A lot of people probably use RealPlayer at least occasionally, so I thought this might be of interest:

The real formats are fine, especially for low bitrate encoding. The problem lies with their software packages. In short, they take over everything that even smells like multimedia on a Windows PC. It's even worse than Quicktime.
Even Real's enterprise edition software, which is supposed to be relatively free of bloat and despotic features, doesn't live up to the promises. Utter crap.

No worries. I've never been a big fan of Real or Quicktime. For me they are necessary evils as much of the video online is in one of those two formats.
Anyway, just providing info for those who it might affect. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I wish RealNetworks and Apple would just release some sort of codec for their formats, instead of forcing me to install their software or use the equally suspicious RealAlternative and Quicktime Alternative packs.

Whats wrong with RealAlternative and QuickTime Alternative? I've started using it and it looks fine to me... http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

They work fine, I use them as well. It's just that there isn't an official download site, or even a readme that tells you anything about the codecs. Oh well, I guess I'm just nitpicking; since RealMedia and Quicktime are both proprietary formats, I don't think anyone involved would reveal his/her own name. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif

Don`t worry, it`s safe to use RealAlternative and QuicktimeAlternative, they don`t mess up your system like RP and QP do
