hi

i am creating a level with some new art, and there are some new sprites. i want to make these sprites brokeable, such as trash cans, vase, some plants, etc. but i was trying to do that by editing game.con but i cannot create new actors in duke 1.3d, and i don't want to replace any other existing. is there another way to do that, or i must replace some existing sprites?

bye

Hi alejandro,
You can make most sprites breakable just by giving them a non-zero hightag. I don't know if this will work for imported art. (You will need an RPG or a pipe-bomb to break it.)

Let him who takes the Plunge remember to return it by Tuesday.

True, but all that does is removes the sprite from the map similar to the killit command in the con file. The explosion adds a little realism, but it still isn't the same as shooting it and having it shatter.

You can explode only flat sprites that way though...

ok, it's a good idea, i already use this for sign posts, etc... but is there anyway to blow these sprites with any weapon, such as a kick, a pistol... and make it spawn some sprites?

Sure, jump in the cons and start hacking. And I don't know if you're able to conhack and I don't know if you want to make a zip file with a TXT , MAP and a new CON (and lazy ppl would like a .bat file at it too so they don't have to overwrite things images/icons/smile.gif )

Since you're using 1.3d, the only way to really have an actor behave like you want it to would be to replace an existing actor. There are some "unused" actors that can be replaced, or you could find a non-essential actor and replace that code.

If you can code in 1.4/1.5, then you could make a useractor and follow it with the pre-defined state breakobject. This will cause the items to shatter when hit.

Not explicitly. You can use actions to change the appearance of an actor - it doesn't have to be for animation.
Then simply use different palettes to determine the action used and the actor will take on the desired form and behave in the same way as it's adoptive parent.
