View Full Version : Great, my sister hijacked EQ2 from me

[u]Stage One (Posted 3/22/05)</u>

Yesterday, me and my sister went to GameStop to get EQ2 (It was $30,
neither of us could pass it up.). I paid for it, and I'm also paying the subscription fee by getting game cards in place of the credit card.

This gets me wondering,(not to sound selfish or anything like that), what kind of right does she have to steal the game from me, which I bought with my OWN money, along with paying the subscription fee! WHATRIGHT DOES SHE BELIEVE SHE HAS?!

I came up with the idea of buying the game, she just "tagged" along.
The only thing she did was keep her character from the trial!

In my eyes, if you want to CONSTANTLY play an MMORPG, BUY THE GAME YOURSELF!!!

Is there anything I can do that way more playtime shifts to me instead of her?

[u]Stage 2 (Posted 40 mins ago)</u>

Well, this is going too far. My sister IS playing more then I am, and she's denying that fact. I have 21 hours in 3 days, big deal. She might have 30 hours because SHE PLAYS AT NIGHT EVERY DAY, NO MATTER WHAT!

I can't progress in the little time that she "gives" me. WHAT right was made to her when I BOUGHT (WITH MY OWN MONEY, mind you!) the game, she suddenly says, "I play first."

I felt like saying, "IT IS MINE. You want to play? BUY YOUR OWN!"

Isn't that what MMOs are supposed to be anyway? 1 person, 1 account. NOT 2 people, 1 account.

She's progressing more and MORE because she has her fiance helping her out, when I have to find everything out myself!

I have 3 options left:

1. Change the password that way I only know it, and if my parents get involved, I'll just say, "She has no right to set rules over a game that I bought. Besides, by law, only 1 person is bound to a single account, not 2 people."

2. Bring this conflict to my parents and let them decide what happens.

3. Buy another copy to escape all of the mess (which might be easier), but decide who should get the new account.

I'm leaning to #1 and #2, because I don't want to buy another copy.

I'm posting this here for a smart solution. I've been getting a lot of recommendations to do option #1. It sounds like the fastest and possibly easiest way to get the message through

The big deal is my parents stepping in, and claiming that I should share the game with her.

My parents would break the user agreement.

Your money your property, explain it to them like a rational calm human being, after you change the password of course.

Don't forget to be smart, and not erupt it into an argument, just lay down your story and if she starts whining then she'll just look like an idiot, so theres something you can laugh at while you're at it.

You've played 7 hours a day and you don't think you've gotten enough time to play?
Also, why didn't you have her pitch in on the game in the first place?
I say change the password, then go talk to her and explain that you should be able to play first since you purchased it, and if she has a problem with that she can pay you half of the purchase price and half of the subscription. If she complains and refuses to go along with your ideas then tell her she doesn't really have a choice and that you have already changed the password. Say that since she refused to be reasonable its either your way or she has to buy her own copy.

Mistake #1: your sister should pay half of the money in the shop, and the subscription. She should also pay half of all money you've already paid on your own

Mistake #2: now it's
Total time your sister played / ( time you played + time time your sister played) > Money your sister payed you / How much the game costs.
should be:
Total time your sister played / ( time you played + time time your sister played) = Money your sister payed you / How much the game costs.
if that isn't the case, force her to stop, how you do that doesn't matter (telling your parents, if they don't listen, start a fight with your sister http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif)

Mistake #3: You play first, why did you let her play first (that's what I mean with afraid to defend yourself)

Dogy said:
I felt like saying, "IT IS MINE. You want to play? BUY YOUR OWN!"

Mistake #4: you didn't say that, whiel you should say that (another example of you being afraid to defend yourself)

Dogy said:

Mistake #5: don't let her play on the progress you made, and do not play on the progress someone else made, that's not fun, that's the same as playing on each others savegames, or not? I don't know anything about MMORPG's and what they are, but based on what you say I'm guessing what it is.

Dogy said:

Mistake #6: tell him to shut up, he is in no a way your boss.

because your parents will tell her to share the game with you

In an MMORPG, there is never enough time. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/redface.gif

I also agree tha password to the account should be changed.

