Is it possible to make water surface transparent like in Shadow Warrior?
If so, how? images/icons/confused.gif images/icons/confused.gif

One word: EDuke.

(The method is glitched as you can't stay on the surface, but it's still cool.

There is another trick (made by Bob Averill), you can get the tutorial at http://www.planetduke.com/jsbuild

It's under the special constructs category, at the bottom of the page

Here you have a link to the file:

Pascal Rouaud has done a one-way transparent clearwater effect and I've made one too.. but u're not gonna get those images/icons/tongue.gif

I can spread Pascal's tuturial but I think he wouldn't like that and for mine.. I just don't want it to be spread yet because then you're going to get all this map using it which sucks images/icons/smile.gif
But maybe, I will one day or soon images/icons/grin.gif

How do you make the water look like molten metal, you know like the T-1000 in T2?

Molten? Firstly the T-1000 doesn't look molten - molten metal is very hot as most metals have a very high melting point. They tend to radiate energy in the red end of the spectrum at lower temperatures hence molten metals look glowing red.
The T-1000 whilst changing form is highly reflective, so I'm going to assume what you mean is how would one make the surface of the water look reflective.
The answer is that it would basically be impossible with normal Duke, unconvincing with Eduke and reasonable with a Build source compilation using the reflective floor code by Ken Silverman.

Ok thanks, you seem to know alot of molten metal images/icons/smile.gif . I should have used the word liquid I guess!

If you want actual reflectivity, there's no way since that code was taken out of Duke (which irks me to this day).

A good way to just make an extremely smooth liquidy surface would be to program a nice algorithm in Qbasic or something and take alot of images. Make 2 sets. Then just double layer it with the top set transparent, or both I suppose.

That should work, what do you think cyborg?

That's the sort of unconvincing effect I was refering to. It'd almost certainly look a bit ropey.

It was supposed to look as Hydrargyrum in T2...

It could work if i just make a deep hole in the ground and plase the "water sprite" over it and makes it a little transparent, but it would not work so good cause if i try to fly over it, the screen would just turn blue (like it is when you are under water) so that's not a good idea!

What do you expect to happen when you use the underwater tag in a sector? It can't tell where your waterline is just because it looks like water.

I know!

Of course he knows. He even said it wouldn't be a good idea.

You can draw the map using Bobs way, and next copy the sprites using EDuke.

Unfortunately the weapons wont work this way images/icons/frown.gif
