do. You know, for example, there was -- I think we had the image of wanting to fight Muslims -- the United States stood squarely against a religion, as opposed to a society which welcomes all religions. And, in fact, we're fighting a handful of people relative to the Muslim population that wanted to -- I used to say -- hijack the religion.
People need to understand we're a compassionate nation and we care deeply about suffering, regardless of where people live. And the -- you know, President Clinton and President Bush 41 did a fine job of helping the world see the great compassion of America when they went on the -- went on their trips in the areas ravaged by the tsunamis.
It is very important for us to have a message that counteracts some of the messages coming out of some of the Arab media -- some of it coming out, partly, because of our strong and unwavering friendship with Israel. You know, Israel is an easy target for some of the media in the Middle East, and if you're a friend of Israel, you become a target. And since we're not going to abandon our alliance with Israel, there's a -- there was some churning in the press, and there was some unhelpful things being said. And so part of that is to make sure people understand the truth. And that is, in this particular issue, you bet we're going to stand by Israel. But we also believe the Palestinians have the capability of self-governance in a truly democratic state that will live side-by-side with the Israelis in peace.
And so Karen is going -- one, I want to thank her for coming back from Austin. It's very hard, if you're a Texan, to abandon Austin for anywhere else, and -- or Texas for anywhere else. Secondly, I applaud Secretary Rice's decision to include Karen in the process. I thought that was very wise of her to call upon Karen's talents. And Dina Powell, from my office, an Egyptian American, is also going over, leaving the White House compound to work with Karen, because she believes deeply in the American experience, in American values, and wants to share those values with people around the world.
And, you know, I think when people also see, Carl, that we do what we say we're going to do -- for example, that we helped feed the hungry and that we believe all folks should be free and that women should have an equal say in society. I think when people see we actually mean that, and then when it comes to fruition, it will help people around the world better understand our good hearts and good nature.

I find it interesting that George W. Bush explains where the antipathy and hate for America originally comes from.
It's true.
Some nations, especially the muslim ones, don't like it that America works with Israel, because to them Israel is evil.
And personally, I have also read and heard about Israel doing evil things to the Palestinians, although I don't know much about and don't care about Israel. But since we live in a world of propaganda you never know who to believe.
I hope you understand, after reading George W. Bush's speech "War On Terror" (http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/03/20050308-3.html) that we Europeans are allies of the United States. However, propaganda is everywhere, even in America! So you should always be careful who to trust and who not.
However, I think George W. Bush makes a good impression this month. He seems to make progress. I really liked his recent speeches, although I'm no friend of the Republican politics. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
No to same-sex marriage, yes to death penalty... you seem I cannot agree with some of Bush's and republican values.
Another link to explain the antipathy for America:
With Peace we come and peace we give but we have been stabbed by our Jewish brothers from behind.
Arabs had accepted the Jew in Palestine before the British allowed them to come History witness that Arab & Muslims were the only people who respected the Jew and protected them we all know what the European & Christians did to the Jew in Jerusalem, Germany and Spain. We all know that Jew did run to Turkey the Islamic Ottoman Empire for protection and that how they got into Palestine and started their wicked plan and twisted the fact they came as poor immigrants and they became the leaders the same happened in Germany and now in USA History repeats itself what happen in Germany could happen in USA. So our advise to the Jewish people ..do not let your politician destroy your future...look for peace with Arabs and Muslims and you will find it..respect the Palestinians right to exist and give them full rights...give them back their lands....give then an identity ...give them a country...Their will be no peace ...until you accept the rights of others and stop the atrocities committed by the Israeli Army...Israel can not be strong for ever...History teaches us a lesson. Empires rise and Empires fall......
The following opinion was obtained from Mr. Edward , and we feel it is worth reading , since it illustrate the Political ignorance of Israeli, US , European and Arab leaders, also it demonstrate the corruption of Yasser Arafat , who is welling to accept and deal with Israel:
...
Source:
http://www.desert-voice.net/isreal_&_palestine.htm
Interesting read. But be warned! It may be propaganda.
With his own corrupt and stupidly repressive regime supported both by Israel's Mossad and the CIA, Yasser Arafat continued to rely on US mediation, even though the US peace team was dominated by former Israeli lobby officials and a president whose ideas about the Middle East were those of a Christian fundamentalist Zionist with no exposure to or understanding of the Arab-Islamic world. Compliant, but isolated and unpopular Arab chiefs (especially Egypt's President Mubarak) were compelled humiliatingly to toe the American line, thereby further diminishing their eroded credibility at home. Israel's priorities were always put first, as was its bottomless insecurity and its preposterous demands. No attempt was made to address the fundamental injustice done when Palestinians as a people were dispossessed in 1948.
Aha! There it is, why the terrorists hate America!
You see, I believe Israel is the real target of the terrorists. And America is just someone who is the middle of two religious factions - Israelis (Jews) and Palestinians (Muslims) - fighting each other.
It's a religious conflict here! And Bush knows about that, too.
