View Full Version : Duke Nukem main theme guitar tab
http://www.mxtabs.net/tabs.php?path=Guitar,t,5190,Theme+Music,Duke+Nukem +Theme,60365
I was playing this for a bit. It's the most famous part (Intro obviously), but it's not the entire thing.
EDIT: Broken link.
EDIT 2: Found another one, which sounds more like it: http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/m/misc_computer_games/duke_nukem_3d_theme_tab.htm
i found great version of the grabbag theme for guitar pro on www.mysongbook.com (http://www.mysongbook.com)

that site is not only verry crappy to navigate, its also hell to actually see the tabs, what do you need to see em?
Most of the Grabbag tabs I find are Megadeth's version..
Does the original use powerchords?
Along time ago when I was still getting used to tabs and such, I found the bass tab. Then I tuned my guitar to Drop D and played the bass tab in powerchords. Didn't sound that bad.
Wait a minute, that IS the bass tab. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
I find THIS version better than the one you have
intro: 2x

I believe you need a program called TabIt to play the tabs. It's a program that uses midi-esque sounds to play .tab or .g4 or whatever filetypes.
It's a very simple program, and I don't like it. I'd rather LOOK at the .txt tabs rather than go through the hassle to download it.

yeah, i hate stuff like that too, and also, 90% of the tabs are megadeths version, only found one that sounded half like the original but was way off aswel http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif Sadly right now all I have is my Johnson Acoustic guitar, so it sounds alittle awkward to play metal tunes on it. But I still do it (tune it down and everything)
I tried playing the Megadeth version of Duke on the guitar; i found out that the Megadeth's version LIVES on distortion. You can't hear every note with an acoustic.
I demand a guitar tab for the orchestra version from the DNF 2001 video. Either piano notes or guitar tab will work.

Get Guitar Pro and import the original MIDI found on Duke3D CD, you'll get the finest tab ever.

I had a pretty decent tab I d/led somewhere, it's buried on a cd, if I knew where it was I'd post it...
Whee randomness.
(Click on the attachment and see some random MIDI song I made in Guitar Pro. Took me about 10 minutes, because I have never use it's interface before.)

^ love the whistle at the end...
Oh, the whistle's the best part.
The whole song is an intro to that very whistle. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/love.gif

what I usually play:
E--------------------------------
B--------------------------------
G--------------------------------
D--00-0--00-0----00-0--11-1
A--00-0--00-0----00-0--11-1
E---------------------------------
etc.
works fine for me http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
0 3 5 - 0 5 7 - 0 7 8 - 0 7 - 6 5 4
0 3 5 - 0 5 7 - 0 7 8 - 0 7 - 6 5 4
0 3 5 - 0 5 7 - 0 7 8 - 0 7 - 6 5 4
That's usually what I play, with Drop D tuning.
And my Acoustic doesn't sound half bad with Power chords, believe it or not.

The Title of this thread suggests that something is missing.
PLEASE someone help us out and give us the TAB to GrabBag. I will kindly respond with 2 of these :D and 3 of these  and maybe one of these  and I will not give you one of these:p But instead I will secretly be doing this ;)

7 strings huh? I never played one.
Dang i used the search for this at a few places but nobody seems to know it is called "GrabBag".
Anyways thanks for the link and as promissed
:D:D:love::love::love::cool:
I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask this, but since we got quite a few musical geniuses around here I'll try anyway..
I am, as so many other Duke fans, playing the Duke theme from time to time but there is one part which I've never figured how to play.
I think it is called the "shredding" part, but I'm not sure. So no one will be confused I can say that it is the part around 1:28 in Vertexguys version (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5505862259533727503&q=duke+nukem) of the Duke theme.
If anybody can post or link the tabs for this part I would be grateful. Thanks in advance :D

Assuming the song's in F# and this is the part you're talking about (my copy of Vertexguy's mix plays this at 1:28, anyway):
E:--------------------------------------------------------
B:--------------------------------------------------------
G:--------------------------------------------------------
D:--4--4-----4--------4--4-----4-------------------------
A:--5--5-----5--------5--5-----5-------------------------
E:--3--3-----3--------3--3-----3-------------------------
Or alternatively if you're playing an octave higher:
E:--------------------------------------------------------
B:--------------------------------------------------------
G:--11--11-----11---------11--11-----11-----------------
D:--12--12-----12---------12--12-----12-----------------
A:--10--10-----10---------10--10-----10-----------------
E:--------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: Just realized you might be talking about the really fast synth part that follows (duh!).
E:---------------------------------------
B:---------------------------------------
G:--------------11---10----10---11------
D:---------9-12---------12--------------
A:--10-12-------------------------------
E:---------------------------------------
Second part:
E:---------------------------------------
B:---------------------------------------
G:-----------------9-11-------9---------
D:--9-11-12-11-12------12-11---12-11--
A:---------------------------------------
E:---------------------------------------

Well since no one already did this I did it my self but the solo can't be played with a guitar the way it is in the midi. Use notepad to open the tab file.

Yeah, just how is this program supposed to know if it's possible to play what it creates or not? Why use programs anyway? Use your ear! :p

If everyone could play by ear, there wouldn't be millions of dollars worth of tabs and sheet music sold (and posted on the net) every year. Those of us who are tone deaf need all the help we can get. I wish I had a good ear, but until mine miraculously improves, I'll be googlin' the songs I need help with.

I wish I was. I've been playing guitar for six years and still can't figure out a song on my own. I have what Dicky Betts calls a tin ear.

I have used Sibelius 3 to convert the original mid file to a tab but unfortunately it only goes up to just before the guitar solo :(
Im in the process of learning the song. I can play up to the really fast synthy parts.
My attempt will be on youtube (someday)
after tht i shall write a tab for it :)
