THIS IS WHO I want to be Mona Sax (if they include her in the movie...)
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0607865/
I think she would suit it very well... She was great in the movi Formula 51 with Samuel Jackson.

Not bad, not bad. Here's another idea, one that I've brought up b4. How about Edward Norton?
Forgive my naivette, but I seem unable to post pics from imdb.com Look him up, and study the pics from Red Dragon (okay, so he's blondified in this one, but he Does play a tortured detective) and The Score, and while he was on the skinny side for Fight Club, he sure was no pushover.

I agree. I'd like to see the actors from the game in an eventual movie. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I did ask Stephen if he'd play vinnie if there was a movie about Sadie (something that was talked about a long while ago.) and he agreed on it, so if he got the chance, I think he wouldn't mind playing Vinnie if there was a movie http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/love.gif

nah! not Gibbs! His eyes remind me of George Bush, and that's clearly a bad sign.
The one and only true Max Payne image was Sam Lake, the Creator - see MP1. He's far more handsome, and his face expresses all the right emotions all the right way.
Since first title screen i liked image of Max Payne 1's face.
Since first trailer i hated image of Max Payne 2's.

Funny you should say that. I have always thought Michael Madsen would make a GREAT Max Payne. He has the looks, the demeanour, AND the voice. But he'd have to play an older Max, like in MP2.

But if the movie is based on Max Payne 2, then Madsen is a better choice.
Amorphis

Madsen wouldn't be my choice... I really don't see him as Max Payne... Probably because of the way I now see him as an actor as a result of Kill Bill by Quentin Tarantino... I dunno... He just doesn't have the Max Payne charisma or charm in my opinion... Max Payne has an atmosphere about him... He's quite intense and calm at the same time, Madsen doesn't have that. The only Max Payne that I see is Sam Lake, without a doubt.

"Ok so maybe I know something about the drugs or maybe I don't, but you know what? None of that matters, because I do know bullets come out of this gun."
"So you think this is being shot? No no, this isn't being shot. You wanna see shot? I'll show you shot."
They could use Jean Claude.
"AHHHHHH! ou wan sum o dis. I ry to tell ou, but no one undastand wut I say. AHHHHHH!"
"So ou kill I ife an child? ou kill I fumily? ou ill pay. OU ILL PAY! YOU HEAR ME! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!"
Or as I mentioned already Bill Cosby.
" YOOUUUUUUUUUU think that's fear you smell? Well well that's not fear you smell SMART GUY. In actuality I crapped my pants, I am over sixty after all. HA HA HA. So tell me smart guy.. Who's lookin stupid now?"
"YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU you killed Claire and Rudy! Which is hard to believe, cause you see cause see now cause you see I was eatin dinner with them the other day and I says and I says I said.. RUDY HUXTABLE! YOU! YOOuuuuuuuuuuu eat your vegtable or there will be NO none negative JELLO pudding for YOOOUUUUUUUUUUUU."

I was watching one of Slater's movie trailers and I think it was the Alone in the Dark trailer I was watching. His character is speaking narativly and he has a depressed, gritty tone and he sounds much like Max.
Remember the movie broken arrow? Remember in the mine shaft when he was diving through the air with the Sig's? He already has the moves.

Gibson is too old. Max looks like he's about 30-40 while gibson Looks like he's 60. I don't think shoot dodge manuvers would look good or believable in bullet time with a cane. And how would he do the dual 9s with a cane in one hand?
I can see it now. Gibson attempts a dashing dive, but instead of looking cool he looks like a coat rack falling over, like an old guy tripping in slow much. When senior citizens to the rescue is in the works then Gibson should be considered.

The fact is that Sam Lake was not written a week ago and i was wondering if i could get a confirmation or something..if not...that's life...win some - lose some.

Ok in my opnion similiar to some i think Clive Owen would be perfect for this role ,just see sin city he is a very good actor and he has the deep voice and the type that can represent max pain because in sin city he says shoud i kill this cop and risck it all and max payne is like that he kills bandits coruptive cops and helps good cruks(mona sax) and bracks many rules because max payne is buy far side a goody-god cop and sin city is very close of what max payne in movie is probably going to be if they go in that noir style I just hope that they don´t ruine it making it just an action movie and i think that Robert Rodriguez sloud take a part on max payne movie . PS: in wikipedia Clive Owen is associated to max payne movie ho nows Clive Owen in MAX PAYNE http://forums.3drealms.com/vb/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Imagine this .....
Take2 makes Max Payne 3 with an even older Max ....
The Max Payne movie plans to get released in the same time as the sequel ....
In that case Bruce would do just great IMO. :)

