I recently started my level on build. Now how do I play it?

At the command line type:

Duke3d -map FILENAME.map

FILENAME of course being the name of your map.

That's the MS-Dos Prompt way.

In My Computer or a file manager, like Powerdesk,
just double-click on Setup in your Duke Nukem 3D directory, scroll down to Select User Level, and look for your map.

The downside is that the Setup program will only count 40 user maps images/icons/frown.gif

Post your map when you're done! images/icons/grin.gif

You can also search some duke web sites for a mapper utility, like DukeRoch... There are lots of them available.

Try this line:
exit ?duke3d.exe/yourmap.map

Don't even listen to them this is the real way images/icons/wink.gif

You see, good ol' Roger is on my side!

Actually, running Setup is easier, Kef. I tried the MS-DOS version, but it's time consuming, trying to type an extra 15 letters and trying to remember PERFECTLY how to spell the name of your level. In setup, you could just find the map that rings a bell and hit enter.

Roger are you dumb! images/icons/smile.gif
1) that was a joke (the older post, duh)
2) If I don't know the name I mostly know the first letter of the map, and then I press tab for like a million times images/icons/smile.gif
3) typing duke3d.exe map map.map is much easier than running setup, chosing a kind of game, selecting a map etc. And besides, most of my Duke folders have more maps than actually fit in the Setup "Select a map" form.

But ok, if you like that way better, np for me. I'm even so lame that I've made a bat:
d.bat mapname

Heh, so did I. Load.bat. images/icons/smile.gif

Though I do know the names of the maps I want to load... images/icons/rolleyes.gif images/icons/rolleyes.gif

Your Gehtto map is not that bad, it just needs tons of more shading. And umm well, only typing d.bat map.map is really easier than running setup. It's just a fact.

it's easier to type "duke3d map ________.map"
than goin' to setup.cuz setup doesnt show my map and if you have the ms dos prompt open, type "build ______.map" then when your done editing just type "duke3d map ____.map"!

Why don't you use a front end like Dukeroch? Click you mapfile in Explorer, then click
. ok: you're in game
. edit: you edit your map (or a 3dr map!)
Simple as that! Options are much easier too...

Roger

Good thing I accented the o, or else it would be, "I am as crazy I eat a rabid dog!", eh?

It's more user friendly for the mentally retarded but it's not quicker.

First, it IS quicker, despite the fact that I'm a diehard DOS fan (believe it or not)
Second, I don't want to debate here about who's the mentally retarded.

Heh, my friend made an easier program with the directory's map list, you click on the map you want and there's 2 buttong, run and edit which you then can push. Very fast, though I rarely use it. It's also got buttons for running editart and editing a CON. And there's no crappy tabs or anything else to worry about.

Mostly though I just leave 2 dos windows open, initially type the commands "ebuild <mapname>" and "map <mapname>" and then just hit F3. It's easy, it's faster than using the mouse, and well...

To say that moving the mouse is faster than keyboard shortcuts is moronic. Why go click the X on a window to close it when I can just hit ALT-F4 or whatnot. heck why go click File>Save when I can hit ALT-F S?