Are you in Freeport or Qeynos? I play in Freeport with my 4 characters. I heard they gave out 2 more characters slots, which is great.

Dogy

Wow, when she found out when I changed the password, she slapped me, AND she YELLED when she was talking to me. Not even calm. Then, we I gave her the correct password, she blamed me when it wasn't the right one, and when I typed it in correctly, she said, "HOW DID YOU DO THAT IF THAT'S THE CORRECT PASSWORD?!"

I replied twice, "Check your typing."

Dogy
03-24-2005, 03:45 PM
Well, we just came to a peaceful solution to the problem.
I'm buying another copy, and whenever she can, she'll pay me back.

Now, the only thing to worry about is my character.... (At least I didn't have about 50p!! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

Cerberus_e
03-24-2005, 03:49 PM
Mistake #7: you gave her the password, wrong! don't give her the correct passwords until you have all the money she owes you and there is a concensus about how long to play

If you don't pay attention she will change the password

Cerberus_e
03-24-2005, 03:52 PM
whoa, you've posted again.

Mistake #8: buying two copies, when your sister doesn't give you money, I'm sure she's able to pay you, she just doesn't want, so defend yourself, use YOUR copy, reset your character so all of your sister's progress is deleted. and tell her to buy her own.

but isn't letting your sister pay a second subscription enough since you already have the cd's/dvd?

How come no one mentioned getting her fiance to pay?
Personally I would have changed the passwords virtually as soon as I realised what was going on, then hid the discs. If she wants to play that much let her find the necessary means to do so. I also would have been prepared to trash the discs if need be. As for her slapping you and shouting and bawling - I would have just laughed in her face. It wouldn't have helped the situation, but I really would have felt better. Giving her the right password after that wouldn't have happened.
The daft thing with all of the above, is that I doubt I would have got myself in that situation in the first place, so it would never have come to that. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Lesson to be learnt though - do not engage in any sort of cooperation with sister in future without teams of lawyers in place first, unless of course she actually comes out and apologises for being a selfish cow.

Hey Dogy! I know it’s easy for people on this forum to tell you what to do, with out knowing the real situation. So I will keep that in mind. I can only reply to what you’re telling me. So if I get something wrong please correct me.

It sounds like your sister is aggressive and you are somewhat passive. All she has to do is freak out and you will do whatever she says. From what I have read, you don’t handle conflict very well. You sound intelligent because you came up with the best solutions on your own. So I don’t think you need help with that. What I think you need to do is improve your self confidence to stand up to other people that try to put you down, physically and/or emotionally.

You have to build up the courage (guts) to not let people walk all over you. I am sorry to tell you this Dogy, but you did not solve the problem. Your sister is happy because she got her way and you’re happy because the fighting stopped. You have been manipulated.

A lot of people think because most women are physically weaker then man, they are also mentally weaker witch is not true. No matter how big you are they will try to find a way to control you. Don’t let that happen. You said she hit you so I take it that your sister is older. Don’t worry one day when you grow up you will be bigger then her. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

A lot of people on this forum are going to hate me for saying this but STOP spending so much of your life playing video games. Learn how to fix computers, start running or working out, DO SOMETHING! If you spend all your time playing games you will regret it when you get older.

Good luck, I hope everthing turns out good for you. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I just have a LOT of spare time, I mean it, a LOT. I'm not a fat, saggy-assed looking geek with huge glasses with them taped together. In fact, I'm a bit fit for my age, considering all the lazy kids I see at my school.

Well if you feel you need to spend that much time playing games nothing I can say will stop you.

Ever think about joining a martial arts club? Just think how much better off you’ll be if you spent at least some of your free time improving yourself instead of some fictitious cyber character but thats just my opinion. MMORPG’s are made to keep you in your seat. They will do anything they can to slow you down and keep you paying monthly. It never ends…

I never said you were any of those things.

Edit:

If you really have your heart set on playing games whenever you want, why don’t you save up for your own computer? Maybe even a laptop so you can bring it into your room. However you will have to make sure your sister does not take it away. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

P.S.
You will need a router to share your internet connection. It will have to be a wireless router if you can’t drill holes in the wall. Also if you do get a wireless router make sure you use WEP and password protect your connection.
