If you find you need to reinstall Windows in the near future, you might be in for a shock when you start up your Windows XP CD. Service Pack 2 changes Windows enough so that your original CD installer won't recognize it. (You'll get an error message saying that the CD can't update the new version of Windows). So, what can you do?
There are a lot of instructions on the Web that show you how to make a slipstream copy of Windows XP with SP2 installed. Slipstreaming the original Windows XP CD is easy. The big problem comes from figuring out how to use Nero Burning ROM, Easy CD Creator and IsoBuster to create a working CD.
AutoStreamer is a program that will create a burnable ISO image file for you. All you need are:
1) Your original Windows XP CD.
2) A copy of the Windows Service Pack 2 update (ftp://ftp.ku.lt/pub/Windows/systems/XP/WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe) (English, 266 megs).
3) A CD burner.
4) A freeware CD burning program like CD Burner XP Pro. (http://www.snapfiles.com/get/cdburnerxp.html)
5) Use a program like CD Check (http://www.elpros.si/CDCheck/) to test the CD for errors after you burn it. If you get any CRC errors, then you either have a dirty CD or you had too many other programs running while you were burning it.
Autostreamer takes care of everything else. It's really nice and has a friendly green interface that asks you just a couple of questions. I made a slipstreamed copy of my Windows XP CD this afternoon and re-installed windows with it. It worked fine. Check it out http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
