View Full Version : Hitman: Contracts - Any good?

Is it any good? I'd rather get feedback from fellow gamers than journalists. I've played the demo, but that was ages ago and I want comments from people who have the full version.

I loved it.
It's mostly flshback sof previous missions, with some new ones. But the upgraded engine, new melee weapons... it is a great stealth killing experiance.
I would say pcik it up if you liked the first two.

I love Contracts. Definitely the best of the three (even though that doesn't help you much).
Get it if you like stealth action and style, which this game has plenty of. If you get fed up with the stealthy approach, I guess you could go in guns blazing, but you wouldn't be playing the game the way it's supposed to be.
There are many ways to complete missions which will keep you coming back for more. Graphics are nice, sound and music are excellent, and like I said, the game oozes with style. It might be difficult when you first begin, but it pays off. Just have patience.

I disagree, I think that Hitman 2 was better as far as missions go. Contracts is great but way too damn short, and you are replaying several missions from the first game (though updated these missions are a bit more fun this time around). So there isn't a whole lot of originality in Contracts. Still you should at teh very least get both Hitman 2 and Contracts, and I did find Hitman 1 for the PC not too long ago for like $10 at Walmart...

I enjoyed the second, but found that it was too easy to go in "Rambo" style and too hard to be sneaky (though I always did it that way anywho). Haven't played the first. Is contracts more stealth-oriented?

contracts is goodb, but lacks of improvements.
It is basically old hitman2 (and even looks like it when post-filter disabled).
Weapons are great, but i would like to see all the weapons i find n my loadout menu. Stupid knife, syringe and that rope is boring already.
But game features a lot of good things, like if you shoot out the lights, you can jide in the shadows, just like splinter cell. Enemys and civs. can be now wounded.
Bad things: you can now run all the time, i would like to play nice and easy( read: walk)

It's been made by a Danish company, with Danish people... Reason enough to buy it... http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
*I'm Danish http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/redface.gif*
But seriously, it's a good game (Fu**ing hard, but still very good) If you like the idea of killing people in either a professional way, or in a psychotic killing spree, then you should buy it...
Also there are many different ways in killing people, so you can try to play the same level again in a different style... http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
I'd recomend it...

I saw it for $10 at Walmart (just like 1 and 2)
I'm picking it up when my funds allow (I love the first 2)

I like all the Hitman games 1 and 3 being my favorite.
I love the character from his awesome suit to his shiny bald head. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Contracts takes you back on a lot of missions from the first Hitman game and adds different things into those levels (Shotgun in a box of roses http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/love.gif) it also has a lot of new levels.
The stealth isn't all that spectacular and can be frustrating (even if i was able to get a Silent Assassin rating on every level in H2 and H3) There were way to many time where i thought i was in the shadow but was still seen. They oughta make it more like Splinter Cell.
The ability to change suits works fine though, it makes sense that if you're close to an enemy while wearing his buddies uniform he's gonna be more than a little suspicious and your suspic-o-meter will start flashing red telling you to get away before he puts two and two together. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
The assortment of weapons you are able to get are plentiful...and the minigun http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/love.gif
Some great rag doll (I loved using the "nail gun" cheat in Hitman 2 and pinning enemies to the wall by their hands and watching them just hand there.:D Not sure if Contracts has this cheat? )
I'd have to say buy it, even if you havent played the first one you'll get the jist of what's going on in the "story" (it aint really that much of a story more like jumbled flashbacks. Hell the first one didn't have all that much of a story either.) http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Contracts is good, but imo Silent Assasine is better!
Contracts graphics are a little bit better but thatīs all, Hitman 2 has more missions etc...

I have Hitman 1, was fun except for the jungle missions. I hate those in ANY game.
I tried a Hitman 2 demo awhile back and it seemed to suffer from slow-mouse syndrome even though I had the sensitivty up, which bugged me. Either it just felt sluggish in control. I wonder if HM3 is any better...
I liked it a lot, Yatta, get it, definetly! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yea the jungle missions were pretty stupid especially the whole killing the tiger part. But the drug lord in the middle of the jungle was awesome my second favorite Hitman mission (the hotel being my first favorite) I wish i could get Hitman 1 to run on my computer but i really don't feel like going through the patching processes, maybe some day. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

IMO its a no-go. The story sucks enuf to not buy it. In case you say that the story is NOT that bad, I'd like to ask you people what is the story of "Hitman: Contracts'? HM1 was an intense story-driven game. Whereas HM2 was more of an intense action-driven game. The later missions of HM2 was just too fun and full of replayablilities. While playing HM3 I felt that it lacked the ability like the past games to get you hooked to the computer for hours. Add the fast level loading in it, and it didn't give you any excuse to go to the bathroom and leave the game. But in HM3 it was more like "OK level 1 is finished, let the next level do an autosave, and I'll continue tomorrow". The HM3 experience was more like a massive demo experience...... when you sit with bunch of interactive demos, have enuf time in hand, and will play all the demos 1 after another without any definitive intention.

