First, I'll start off with my WMP10 problem, no sense in creating two threads, imo. When I used to click on a link to a mpg or wmv file (in IE) it would pop up WMP and start streaming the video file; now, for some reaosn when I click on a link of that nature, I get the following error: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. If the file is on another computer, verify that you are connected to the network.. etc" the rest of the error is unimportant. "More information" states it is error code C00D1197. I've done some googling and I've come up without any luck. My question is, does anyone have any idea how to get it to go back to streaming the video files when I click on them. Note: I can right-click and download the links in question, so I know for a fact that they are valid. Pasting the url into the File -> Open Url box produces the same error. My internet isnt exactly all that fast, and I would like to start playing a video without having to download the entire thing, really helps if I think Ive seen the video before.

As for my firefox question, it is in a way related to my previous question.. when I click on a link to a video, it will only want to download it first, rather than stream it in WMP (or another player). Is there a way to get FireFox to stream any ole media file using the player of my choice? This is one of the things that has prevented me from fully switching to firefox from IE. When I tell firefox to use wmp as the "open with" application, it will download it then play the file. I want it to play as it is downloading.

Well,here's a link to Microsoft's response (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/knowledgecenter/mediaadvice/0035.aspx#Question1) to the WMP error. At least the last few options offer some reasonable attempts of things to try.

No idea on the Firefox problem.

In FireFox;

Tools > Options > Downloads > Plug-Ins

Check that all of the Windows Media Filetypes are ticked.

Close the plugin window,

In the filetype area, near the bottom, find the item labelled 'Windows Media Video File' or 'Windows Media Play Audio File' and press Remove.

Next time you go to download a WMP File, make sure you select 'Open with Windows Media player' or something along those lines (cant exactly remember) and tick 'Do this automatically' (something along those lines as well)

(BTW, your better of just downloading the file, as WMP streaming is shocking)
