View Full Version : What did you read most recently? V. 2
Well, I believe the old thread was deleted, because I can't find it!
Simple as this: State what you've read recently (As in now, yesterday, the week before, etc.). Just say the last time you read a piece of writing.
Well, today, I got 1984 and War of the Worlds along with Phantom Dust (It's not a book.), and I haven't decided which one to start first!
Last thing I finished reading was The Da Vinci Code. It was pretty good, I really liked it, but now I am reading the first LOTR novel. I bought like 4 years ago the whole triology at once, but never got the time/guts to read throught it. Now I'm at the 3/4 of the book and I'm enjoying Tolkien's writting. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/love.gif
I'm reading a book from Dumas too, called Le Vicomte De Bragelonne 2. It's a sequel to the famous Vingt Ans Plus Tard. Who is a sequel of the first Les Trois Mousquetaires book of Dumas. I heard that after Le Vicomte de Bragelonne 3, there is another batch of 3 books, something called Louise de Lavalliere who happens to be Bragelonne's girlfriend, or wife 'till then. People say it gets worser with the sequels. I really liked the Vingt Ans Plus Tard, more than the first one actually, but I agree Bragelonne ain't perfect, but it's still good.
I really like to read. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yeah, that's what I told myself 4 years ago. I started reading the first pages of the first book..I just lost it. There was too much details and stuff..the guy was describing too much. I think that you can get used to it, and that after the beggining of the book, it gets good with the action and stuff.:)
Was Tolkien payed per page as was Dumas?
Fedora Linux FAQ. I'm not into books, but tech manuals are cool.
I read a socialist novel from the school library.
Before that I read the entire 400 page novel of "The Life and Death of Adolf Hitler", and then the "Rise of the Soviet Union".

Just finished Catch-22 for the second time. The absurd comedy makes it much more disturbing as the characters start dying off. It's a shame the movie only really nailed the comedy part and messed up the serious side.

If you liked The Da Vinci Code then you will probably also like the book I recently finished reading.

It is another murder mystery with the intrepid American Symbology professor, Robert Langdon. I actually prefer the story in this one over the story for The Da Vinci Code. The only criticism I would make is that the story follows a very similar pattern to The Da Vinci Code, which means you may find it to be too predictable.

As an ever-worried author, I read most recently what I've written myself, and wondering why editors haven't replied yet. Short answer is probably "You suck" but I'll wait for an official rejection slip to arrive to that conclusion.

Jonathan Lethem's Gun, with occasional music. Great book. It's a gritty scifi noir book with great language and a nice doze of humor. I like the way the book portraits the future as well.
Nice read.

"Confessions of an Economic Hitman"
This guy used to work for NSA/corporations and go around the world convincing 3rd world countires to take crushing loans from the world bank which they could never repay. Once they were in debt we owned them and abused them for oil and labor, the book is fascinating and it deals with a lot of global politics. If the economic hitman was to fail in convincing the government then they would send in the "jackals" to stir up revolution or perform assinations. Apparently South America is really pissed at the US over all this. Anyway, great book and I highly recommend it.

Zombie Survival Guide... (If you gotta ask by who, then you just have to read it) It's scary and funny at the same time, how serious the author takes himself... obviously it's all in good fun, but from outside looking in. It's creepy how the book is all logistics.. it's strange, I was actually agreeing with alot of the things he was explaining.

how exactly is it heavy at times?
how exactly is it heavy at times?
It just grinds a bit. So that i'm not really turning each page eagerly but more just slogging through a lot of stuff that somewhat passes me by.
Well, that's probably bad because I for one had found the original trilogy the best books ever in Dragonlance. The ones written afterwards were mediocre adventure novels.

I was going along with it until the author started talking about 'Faerie folk'. 0o That, and the convenient excuse for how they got to the US...
Still, it's serving it's purpose: making it clearer what druids actually do.
