This movie looks really good. The trailer from the website shows that this film will be done in a comic book/film noir stye. (Just like Max Payne, me hopes for a refrence!) Bruce Willis plays the dectective. And all the women in this movie (or 3 movies, because it has 3 stories told pulp fiction/comic book style) are goregous, especally Jessica Alba who plays Nancy; a stripper! (whos life is in danger...) http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/love.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/love.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/love.gif

I'm a comic book fan, but I admit I've never read Sin City. Well, I guess my comic book buying was really regulated to the early 90's during the X-Men's hayday.
I'll see this movie.

She's not going to be topless in the movie http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif, she has a no nudity clause in her contract. Her character is topless in all but a few scenes in the books, so I guess they just hired her based on her dancing abilities. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hhg.gif
I really cannot wait for this movie, I'm a huge fan of the books! Should be great with Frank Miller co-directing.

Yes there is no nudity by that jessica chick, who doens't do much for me anyway so I don't care :P There's still plenty of nudity to go around. The CGI bra is apparently the scene of the girls in the bedroom holding the gun. It's short shot anyway.

What I don't get is why they would want that Tarantino guy to be a "guest director". Theres two directors already, so why let that tit suck up all the credit?

It's just some fun between them all. Quentin directed one scene for $1 in Sin City. Robert composed one song for kill bill for $1.

Well I hope they are having fun in their world of easy money and schmoozing, stupid "hip" hollywood director troll faced man. Quite frankly im sick of tarentino, he gets his face put on anything in order to sell it, what did he have to do with HERO? He PRESENTS it? So the american publics to stupid to take it in without needing some shmoozing hollywood jackass to "present" it to them?
Paroxysm
03-08-2005, 10:59 PM
Well on the Hero example you'll find that it's studio. Quentin tried to get the film released in the states, part of the deal with the studios would have been the attachment of his name to help advertise the film. Distribution is all about attachments. So it's not his ego at all, it's simply the studios using the marketability of his name. If he didn't allow his name to be attached it's possible the film would not have been released.
And easy money? ummm ok I don't see that. I'm not a great fan of Quentin but keeping afloat in the film industry is not easy. These two have more security with their film making now because of what they've already achieved. It doesn't mean that their jobs have become easy.

I can't wait to see this movie. I've been waiting for this since I first heard about it. I even bought the 3 books the movie is based off of. As soon as I saw the trailer was so interested in it I wanted to know how good the graphic novels were, so I got "The hard Goodbye" and loved it, then got "That Yellow Bastard" and liked it, but not as much as THG, but my favorite was "The Big Fat Kill" so far. I am looking for the second print of book 2 right now, but no one seems to be carrying it.

As most of you know, I am majorly geeked for this effing movie. I've been a fan of Sin City since it first went to print, and its really the only comic I still read. I've been avoiding the trailer because I don't want any of it spoiled for me, but at a showing of constantine they ran the ad. I'm about twice as giddy now, I don't think i've ever been this phsyched for a game/movie/anything, I really cannot wait. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/love.gif \o/ \o/ \o/ http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/love.gif

Mongorian, I would say you have to see the comic-con footage. It shows the movie footage and parts of the comic to show how much the movie resembles the comic. I have it if you want, I can try and send it to you. It is really cool, but does have the entire opening of the movie (no, not the opening of "The Hard Goodbye" with Marv and Goldie). It is a short story from BB&B. It is really quite awesome, and really sets the mood for the movie. The only problem is, the comic-con footage can be really spoiling if you see it.
I can't even describe how excited I am for this movie.

It kept reminding me of Max Payne, the metaphor and imagery rich narration, the distinct style, the plot elements and the like.

It's honestly among the top 5 best movies I've EVER seen. The cinematography (did I spell that right? Is it even a word??) is AMAZING. It actually feels like you watching a comic book.

Evidently all the backgrounds were inserted after the actors were filmed, a la Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. Therefore most of what you seen onscreen wasn't even 'filmed', per se.

to compare Sky Cap'n to Sin City is to compare weeks old Jello with Flan. or a Mc Burger with a 3 Inch Steak.
Alot of the time you couldnt even tell what was "Real" and what wasnt.

I'm comparing the technology to make the films, not the films themselves. They are similar in that they are both mostly computer-generated. I agree that Sin City is the much better film.