So there are many at least satisfying choices for Max(and naturally the worst one will get picked) but I was wondering - which characters do you think are gonna make it to the movie, if it ever comes out?
Payneful Soul

^I would say, either Tim Gibbs(seeing as he's and actor) or(My choice) Cillian Murphy. Naturaly their going to adapt the first film. So I would go with Cillian Murphy for the first film. You may think I'm crazy for this pick, but in Max Payne 1. The thing that made Max' look so appealing is that he didn't look like a real bad ass. He looked just like a normal everyday joe kinda guy. He didn't even look like a cop, which made it easy for him to go undercover.
You weren't intimedated by his look, but by what you saw he was capable of. If you look at 28 Days Later, you see Cillian Murphys character. He seems like an everyday joe kinda guy, who wouldn't hurt a fly if he had to. But by the end of the movie, you see him change into this brutal, primal, fritening guy who you wouldn't really want to piss off. The way he dispatched of the "Soldiers", made it seem as though he had been infected by the virus.
Also theres something about his look, that says Max Payne(the Max in the first game). Cut his hair, put a lether jacket on him. Have him deepen his voice and take in the character. He'd be a great Max Payne.

I do agree that Wahlberg is a good actor. I've enjoyed almost all of the movies he's been a part of. And he is definitely a BIG Hollywood name, so of course we should be happy he's interested in the doing the part. I just had my own selfish wishes that the title role would be someone a bit closer to the look of Max Payne. In the end it could always be much, much worse. We could have Pauly Shore or Jean-Claude Van Damme as Max. ;)
The next question is, how do you think they'll do the bullet-time? Will they go the Matrix route or try to do something completely different or will they include it at all? Discuss among yourselves. he he.

IMHO, the Max Payne movie will not have bullet time.
Maddieman
11-10-2007, 05:05 AM
I'd hope there is Bullet-Time in the film, as far the games go, it was sort of Max's thing. Unfortunately it might dig up the whole 'who really created Bullet-Time™ debate?' again - especially with Warner Bros now owning it.
.....but this guy that DID Max Payne's Voice, His name is James McCaffery.....any resemblence.
Not much, but I saw him in L&O: Criminal Intent the other night and he was outstanding - put in very intense performance. If it wasn't for the fact that the likeness to Max is slim at best, he'd be my number one choice.

Max Payne is big shoes to fill, even for an actor like Mark. Mark is a great actor,
no doubt. But Max Payne is a "Bogart" Type of guy. Mark is more of a fast
approach, "Got Something to live for". Lets not forget he has to get the looks
and Voice down to make it good. Not one for one, but related voice and look.
If you think about it, there is no good actor for Max Payne. But i think Mark is
a good choice and will prolly try his best.
P.S Lets not forget the last time he messed with video games(See the attachment)

Mark may not look the part like a few other actors mentioned in this thread (I still stick with Timothy Olyphant) but he is a good actor. And the Departed showed he can do gritty, violence well.

Heard about this on Gamespot. I absoluted HATED his earlier stuff, but then he quit playing a pretty boy, and did Four Brothers, The Departed, and We Own the Night, which were all great, imo. I'm actually a fan, now. They finally started giving him good, serious roles, and he reminds me of Ray Liotta. I think he could pull Max Payne off, and I hope he gets the role. Now let's just hope it is directed as a film noir, and not a "videogame film". ;)

Walhberg is an awesome actor (minus the Planet of the Apes remake) and he's done gritty dark films before. Four Brothers and The Departed.
I see him doing well with Max Payne as a character. But it's fully up to the script and director to bring the film home. Timothy Olyphant is an extremely talented actor... but there was only so much he could do with Hitman.
Most people have accepted Mark as Max Payne, now they are being cautious over the writer and director.

Walhberg wouldn't be my first choice. But he's got the right expression at least and it they could have picked someone far worse. Kevin Costner, anyone?

I still think Timothy Olyphant would have made a great Max, he's got the looks and is an extremely talented and diverse actor.
But I feel Mark will do just as well.

Mark Walhberg sounds like an OK choice to me.
As for the movie, here's hoping that they manage to translate some of the entertaining dialog and humor of the games into the film. Though, I don't have that high of expectations for this one.

I'm on the fence here, the dead bodies (despite the body count) were largely intact and there wasn't much gore in the game. Only other potential ratings issue that comes to mind is the drug use. I don't remember any overt sexiness in the first game, only the sequel.

