Best gun in Max Payne?

Overall I liked the colt commando the best, the ingrams were real nice to use in bullet time since they spat out bullets so fast. Everyone say their favorite gun and why.

Yeah i thought the colt was cool and i also thought the ingrams were killer sweet for some heavy damage. but overall the dual berettas were just too stylish!

on another note, in the E3 2001 trailer the dual ingrams are black and stylish but suddenly changed to this grey and unstylish piece of crap! any 1 no y?

They aren't black in the trailer, they're just in darkness, if you check the last shot where the clips fall and look around the top edges of the gun you can see that they are grey.

Well i must say that the Colt 1911 is the best weapon images/icons/grin.gif im using ultimate mod and it has them but from the orginal weapons i would say ingrams

yea the colt is really good in bullet time because it only takes 2-4 shots to get a kill. i also thought that out of bullet time the ingrams fired a tad too fast.

Btw, did you guys in any way measure how fast it shoots compared to the rpm of the actual weapon? It seems a bit to slow (the commando)...

I like the deagle, its easy for headshots and casuese a load of damage. The colt aslo gud but makes clearing out a room in bullet time piss easy.

I had the game but I cant play it coz I dont met the requirements just yet so I cant say, at first I thought Max would get his hands on a tommy gun (you know, the old fashion 50's mob preferred gun which kicks as*) but he actually uses today's weapons, so one day Ill make a mod for it.

Of the original game weapons I guess the Colt Commando was my favorite because of the great accuracy, high rate of fire (especially in bullet time), and heavy damage.

However, as bixen said, the SR-25 is now my favorite for most of the same reasons as above.

Well, no one weapon worked for all situations. If you were in a hallway or some other close quarters, then the best gun for me was the Jackhammer (when I got it) and before getting that, the shotgun stopped most of the bad guys in those type of areas. For more open areas, then definitely the Colt Commando. I found the Sniper Rifle virtually useless, except for the odd area, because enemies consistently spot you as soon as you move into their fields of view. I rarely used the pistols at all in the later levels, because they had little stopping power.

Come on guys, doesn't anyone use sniper rifle with Bullet Time? It's one of the most powerful combinations in the game. Try playing the Asgard maps so that you use Bullet Time and crouch to steady your aim images/icons/wink.gif

Actually, I did try that in the tutorial (I only have the demo thus far...). Certainly makes aiming a HELL of a lot easier.

Colt Commando is the most versatile weapon in the game...once you got your hands on it, there's really no point of using other ones (except you are running out of ammo)
my other favorites are the shotgun and dual Berettas(it's just too stylish images/icons/smile.gif )

The Sniper rifle saved my arse a bunch of times. Used with bullet time it's devastating. Colt Commando is the bread and butter weapon. Jackhammer for close quarters. I like it better than the pump shotgun. Dual ingrams when they're all running at you! graemlins/hhg.gif But my favorite weapon are those gas cylinders laying around in some areas! images/icons/grin.gif

I'm not sure if I even have a favourite weapon, as I assess situations and choose my firearm accordingly.

I do love the silent elegance of the sniper rifle, though. I think out of all the weapons I've used in various action titles the sniper rifle is particularly fun and satisfying to use. I love getting the opportunity to use it in Max Payne, as well as Deus Ex and No One Lives Forever.

I hope on one of these mods ppl making that they do some sniper levels, the 1st time i played through the game i saved all my sniper bullets casue I was sure there wud be a certain level designed for it but there werent. The nearest thing to a sniper level was the 1 where u are on that moving platform where tehre guard houses wiv snipers in, for me sniping is taking out the enmey wivout them knowing images/icons/wink.gif so hopeflly well see some of that!

the grenade launcher just owned. i used it until i ran out of ammo for it, then couldn't wait to get more. i just think it's spectacular how the guys fly through the air like that... a few times i was so mesmerized that the other dudes shot me images/icons/rolleyes.gif

I agree w/RhythmKiller...the dual baretta's hit so fast & much more accurate than the uzi's, seems to not allow the enemy a cushion to react with!

Besides the Colt, the Jackhammer did a fine job too, as a rapid fire shotgun.

Sawed-off? It really is a toss up between that and the dual barettas. The Sawed-off was the best for one-on-one combat. The two quick, yet very powerful shots made that gun a close friend of mine. Plus the reload looked really cool on it. Of course the most stylish gun(s) were the dual barettas. The Molitovs were very ingenuitive also. And who could forget the M-179 grenade laucher for the real emergencies!

I have to say my favorite weapon was the Molotov cocktail. Several times I would rush into a room full of thugs, dual Berettas blazing, and get shot down. To get revenge on the bastards I would often launch my next attack with a Molotov and listen to them holler. A little disturbing, actually.

People often say the Desert Eagle is accurate, but for some reason I couldn't hit the trip mines with it unless I aimed slightly above and to the right of the mine. I had much better luck with the Berettas when it came to trip mines.

And for cinematic value during bullet time, the mp79 is terrific. You can watch the fat 40mm shell sail through the air, usually followed by explosions and flying bodies.

I liked the dual Desert Eagles in the Ultimate mod, wish they were in the regular game. One Deagle is just too slow and not enough rounds for all the baddies comin' at you.

Regular game, I'd say the pump-action shotgun. That things kicks major ass.

You can say whatever you like, but the Colt Commando IS the best weapon. Great at close as wel at far range and very accurate.
But ingrams are more fun to use.
