I watched the fourth trailer recently and even though I don't know what is beeing said I am just mezmurized at the sheer scope of this film. Any doubts I have had are slowly fading away. It looks like it will not only be a worthy sequel to the game but a great achievement in cinamatic history just as Final Fantasy Spirits Within was. I hope that this is released soon so I can add it to my DVD collection.
Check out the trailers at:

wow, you're the first person I've heard say that about Spirits Within. Everyone I talk to hated that movie. I thought it could be better, but the CG was beautiful. As for this, I am pretty excited about it. I just hope it isn't 90 minutes like I have been hearing... That would be kinda lame if it is. I just don't see how they can fit such a massive story into 90 minutes.
As for the fourth trailer, I think it is the worst one. Sure Sephiroth at the end is cool, but it was a bunch of stuff already shown, but edited really badly.

That looks amazing to me.
I thought it was only going to be for PSP in the UMD format though. Is it going to be on DVD? Is it going to be in english?

It will be released for the PSP and DVD.

<----Looking forward to it obviously, by my avatar.
Really because I liked the game. I played it in 1997 or whatever it was when it came out. I want it to be cool, but I have a feeling it will just end up being awkward and stuff. Final Fantasy stuff kind of went downhill after the 7th one. It went from playing adults to playing whiny teenagers. The girls got made up like whores and the guys look like hermaphrodites half the time. They fixed it some in 10 but it was still whiny people and the ***** the gameplay to be too goddamn easy. For example it being pretty much impossible to lose the last fight. The final battle went from a long hard challenging fight to easy crap since anytime one of your people die they got brought back to life instantly..
I gave up when I saw a commercial for a sequel to 10 and it had some bitch singing kareoke. I think Final Fantasy stuff was fun until they decided to make it all Japanese and stuff. I'm just worried it will be like watching MGS2, with too much damn talking, unrealistic fighting crap and lame overacting, with swinging arms and shit.

Overacting is so typical of japanese movies. I gave up on otaku movies because it's ***** pathetic..

Ever since enix joined square FF has been looking so feminin. This movie however does not look girly but kick assingly awesome.

I just hope it won't suck like Spirits Within. But I'm pretty sure it's going to be awesome because, this time, it has something to do with Final Fantasy.

I actually didn't think Spirits Within was all that bad. I only saw it once in the theater though. It was kind of shotty and wasn't a great movie, but I've seen worse.
AlienAssKicker
03-12-2005, 03:13 PM
Of course there's worse. But for what it was suppose to be, it sucked. It did not deserve the Final Fantasy title. Twas but a shameful travesty of Final Fantasy.
For crying out loud, they didn't even have a single Spell, Sword, Summon or Chocobo! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tinyted.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tinyted.gif

hehe, all right. For starters, FF was always "Japanese and stuff". FF7 was very much going with the cyberpunk anime vibe that was very popular in the 90s. FF7 plays out like numerous sci-fi anime epics. FF is a Japanese sensation, and thats how it'll be for years to come. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Also, coincidentally, MGS2 is one of my favorite games. So it just adds to the wackyness that you happened to insult it. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It's being delayed I think. And as long as it has the original Japanese acting with subs, I'm going to get it. If it comes only dubbed (highly unlikely) well, http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif.

I missed this thread (thanks for reviving it) one thing I want to make clear to the anti-ff movie critics is this: FF:Spirits within had just as much in common with Final Fantasy as any Final Fantasy game. Why you say? Well...because they don't friggen continue and not one of them shares anything beyond some rpg elements and similar magic spells.
Look closer.....they had the life-stream of FF7 and the idea of people becoming beasts/fiends from FFX (which ironically came after the movie) they also had a storyline which could have come right out of FF7. Say what you will but to me FF has no continuity and therefore that movie did nothing wrong.
As for the new movie it looks really great! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif I just hope they don't stoop to saying "Oh seph didn't die!" and actually come up with a good story. I expect it to leave FF7's story alone...and simply add a "What happened afterwards?" type of thing.

After they said it was going to be released on Sept. 13 in the US I was really excited. Now it's delayed again until Nov. 1 and now I have lost all interest in this movie. I'll see it when it comes out, but I'm no longer excited and won't go out of my way to see it.
Another thing, I looked at the Japanese special features and they got some really crappy junk on there. A FF7 documentary (30 minues) and the trailers... thats pretty lame.
Since they are pushing back the release for the US we better get some cool stuff on there. I am afraid we won't. I am also afraid it will cost 30 dollars like every other anime. If that is the case, then screw this movie.

The first few minutes of the film tell the backstory just in case you haven't played the game or haven't played it in a long time.

Agreed. Midi music is terrible, and there are some speed issues that simply aren't worth the time to fix. Higher resolutions are nice but aren't worth the rest of the trouble. Besides with emulators these days (ePSXe) you can make it look better than the PC version with certain filters etc.

