This game is getting some glowing reviews so far. I never even heard of it while it was in development. The IGN (http://ps2.ign.com/articles/596/596778p1.html) reviewer practically jizzes in his pants, giving it a 9.8, and so far it's got a cumulative 97.5 at Gamerankings (http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/919864.asp). PS2 exclusive (for now) as well. May have to check this one out.

Wow, I just watched the video review of this game at IGN and the environments look absolutely stunning. If the 5 minutes of footage in the review is any indication, this thing is at the very least a visual masterpiece.
Yeah Gamespot's Live show "On the Spot" had a interview with the guy in charge of this game "David Jaffe", he was the guy behind most of the Twisted Metal games as well.
From what I saw of it there it looked really good. I'll have to check out the video review at GS in abit.

Wow is it already released?
I remember seeing an article about it in GameInformer a few months ago, seemed pretty cool.
Gotta check it out.

This game is on fire, and I only just heard about it from the Ninja Gaiden forum on gamefaqs. Geeze, 9.8 from IGN. It's on my To Buy List now.

I got one from a friend of mine that worked at gamecrazy. You're supposed to get one if you preorder the game.

Minor spoilers:
Picked this up last night. Had a major headache so I didn't play much, but after going through the first couple of sections this game looks fabulous so far. I've played about a half hour, and already I've had a couple of those "oh wow, that's so cool that they put that in there" moments. I fought two heads of a hydra, and countless evil minions. They waste almost no time dumping you into the action. You immediately find yourself on the deck of a sinking ship (that the hydra has pretty much demolished) with a half dozen bad guys surrounding you.
The combat is pretty easy, and I have only really been close to death once when fighting the second head of the hydra (I managed to come back and kill it). I was basically button-mashing at the beginning and still kicking ass, but have started to figure out some of the combos. So far I don't think it's going to be particularly challenging on the default difficulty setting, but as the reviewers have said, you aren't generally going to care because ripping your enemies to shreds is just so satisfying. My favourite move so far is picking the guys up and literally ripping them in half with my bare hands. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
There's also a part where you end up climbing the netting attached to the mast of the ship, heading upwards. Bad guys are crawling down from the top of the mast to meet you, and you battle them while hanging on for dear life. You can smack them with your blades, or simply grab them and toss them off the netting, causing them to plunge to their doom.
I just met the first god in the game (can't remember which one), and he gave me a magical power that when activated generates what appears to be a ring of electricity all around me and fries anyone in the general area. Great for when you're being overwhelmed by swarms of bad guys.
There are a TON of unlockables listed in the menu. Lots of extra stuff for those willing to work for it.
All of this in the first half hour. Kratos is one mean mf. I think this game is destined to be a classic. I'll post more later.

Just finished one of the coolest boss battles I've seen in a very long time, battling the 3 heads of the Hydra. Awesome. Epic stuff. This game is not shy about the blood, especially in the cutscenes. Lots of hacking and slashing.
Kratos is ruthless, and also scores with the babes. After the first boss battle they show him relaxing with a couple naked babes in bed. Cut back to the action, and when you move up to the bed they beg you to stay. He replies, "We're done here. Get your stuff and get out." The character to this point reminds me very much of the old Conan The Barbarian comics, when they were at their nastiest and raunchiest. Fun stuff.
Anyone who owns a PS2 and has any interest in action games should definitely pick this up.

Got this game yesterday, and man it is awesome.
I have actually stopped playing WoW for this game, stopped playing WoW!!!!!
To anyone who plays WoW you should understand how much fun this game is to make me take a break from crack... I mean WoW.
I also thought the Hydra battle was badass, luckily I didn't save over the save right before the Hydra, so I can play it as much as I want.
I'm at Pandora's Temple now, and I keep having more and more fun.
Got a 160 something hit combo at this one part in Pandora's Temple... talk about satisfying lol.

9.3 wtf. I played a demo of it a few months back and it sucked total balls. It must have been chopped way down, outdated or something.

I don't know what was in the demo, but I can't imagine anyone who likes action games with a lot of bone-crunching, flesh tearing melee combat not liking this game. It's sweet.

Ya, not a game you'll want your 8 year old playing. There is a mini-game where you pleasure a couple of "wenches" to gain power. You hop up on the bed the two girls are laying on, press a button to start the mini-game, and then the camera slides to the right to a nightstand with a lamp seated on it. You're presented with a bunch of controller moves you have to make, one at a time, and each time you're successful you hear the girls moan or scream with pleasure and see the nightstand and lamp shake. Get enough successful moves in a row and you gain a powerup.
This game has elements of GTA, Ninja Gaiden, Resident Evil 4, and a basic platformer all rolled into one.
Anyway, well-deserved "M" rating. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/thumbsup.gif
I just killed Medusa and gained her power to turn things to stone and then smash them to pieces. Reminds me of the freezer in DN3D.

cool. nice to see some more great PS2 titles.
hopefully it wont take long to come out here in Aus
I've been playing this game like crazy the past few days. Everything is awesome, especially the temple of pandora with it's unique location and wide variety of puzzles and things to kill.
I'm finally up to Ares. He is F-ing hard! But still I love the game, and it's one of the few games out for PS2 that I really enjoy.
It seems to me this game is a near perfect combination of Prince of Persia and Ninja Gaiden. Two other games I really liked. IMO, God of War is better http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I am really enjoying GoW as well, haven't really been palying it much though... WoW totally comsumes me.
Played GoW on my mom's widescreen HDTV in progressive scan mode, and wow, it was sweet.... I want an HDTV now pls ty. :P
Still in Pandora's Temple, just got past the part in Hades' Trial where you have to dodge the flaming boulders and try to open the correct door... crazy.
I am playing on normal difficulty, can't imagine playing on God mode... yikes.
I'm also playing on normal. Seriously, after dying a few times the game asks you if you want to switch to easy mode. I did just for the Ares fight... still got my ass handed to me.
I like that though. If a game doesn't piss me off it's not worth the 50 bucks IMO.

Yeah, it is cool that the game asks you to switch to easy mode. I kept dying in Pandora's Temple at the place where you get Poseidon's Trident and you have to fight two Cerebrus' along with tons of harpies. I only had like 15% life, and my last save was too far back... so I kept trying over and over, like 15 times. Finally beat it without having to switch to easy mode.
I would feel disappointed with myself for having to switch to easy mode, but that's just me.
Can't wait to see the rest of this game, but I don't want to rush it either.

i really, really, really hope they release this on the psp.
I had to see the end so I beat Ares on easy. Really good ending to this game. Wish I could say more but I don't want to spoil it.
I guess I'll somehow have to get up to and beat him on God mode to unlock the last few things... That should prove quite difficult (note the huge understatement).
