Don't know if this is old news, but this time someone looks to be remaking the original System Shock with the Doom III engine.

Let's see how long this lasts..

Oh great, another remake, which could be well done, except it's not even using the Doom 3 engine to it's fullest potential, merely porting the original textures and slapping them on the surfaces. That is the most idiotic way to 'use' an engine. Otherwise, if they'd do it Classic Doom mod style, I might not complain.

Also, I dunno much about the SS developers - if they're still around and would condone this, it may get shutdown, which means it isn't even worth it unless the original developer supports it.

Very neat. I never got to play the full versions. Just the demos way back and I would love to play them.

To me the opportunity to play a straight System Shock port on a current OS is ideal, provided that a healthy framerate is maintained.
It would be awful to see such a visually unique game crippled by a dull look like that of DooM III.

EA will probably be the one to shut it down, since they own the copyrights to System shock unfortunatly..

been there done that

ss2 port for doom3 was killed even though irrational gave a 'go' to do it. EA shut it down - normal legal action stuff. Same will happen to this, best bet for a systemshockish stuff for doom3 is with www.sapphirescar.com (http://www.sapphirescar.com) - the team that originally was porting ss2 but are going with their own project now, in the spirit of ss2 ofcourse http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Oh yes, that's the best way to bypass copyrights. Don't make a game which is a System Shock remake, but make your own game instead which has a systemshockish style to it. Sounds both the same, but is a BIG difference. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Works the same with songs. Don't cover people's songs. Just copy their style and add your own spice to it. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

In other words: They can sue you for stealing their work, but they can't sue you for "stealing" their style.

Someone should make a dukish game... ooops I forgot: someone already did. It's called Serious Sam. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
That's how it works, folks.