Oh, I'm sorry. I guess instead of making it "too japanese" what I should have said was it was all good until they started making it extremely faggy and awkward.
The main male characters at some point became useless shemale pansies that make the girl characters look tough. Not to say characters shouldn't have their weaknesses, but that was the only real problem I had with the Cloud character in Final Fantasy 7. All his bullshit stemmed from the fact that when he was a kid, some of the other kids were mean to him.
Although maybe the Japanese males that play them want to see something they can relate to.

Well there was that whole spiel the other day about how the male chromosome will have gone completely FUBAR in 10,000 years or something.
But cloud had other issues than just being bullied. Like GENOVA. And fun stuff.
Still I look forward to this movie.
Spirit Within looked awesome (though it did have a sucky story, while I agree that the premise was very FF, I believe the execution of the story was not very FF and therefore teh suck).
Last Flight of the Osiris (made by the same people) was incredible.
Advent Children looks like they have sacrificed some realism to maintain the feel of the original characters (but there is nothing wrong with that), but the environments look great.
I look forward to it.

I can see what you're saying LB, the main character in FF12 looks pretty frightening to everyone I've shown the trailers http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
But I've got to say, Cloud is one of my favorite characters, and its wierd to say kids being mean to him caused all his problems. All that influenced was him not having the guts to talk to Tifa back then, which is nice and I'd assume most people can relate. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Shinra, now they caused all of his problems.

I just think that whole "inside his head" part of the game railroaded the story. I wanted to punch my TV a bunch of times while playing FFX. Its like theres a Japanese version of MTV that took control of the design of the games. Basically after FFX and FF:Online I've lost what little interest I had in playing future FF games despite playing them since FF2 came out on the SNES when I was 8. (yes I know its actually FF4, bite me)
People say the trailer to this thing looks cool, but its all just little cuts of action scenes. I'm guessing the real thing is going to be a bunch of people standing around talking to no end, and a few parts with people whining about personal problems, and the ending will probably be thrown together in 5 minutes.
Then if we are really unlucky they'll have the charactrers making really retarded hand gestures while they talk like they did in MSG2, where they're swinging their arm out to the side.

I didn't like the style they chose for FFX, the story could have been great...if I wasn't so sickened by the baby they made you play as (Tidus). I've seen X2 and it basically killed any remaining qualities I liked in Final Fantasy. I hear 12 is being made by the guys who did tactics? Thats an auto-no no....because tactics isn't my cup of tea.
As for the PS3, thats assuming I ever get it. I'm PC oriented now...since the last 3 consoles haven't kept my attention for more than a game or two. If there is ever a demo for a PC version I might look at it....who knows.

Final Fantasy VII was the first Final Fantasy game I ever played. It was a great experience. It was the first game to ever make me care about the characters. When I heard about this movie I was pretty excited. I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen. Then I heard it was only 80 minutes, and was kind of bummed out about that. Then I heard they added on an extra 30. Little did I know that about fifteen of those thirty minutes was going to be the credits. In a way, the movie was a let down and in a way I also really enjoyed it.
I was really disappointed at the lack of story. The whole movie felt like it was an excuse to create some really stylish fight scenes. The editing and directing wasn't all that great either. There needed to be about another hour or so. Not 95 minutes of fighting.
The movie was filled with awkward cuts. Terrible camera-work that tried to be stylish. Even sprinkles of cheeseball anime camera work. The place this movie really suffers is with the characters. The movie was called "Advent Children" but the children in the movie are only there for about five to ten minutes. There was no connecton with the kids. They even introduced a new character, Denzel, and for what reason? I don't know. I would've also liked to see what the other characters were doing before all this went down. A little more story on Kadaj and gang would've been nice too. They just kind of randomly showed up. They could've easily fit atleast another hour in there. Over all it needed more story.
That is what I wanted. Now for what I got, I was actually quite happy.
The action was INSANE. I loved it. Fast paced, and intense. That's what I wanted, that is what I got. As an action movie, this movie really succeeds. The little bit of story that was in there was pretty decent. The acting was also what I really enjoyed. There was a lot of emotion in the movie. Everytime Kadaj and Cloud were on screen it packed a lot of energy. The voice actors did really good at bringing these characters to life.
The animation was some of the best I have seen. Visually, it's about as good as a Pixar movie. I'd like to see more movies from these guys. They're kind of like a more adult version of Pixar. The visuals were outstanding! I loved the art direction as well.
The sound is where the movie is second best at. As I said, the voice-acting was great. Not just that though, when the swords hit, they hit with a punch. There were some great sound effects in the movie. I also really liked how they redid a lot of the music. Watch this movie with surround sound.
Overall, it is quite an enjoyable movie. It is really really intense, the characters are more human thanks to the folks at square for their design, and the great voice-acting. One of the best musical scores you can get. I had a lot of fun watching it. tThat is what I mainly I wanted, and that is what I got. I'll be picking this up for sure. Well, unless there are no special features and the price is like 30 dollars, then no I won't pick it up.
Pros:
- GREAT Visuals
- Great Voice acting
- Awesome sound
- Decent story for an action movie
- Amazing action
Cons:
- Lacking character development and overall story
- Poor camera work
- Awkward cutting and editing
I think if you are looking for more story than action, it'll be a disappointment.
The story that is in there is decent and the fight sequences really beef up the overall movie. If you are looking for something with about an equal amount of story and action, you might and might not be disappointed.
If you want an action movie, then this is it. This is probably the best you can get when it comes to action movies.

