View Full Version : Winamp and audio CDs...

Windows Media Player has an option that says "Play audio CD" so it'll play whichever CD you point it to if it has an audio track. I'd like to know if you can do that with Winamp (I've got 5.06) because the CD I want to listen also has a data track and Winamp can't see anything but that. If I use "play folder" or "play file", it sees the CD as data only and not audio.

I think Winamp has to see the .cda files in Windows.
You're better off with WMP. WMP supports digital playback of audio cds, dunno if Winamp does it.

I don't think Winamp can recognize a mixed mode CD that has both data and music (I could be wrong about that, though).
You can use a program like CDex (which CAN recognize mixed-mode CDs and rip the tracks first).

the reason why I use winamp is because it starts fast on classic skin on my p2 and you can do "enqueue in winamp" in explorer.
and because I like the audiophile skin for my fast computer.
but I miss my netscape winamp, that was great skin and it started up FAST.
the netscape skins that I find in the winamp.com database aren't the same as I had before http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

And in what way does this relate to the topic, Cerberus_e?

Go to the Winamp menu and say "Play Audio CD X:" where X is your drive. This works. Selecting the folder itself, does not.

Thanks, that's nice to know. I don't play back audio CDs any more. I just rip to ogg vorbis and play them in foobar2000. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Go to Winamp's main menu. There should be an option "Play" that expands into another menu. A choice there should be "Audio CD". Try that.
Sorry if I was too vague before.

No such option whatsoever.

Actually, the problem is that the modern skin's "play" menu (from across the top) doesn't have that. However, if you right click on the skin and choose play, THEN you get that option. Very awkward design choice, but I've been using it so long that it doesn't bother me now.

Jebus, what a horrible design decision. I could have spent days not finding it. Well, anyway, NOW it finally works. Thanks.

Go to Media Library, then choose the CD/DVD Drive.

The media library cannot see that it's an audio CD. It only sees the data track.

It didn't for me too. I had it a while back, and just unistalled it because of that, I couldn't find how to play my CDs properly.

Just tried it out.
It works.
Open Media Library, then go to Devices, then choose the drive.
Or right click the Playlist, highlight play, then choose the drive.

I think the important thing to note here is that Simon already has a solution. There's no point in arguing whether something else works or not.

True, but don't you find it odd that it works for me, but not for him?

you did try mixed cd`s right? first track data ,then cd audio ( like the dn3d atomic cd for example, or quake2? )

Yes I did.
I used my Linkin Park Re-Animation and Meteora CDs.
Those always play the program when you tell them to play, or just run when you put them in.

what order are the data and cd tracks in, cd tracks first then date ( most likely since its an audio cd with a few extra`s i gues ) or data first then music, its most easy to tell by flippin it into a regular cd player and listen to track 1, if it works normally then its cd audio first data last. if you get all garbled sound or no sound at all, its data first cd audio last.
makes a lot of difference http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
[edit]wel, both iron maidens seventh son of a seventh son and quake 2 work ust fine so it cant be the data track http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
