Hello,
Recently my motherboard bit the dust… so I’m in the market for getting a new one. I’ll probably start researching some models tomorrow after work. My previous board was an ASUS A7V333 (http://usa.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=A7V333&langs=09) and I have to say that I liked it a lot. I’ll probably end up getting another ASUS board, but before I do I figured I’d ask what recommendations you’d have for brands or models.
Just a few notes about my system (in case you want them):
My CPU is an AMD Athlon XP 2400 (2 GHz) and fits into a socket 462 slot
I use DDR333 RAM
I use a IDE ATA100 Hard Drive
I use a 4x AGP Radeon 9000 card
I have some USB 2 devices… so a few USB 2 slots would be nice
Thanks for any help http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My mobo is an ASUS, same socket, only 2200. Ill have to figure out the model number. Its a great mobo and i think it supports up to 3000. Either get what you had or what i have. Like I said, ill find model # later.

I like Gigabyte. To each his own, but you asked for a recommendation. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have currently been quite pleased with ASUS and A-bit for their monitoring utilities and features.
I had a wonderful board by Intel for my old Rambus-based cpu, but I can't recommend a modern Intel board lately for the newer chips. I installed an A-bit for my mom's new P4 recently. Works great.
The ASUS is on my AMD 64 system.

Brandwise I don't think you could go wrong with any of the top names:
- Gigabyte
- Asus
- Soyo
- Intel
etc...
I use MSI, and probably will next time. I prefer to work with what I know.

I like ASUS, but every vendor has good and bad motherboards.

I just built a system around the ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe (http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1558,1778733,00.asp) and it ROCKS!!!

Hello,
Thanks to all who have replied. My research got delayed until today... but I put in a bit tonight.
Thus far the following look the most appealing:
ASUS A7N8X (http://usa.asus.com/products/mb/socketa/a7n8x/overview.htm)
ASUS A7N8X-X (http://usa.asus.com/products/mb/socketa/a7n8x-x/overview.htm)
ASUS A7V880 (http://usa.asus.com/products/mb/socketa/a7v880/overview.htm)
I'm also interested in the GIGA-BYTE GA-7NNXP (http://www.giga-byte.com/MotherBoard/Products/Products_GA-7NNXP.htm) but I think it's a bit overkill for what I'd use it for.
I still intend to do a bit more research... but any comments on the boards thus far?

Well after doing some more research, looking at prices and so forth I think I've settled on the A7N8X (http://usa.asus.com/products/mb/socketa/a7n8x/overview.htm) board.
Any comments on this? Speak now or forever hold your peace http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