Damn, I have to wait for it to come out! Can't find it anywhere.
I'd buy it even if I saw it anyways. I hate waiting.

Well the moive reminded me more of an RPG. THe transitions were poor like the ones between some cutscenes that come out of no where.
Overall: 9/10
Fan Sub: 9/10
Sub: 10/10 (estimate)

I absolutely LOVED this movie.
I found everything about it to be superb: the animation, fight sequences, the soundtrack, the story...everything. The action sequences especially are nothing short of breathtaking. And there are a few quirky moments that fans of the original game will just lap up. (mobile ring tone anyone? http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif )
Very true to the original source material....or should I say materia? http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Will definately be buying this on DVD when it comes out.
Did anyone of you see FFVII: Last Order as well?
It's basically the backstory before FFVII.. mainly focuses on Zack.
Again that wasn't too bad but it was way too short. It's an anime.

I just watched FF7: AC again today, made me like it a lot more. Great movie and its funny how Cloud, Tifa, Kadaj, Rude, Reno, Marlene, and Vincent and maybe Rufus get the most screen time. It's basically "Screw you Barret, Cid, Yuffie, Red XIII and Cait Sith."
Kindy sucks for Square(soft) making Vincent a secret character. As Square Enix, if they remake FF7, the must make Vincent and Yuffie REQUIRED main characters. It takes out too much of the story. Vincent has a huge role in FF7 and FF7: AC so if you don't get Vincent, screwed story don't you think?

I've watched Advent Children twice, it is amazing! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I'd say for what it is, an action movie for fans who love the FF7 characters, it suceeds on all levels. Of course, when we were watching it as a group a couple non-FF players left in the middle. I think the movie won't really work if you don't know or care about Cloud, Tifa, etc.
The final fight is one of the most epic encounters in cinematic history, the soundtrack with mostly FF7 tracks is superb, and they definitely pack more storytelling and character into 90 minutes than I'd ever imagine.
Of course, as a sequal to the epic FF7, it could have been much longer and had more character development. I would have liked more on Tifa and Cloud's relationship. But all and all, its just a fantastic film. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
And I did see the FF7: Last Order anime, it is pretty cool. Its pretty much just the Zack and Sephiroth flashbacks, only animated. It ends a bit too soon, bus its nice to see.

No way! Fighting should be like good westerns and samurai films. 99% standing and then 1 second of action.
Seven Samurai being a perfect example on how fighting should be. (Yojimbo and Sanjuro too)

Aside from the fighting scenes it was like a sappy family reunion. Especially the last two minutes of the movie.
If you are a slobbery fan to the point that you get off on just the fact that they made a sequel and you get to see the characters do something new then its probably one of the best things ever made, and why people would blow their load on it and say things about it having the most epic fight in cinematic history or other stuff like that. I'm not an expert on cinema or anything, but the most recent movie to be out to have a more epic fight only be the third matrix movie given that theres a lot more than two people fighting, and it still has lasers, guns and flying.
In the end its about what I figured it would be. The main characters personal problems, and trying to make everyones favorite character look like a badass at least once to minimize the amount of complaints about the whole mess.
I thought it was ok, had a few funny parts, but it didn't have much of a story beyond "oh shit theres more stuff to kill!". Its like any chance at a story got watered way down and lost by them trying to include every last character. Which is kind of funny since there is a character coming back partially in the form of water.

Hrm. I loved it personally. A few things that bothered me were the lack of actually seeing everyone else in action.
<table><tr><th><font size="-1">Spoiler below:</font></th></tr><tr><td class="spoiler">
The fact that the sepiroth fight was about 5 minutes, and ended in such a crappy way really dissapointed me! Was still a good fight scene. Another thing was the lack of use of Materia and Summons, yes we saw Bahamut, but what about Ifrit, Odin etc.. Would have been nice to see more magic on that part. Also bothered me that the whole story took place in Midgard and The Ancient City. I would have loved to seen Wutai, Golden Saucer and all these lovely places Ive come to remember!
</td></tr></table>
Ive prolly watched it about 4 times now and everytime I still get all bubbly over it! Im a huge FF7 Fan, I still have my PS and FF7 sittin w/ my TV. The fight scenes were done very nicely as well!

Now I'm just waiting for:
Final Fantasy 6-2/6: the Movie.
BTW Last Order was too short, it ended before it began. I loved the art.

I could do without the stupid scene where everyone boosts cloud and it'd have been nice if hitting things with giant weapons showed the slightest ammount of damage at all.

I love every bit of this movie. I wish it were longer and kept us in the character's everyday world a bit longer. I also wish they threw a few more tricks when fighting on the bikes for variety. I loved Reno in this.
Anyone know if the English dvd will also feature the Jap audio with English subs?