Not bad.
I hope they implement bullet-time with some sense unlike so many movies lately. Even the Matrix movies didn't just throw it in there, they had reasons for the characters doing it. Perhaps it could be tied in to Aesir's super-soldier efforts and Max starts doing it after they pump him full of Valkyr- a drug induced haze.
Damien_Azreal

While Max Payne wasn't an overly violent/gore filled/graphic game... it was an adult game that featured very mature subject matter.
The scene in the game where you see your dead baby (the dream sequence when it, while dead, moves it's arm). Holding your dead wife.
Killing hundreds of gun totting thugs and so on and on.
But Max Payne was also an adult game content wise by both story, depiction and language. Both games (second more than first) used a lot of profanity, were very dark and depressing, featured lots of drug use and abuse and very strong sexual themes.
I don't see Max Payne being able to work as a PG-13 movie. Just don't.
But I would like to see the source where Unbeholder got his rumored info about it being PG-13. So much crap circulates around the net that you can't really take everything seriously and hold it to truth. As Joe said above... take it with a grain of salt.

Seeing how bullet time was such an important part to the game, I'm interested to see how they implement it in the movie. My preferred version would be to have slow motion parts to the gun battles, such as in The Matrix Lobby scene. Bullet air trails would be a bit too much, though.

I thought that more true for the first one than the sequels. In the sequels it seemed they just went into bullet-time for no reason a lot. Like for example when Neo is fighting the Horde. All the orcs came rushing in...no wait that wasn't what it was. Neo was fighting a horde of Agent Smiths and throughout the fight it kept going into slow-mo for what? Some parts ok maybe but a lot of it could've been done without it. I thought the bullet-time was to show him moving faster than a bullet however it seemed like in the sequels more to slow down the action like an old day tv show, something like the A-Team when a bad guy goes flying out of a window. Anyway enough of my rant...
:)
I just hope the bullet-time in this is done more like the game allows than just to slow down the action and extend the scene by a few million dollars and 2 seconds. Also if they show him shooting & moving his arms to shot while in bullet-time I sure hope that they don't exaggerate him shotting at the bad guys but make it subtle his changing of aim to allow him to shoot more people than otherwise allowed like in the game but not like crazy fast movement that otherwise would be like "Who does he think he is? Neo?" :)

To me the best way for them to handle the bullet time CRAP is to not really do it at all. (let me explain) It was cool in the game, its generally lame as hell in movies... ESPECIALLY RANDOM SLOW DOWNS. Best slow down in any movie = Terminator 2 during the Mall encounter.
But, like I was saying, I hope they'd treat it with some subtlety, like say the slowdown scene in Die Hard 2 : Die Harder.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIxE5qYvJTI
Bits like the death at 1:28 and when Mcclane is rolling on the ground is how I would have "bullet time" behave in the movie. Make the viewer feel like the character is merely feeling an adrenaline rush during a big fire fight. The highlight example being around 2:33 to 2:52 where in the speed goes up and down through out the scene. For John the situation is moving slower, for the two attackers things are going faster.
Action scenes like that, and HEAT and other movies of that variety (psuedo realism with a lot of suspense) are the kinds of action scene I hope to see.

I really hope they don't use bullet time in a sense as if Max is some kind of super human. I think the whole idea to use it in Max comes form the way it's used in John Woo movies. And then from there it was built as a game play feature to help the player take on more without giving him tons of health or something else like that.
Either they should not use it at all or just subtly in specific moments where it looks cool. The thing they should really focus on is the characters, mood and story. Not necessarily make it exactly like the game but try and get the same vibe.

Max Payne isn't set in a virtual world where you can bend the artificial rules of physics, that's what I meant there. So unless a subplot of Max using Valkyr sets the introduction of the surreality of bullet-time, it doesn't really fit in his world.
In the game it was just something Max could do with no explanation or grounding, unless you count the "this is just a game" 3rd wall breakage. The true purpose was one of style, which has been done to death in movies anyway. Anyone remember the slow-mo facehuggers from the AvP movie?
I just hope the bullet-time in this is done more like the game allows than just to slow down the action and extend the scene by a few million dollars and 2 seconds.

Yes i do feel some camera shots AWAY from Max like following a bullet that is about to rip some dude a new one in slow motion perhaps would do just fine, we don't need to see another Neo here so i do agree with many points already brought up.

Or whatever format it'll come on. Suffice to say, although I'm just one person and that's not going to make any real difference to the $ side of things upon release, this is one film I won't be seeing.

Yeah, doing a movie based on Doom and hoping for a good story driven horror/action experience.... not gonna happen.
Hitman was a better game to movie transition... it was actually watchable and enjoyable. But still had some flaws. Max on the other lends itself to film extremely well. I personally can't wait to see some actual video footage.
