I just saw it last night. I went in thinking it would be a bad remake. When I left I found it to actually be entertaining and better than the original.
I watched the original as a kid and it scared me, this one didn't but I haven't seen a horror movie in the past 5 years that actually did scare me since I'm used to it. However it was a creepy movie.
Anyone else see it? Thoughts and opinions? Things they should have left out or changed?

I thought it was good but I liked the original more.

I will wait for it to hit video stores.
But between this, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, House of Wax and the Evil Dead remake... can't anyone come up with a new horror movie idea??

I thought it was pretty good. more tense than scary.

I saw it a couple nights ago, and it wasn't bad. It did have a couple tense moments in it. But since I haven't watched the original, I can't really compare them.
The main character looked a lot like Jason Lee, to me.

oh man, if you guys haven't seen the original, go out and rent it today!
it's creepy and scary as hell imho.
no matter how many times i watch it, it still makes me jump.
anyways, the remake sounds pretty decent(still don't think it will beat the original though).

Well, I was very sceptical about both “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” and “Dawn of the Dead” when the remakes came out. But I actually enjoyed both of them. Well, to be fair, without R. Lee Ermey, TTCM wouldn’t have been all that great – every scene with Ermey was a classic http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
So, if I hadn’t seen these two remakes, I would probably have been sceptical about this movie as well. But now, I'm looking forward to seeing it http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I own the original. For a remake this is actually very good. You get to see more of the house and it tells some more of the story.
I recently found out there was a sequel to the original. I'm scared to rent it just in case it sucks like shit on a stick.

NOTHING can beat the original.
The only exceptions would be Carpenters "The Thing" (which was more based on the book "Who Goes There?" than the original movie) and EViL DEAD 2 (some consider it a remake)
Didn't watch the original but the remake I saw was not satisfying. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mryuck.gif

It was Ryan Reynolds. But I see what you mean.

Not worth it. There was more than one sequal as well, don't remember how many... but piles of shit are more enjoying to watch.

i thought the original was absolute horse bollocks and i'm not expecting much from this remake
i'm a big horror fan and i remember when i saw amityville original about 5 or so year go for the first time, i was expecting something a little disturbing...except i got a 90 minute cheese-fest
i tried so much to like it but its horrible....just horrible
wouldn't take a lot for this remake to better the original in my HUMBLE opinionage
