To a group called Elevation Partners. One of the names behind the group is U2's Bono.

True dat.

And thank God, Sega Sports was sold to Take Two, rather than those 2.

Actually one of the other owners of the group is the ex-CEO of EA.

Well I hope he was the good one they booted out when they started to become the mass-production game excreting machine that they are.

YAY!

Thank God that right-wing facist Robert Murdoch didn't get his grubby hands on it.

Conglomerate corporations thirsty only for money who don't care about entertainment anymore, just trends and money.

Blech.

Personally my favorite largeish gaming company is Ubisoft, I have no reason for it, just gut feeling.

Don't all companies care about money? The capitalist system isn't based on altruism.

Yes, but especially EA seems to think (wish?) it can run the game making business like a soft drink bottling plant: cheap generic stuff + marketing = lots of money without risk. I'd be surprised if the people in charge there would have ever played a video game in their life.

But it's only a matter of time before they turn into EA. All their innovative game like POPSOT, Beyond Good and Evil, Settlers 4 and few more games are selling poorly!

For me as long as games like this broke even I would still make them as they boost your profile with the non mainstream crowd.

EA have failed to do this and I think in the long run this will hurt them. Just look at most big treads they normaly grow out of the neash(SP??) market this applys to all kinds such as fashion, music, films and games.

Think of one of the biggest seris of games in the last 5 years the GTA games the first one was a very nichy(SP??) game, EA don't make games like this and insted simply plug franchises that they own which in the long run people will grow sick of and then what? buy out someone? what if there is no one left for them to buy out.

All big evil corporations still take risks fox did it with the simpsons, movie studios do it all the time. It's time EA did it.

As for this news, It's good for games as we need more publishers not less so that devs have a choice of who to work with.

right, Rare is "just" a producer and MS bought them for around 375 mio. dollar!
How much will 3d realms cost, I want to buy them! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hhg.gif

I wouldn't give you 35 cents for Eidos... it is obvious that they are on their way down.

I think M$ paid way too much for Rare given their output up to now, but then again if Perfect Dark happens to be the Xbox 2's killer app, it could have been a worthwhile acquisition.
