I'm just wondering... is it possible to do this like if you flip a switch, a lot of monsters spawn somewhere? images/icons/confused.gif

OMG it's really ******* hot. It's 45 C in the sun (113 F). Anyway, i really am stupid, forgetting to ask: "Does anybody know how to spawn those enemies if you press a button?"

Thanks in advance images/icons/tongue.gif

Ah. Thanks a lot. I've got another question, which is a bit harder, i think. Is it possible to make monsters visible only when you look at them with the night vision? (Like they did to the laser tripbomb in some TCs) ??? images/icons/confused.gif

Btw i've got two more questions. I've been out of the build scene for almost 1/2 year. Can anybody tell me what happened to eduke and mapster?

I could tell you in Dutch since you're dutch too but well, this is for everyone =)

If you've already been a while in the Duke Community you should know the basics I think.

Ofcourse you still have to give the Respawner a hi-tag with the starting number of the Enemy (e.g 2000 = pigcop).

I don't think this is possible. Maybe with Eduke but I don't know. Or.. maybe you should use ( I don't know the full code) but something like this:
if use night googles: transparent. But that's not what you mean =)

The transpartent tribomb lines have not be done by con effects. They just changed the "Tripebomb Laser Line" into a transperent picture.

Well... Dutch, english, whichever you prefer. I've got no problem with english, so images/icons/tongue.gif

Anyway, i knew about the monsters (when Alejandro said it, i remembered it again).

Ewh, silly me images/icons/smile.gif

But i didn't really understand what you meant with the tripbomb stuff. You see, i want to try to make some ghost enemie, but figuring it's impossible to do in Duke 1.3D without replacing other things, i should install Duke 1.5 and then upgrade to eDuke.

And that's actually where my next question is going to. When is the last time a version of eDuke came out? Are they still working on it? And what about mapster? Are they still working on that?

All these questions. Geeze. People must be getting really sick of me images/icons/wink.gif

-sigh- well, i might as well delete this duke nukem from my hd and install eduke as i said. But... what's that website again? i knew...

Heh, wait. It was www.rctm.totalconversions.com (http://www.rctm.totalconversions.com) or something like that if i remember. Oh well, i'll figure it out soon enough images/icons/grin.gif

(Please answer that eduke and mapster question though. please. please. please images/icons/wink.gif

I should point out that it's not possible in multiplayer as there's no local control over the display of the actors in the game, ie the effect would be acheived by changing the actors properties not changing the rules by which the actors are rendered and hence would be visible to those not using the nightvision goggles in multiplayer.
As to the tripbomb effect it is quite simply a switch that was included in Atomic version and not anything else described here. It is hardcoded and attempting to achieve such an effect not using the inbuilt device would fail for the same reason described above.

deffinetly possible with eduke
i may write the code at some point

eduke can be got from www.saettler.com/eduke (http://www.saettler.com/eduke)
mapster from mapster-rtcm.totalconversions.com

Heh. I'm not planning on using ghost enemies in multiplayer mode anyway. images/icons/smile.gif

Hmm... Oh well, i'll add the eyecandy later anyway. As the enemies aren't supposed to shoot at you or hurt you (they're ghosts images/icons/tongue.gif )

Oh well thanks anyway images/icons/grin.gif

I have my own question.do u need duke 1.5 to use eduke?

ZWXinteractive
08-27-2001, 03:09 PM
Well, if i'm right: yes yo do. If you have v1.3 you'll need to buy the plutonium pak or the atomic edition of duke before you can install eduke. Make sure you have v1.5 though. If you've got v1.4, there's a patch avaiable to upgrade to v1.5.

I've worked with it before, and i know it's worth to get duke so you can install eduke! I really is images/icons/grin.gif

It'll be pointless to use the patch eventually... Eduke 2.1 (still in testing stages) requires the actual CD. You'll need to get Atomic once 2.1 comes out.

it is possible in multiplayer
BUT you have to take great care about sync
if you use myconnectindex to find out whether the local player is useing nightvision and ONLY change the invisibility bit you should be ok

Oh well, i've got version 1.3D (two times), 1.5 (Atomic Edition) and the KillATon edition. So i think I've got that covered images/icons/grin.gif

Who cares dude?!!? It doesn't work with Eduke anyways!

Well, i'll tell you then.

Yes it contains some extra levels (but i am not sure how much) and some programs which really make editing con files easier (Yes, that was sacrastic). It also contains a lot pre-made edited con effects and/or extra enemies but i never really got one of them working. You should be best with just editing it themself, actually.

Well, i've gotta go back to build. Seeya images/icons/smile.gif

Really? That must just be the new version, cause I one of my team members had been doing the patch thing b4, and he couldn't run 2.1 ... I had to send him a CD.

peter_m_green

eduke 2.1 will work fine with the plutonium pack patched on to 1.3d
however the installer may require you upgrade to 1.5 first

the kill a ton issue with 2.0 was an installer problem which hopefully will not happen again

peter_m_green
08-31-2001, 12:16 AM
which patch exactly if you mean the cd crack youre right it will not work on 2.1 i tested it

but it should be fine with the plutonium pack cd
(plutonium pack upgrades 1.3d to atomic official release from 3dr)

Mblackwell

I mean using the 3DRealms patch to upgrade 1.3 to 1.4 to 1.5 .

peter_m_green

i take it when you said the 3drealms patch you meant the plutonium pak?
that is the only official patch to upgrade 1.3d to atomic

ZWX asked a question I've been wondering about. Are they still working on EDuke? If they are, how about this thought: have either sprites OR models. If you want to put in a model, you hit "s" (like normal) and hit "v" on it. Instead of that huge set o sprites, it'll have two options: sprites or models. And if ya can't put in level-over-level, try sticking a model where you'd want the level-over-level effect to be.

Do you know anything about the fundamental workings of Build??? That would require alot of access work on Matt's part. He's already putting RoR and voxel models in. And alot of other things.