I think it lost some quality when they decided to port it to consoles...a game like hitman wasn't made for consoles, and they had to play around with it to make it playable on consoles, therefore bringing down the PC version. If nothing else, Hitman 1 was a GREAT game. Start from there since it's budget priced by now.

Its hard, I suck at hitman contracts, I go into rambo mode and have to annihilate everything in sight, sucks.

Maybe I'm just jaded and have to touch up my Hitman skills, but in the Hitman 3 demo I had a hard time trying to be sneaky and strategize about it. I ended up going all out, got to the submarine (but not in it yet) and before I knew it my main target had escaped due to all the alarm.

Yea the stealth can be pretty tricky but as long as you get a suit from a gaurd/worker/anything that is supposed to be in that area, and then stay a safe distance away from other people keeping your suspicion meter down it should work.
I think in that specific mission you have to find the guy who is wearing the right outfit (the guy that is supposed to be having a meeting with your target) kill him and take his clothes then you should be able to safely go through the tunnel to the boat...then from there i forget everything http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I might pick up Hitman 2 today for like $7. I'm selling:
- Max Payne 2 (really thought I'd keep it, but the game is entirely gunning... tried replaying it today - boring)
- Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow (fun but playing is too strict)
- Ghost Recon w/ Desert Siege (was fun but I strive for more realistic combat games -- missing handheld weapon models)
- Links LS '98 (complains of lack of space in XP, have plenty)
- Realms of the Haunting
- Deer Hunter 4 (dad's, never plays)
On a related note, I'd love to see a Hitman game with multiplayer. Imagine walking around in someone else's clothes, while the opponent(s) don't immediately realize it.. hehe.

There is nothing better in my books than playing on Professional, having no saves and you have to do everything absolutely right.
Then at the last minute, you have everything fall into place and your vicitms life is now in your hands. You kill him, dump him and find your way to escape.
Keeps you on your toes and is much more fun than killing everyone (I used to be that sort of person) http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sounds like a good time. I've yet to try any of the Hitman games on Professional. How could I perform without my beloved real-time map? http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
I'll re-install Contracts soon to meet the challenge.
I loved it just like the previous two. I thought "Traditions Of The Trade" remake was awesome! I'd buy it. Their both like budgie's, they both cheap! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif I've only ever gotten "Silent Assassin" on the Sicilian mansion (Hitman 2).

I love both games. I haven't tried Contracts(except the demo). The thing I really HATED about Hitman 1 is the lack of saves during the mission... Jesus. I will always remember that damn mission in the Columbian jungle...

Hitman 2 has saves, less depending on difficulty chosen. I believe you get 7 on the easiest mode.
Which is quite welcome to me.
I applied an official patch to Hitman 1 that made the Scroll Lock key enable slow-mo mode, which was very helpful, although I depended on it probably too much.
I know there is a cheat in Hitman 2 for slow-mo mode. I was thinking maybe I could bind a key to toggle it on/off and if it'd count against my score. Either way, it's 50/50. Slow-mo really helps in the hard firefights, but I use it way too often it becomes a crutch, and definitely not the way the game was meant to be played.
At least in Max Payne 2 you had limited bullet-time.

I've passed the 2nd mission (Sicily) on Hitman 2...
It seems things are much more challenging this time around. I was hoping to get a silent assassin rating but I got Mass Murderer and Thug!
Should still be a fun game though.

I only played Contracts so far, I'm gonna try Hitman 2 soon. It's an extremely morbid game. The level with the s @.m party in a butcher slaughterhouse, is particualrly so. The stealth element is very satisfying when you do it right. There's usually some ways to kill your target without shooting him, such as locking him in the sauna, or putting ratsack in his tea. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif When you kill for money there are no rules, I can't remember if that was the game's motto or not but its damn true. Once you've fully mastered each level it begins to get old, and the game is too short.

Well I got Hitman 3 today like I said I would http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I'm just starting on it, but a couple things bother me:
- no immediate inventory menu, forced to cycle through your number keys. The quick menu was much more efficient
- binoculars... they're stuck! The only way to get out is hit the Inventory menu, which sometimes brings the menu up, else it doesn't unless you hit the button twice. I'm so used to using holster to put away any equipped weapon or item. Why change it?
- Looks just like Hitman 2, but doesn't perform as well. I guess I could turn down my filtering and draw distance, but I shouldn't have to.
