After uninstalling HL2/Steam/All attached crap from my computer, I thought I'd try out Battlefield 1942, a game I had fond memories of. However, I'm now having constant crashes whenever I click the "Internet" tab in "Multiplay." Is there a fix? If it's one of those "Reinstall the game/drivers" things, then screw it, I'll find something else to do. Any help is apprciated.

When you click the "Internet" tab, the game tries to retrieve a server list. If it always crashes at that point, logic dictates there's a problem with BF1942 accessing the internet from your computer.

Do you have a software firewall on? Check that the ports BF1942 uses are open, or give the application bf1942.exe all-access.

I only have the Windows Firewall on this computer, and I disabled it and tried again. Still no luck. I'll try it on another user account and see if I get better luck. Thanks.

Little-make sure you are up-to-date on the BF 1942 patches. That could be a problem.

Make sure you are actually hitting the "internet" tab in multiplay and not the "lan" tab. I've done this numerous times. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif

Adjust your firewall to allow bf1942.exe to access the internet. Do *not* turn your firewall off to play. There's no need to do that and you're setting yourself up for problems. You should be able to connect just fine with your firewall up and running. It's most likely a configuration problem.

It's when I click the Internet tab. The program crashes with a fatal error. My firewall has BF1942.exe set as an exception, and I have the 1.61b patch. There are other people having this problem too, but it doesn't appear EA is addressing it at all. Oh well, guess it's back to Doom 3 multiplayer for me.