Here's some DVD info from Rodriguez:
"We shot the full stories of the books," Rodriguez says. "And I knew we could truncate it down, we weren't going to lose any scenes. Eventually they would all be available for people to see. The DVD will come out with the theatrical cut, and then there will be a separate disc that's got the individual episodes separate with their own title card and you could just watch The Big Fat Kill from beginning to end in its full cut as a single story and then switch over and watch The Yellow Bastard, and that's 45 minutes. It will have all the material back in, so it will be like the experience of picking up the books where you pick up one story and you read it from beginning to end and it will have all the material in it. So you can kind of shuffle your own version of the movie and just watch them all separately."
The stories will feature additional scenes that will be familiar to fans of the graphic novels. "There were some things we had cut out from [Yellow Bastard] just to pace it for a feature because they weren't supposed to be three stories put together when he first wrote them, they were all separate books. So [there were] things to sort of pace it for a feature and keep it on a through line… Mickey Rourke doesn't go visit his mom now like he did in the book and get his gun, but we shot all that and it's all great stuff. It just wasn't necessary for the feature. You wanted to be more direct in that. It's not gonna feel like, when you watch that separate disc with this material back in like, 'Oh, I can see why that was cut.' They are really terrific scenes, action scenes, a lot of stuff that people will find. I think it's going to be somewhat revolutionary to see those scenes that were cut out [to] be put back in another format, because they seem perfectly fine and they work, they just needed to be taken out for the long haul of a feature."
Rodriguez says that planning for this feature ahead of time gave them an extra freedom during production. "It really gives it another life and another experience more akin to reading the books by doing that. That's what made it easier for us to say, 'Lets just shoot everything, prepare all the effects, and then if we edit stuff out, we're not really cutting it out and people are never going to see it. They'll be able to see it in a purer form in a different format."
The separate stories will be available together with the theatrical feature in one set. "Yes, in a package and then I'm gonna have another 10 minute, it'll be a 20 minute film school probably for this one because there's so many things. And I'll have another 10 minute cooking school. It will be Sin City breakfast tacos. (Laughs) We'll show you how to make a homemade flour tortilla and the best meal you can probably ever learn."

Also read a faggy review in the newspaper where some guy complained that the women in the movie "existed only for target practice" or some stuff like that, and suggested the reason for the movie being black and white was that it was the only way it could pass censors with all the violence in the movie. I thought it was cool that Kevin turned out to be the kind of character he was, I hadn't read the books. I always thought that he'd be good in a role of playing a nutcase.
Another thing I liked about it was the way they did the three stories. After a character would die, you'd see them pop up again in one of the other stories. Only really for a second, but after having them get killed it was cool seeing them one last time.
Also Frank Miller did a good job with the little part he had too. Nice exit as well.
If the details on the DVD end up being true I think I'll probably get it for sure.

I just got back from seeing this at a 7pm showing, and I agree that this movie kicked ass! I was worried that the over use of computer graphics combined with black and white (well, it wasn't really all black and white, but you know what I mean) would really kill this movie for me, but no, it all came together really well. This movie is like eye candy all the way through, and the plot/ characters/ everything else matched up to the visuals as far as I'm concerned. Robert Rodriguez did an excellent job.
I liked how it was split up into three stories, and that they were all inter connected to each other but rearranged at different times, so you could see character that died earlier on in the movie show up again later on. And yeah, the story with Mickey Rourke was definitely the best of the three (even though the other two were great as well), Elijah Wood made one evil ass villain. I also loved the over the top violence that this movie had.
Haven't seen or read the comic book before seeing this movie, so I can't make any comments or comparisons, but I will say that this is the best movie I've seen so far this year.

I would have much preferred to have the Marv story stretched to feature length. I think the current anthology approach weakened each individual story by making them too short, and weakened the film as whole by making it feel too long as it tried to cram three different stories together.
Perhaps I will enjoy this rumored DVD where the stories are self contained and expanded.

I thought it was unified enough. About the same story for all 3 people. A lot of the main characters knew others from the other stories as well. Two of the stories were about getting back at the corrupt Roark family. The third was just about corrupt people in general. It was kind of like three separate fights in one larger battle.

thats not unified at all, was hoping more of as tightly unified plot with some really nice twist at the end but no. Felt kinda empty to me. But that doesn't mean the movie is bad, means the story of the comic books weren't really all that and that the movie succesfully captured the essence of the comics.
Still on of the best looking movies i'v seen.
