View Full Version : Windows XP
I've got a new PC with Windows XP and after a weird process of installing Duke Nukem 3D onto it (the sound test didn't work yet sound works in the game!?!) I added Build as I did on my old PC.
Now for some reason, I can't get into 3D mode like I can on my old Win95 PC. When I press Enter it says "Highlighted Pointers Checked"
Has anyone else had the same or similar problems? And if so, how did they overcome them?

I haven't tried any of what you're talking about here, but one of the things XP has (as does W2K with a downloadable update) is compatibility modes.
Create a shortcut to the program in question, right click and check the shortcut's properties and click the Compatibility tab. It gives you options to run the program in a Win95/98/ME/NT4.0/2000 emulated environment. Doesn't always work, but it's fixed a couple problem apps for me.
Good luck.
I've tried all the compatability modes, and it still doesn't work images/icons/frown.gif
I even changed the controls for getting into 3D mode in bsetup.exe , but that didn't work.
I hope there is some way to make it work though, my old PC looks all blurry compared to this one

I remember when in 2D mode, if I hit Enter then it would do that. However, if I hit Enter on the Keypad (on the right side of the keyboard, the little number pad thingy) then it would switch into 3D mode.
I know which "Enter" to press, I've used Build on my old computer!
It says "Highlighted pointers checked" on both Enters with numlock on and off!

Then XP doesn't differentiate and you are screwed or your keyboard drive sucks.

There is a carrage return key and a numeric calculation entry key. You want to press the key that actually says 'Enter', not the carrage return key.
What's a carrage return? Ask your grandad, I'm sure he used a typewriter.
So...no one has a clue how to get it to work with Windows XP then?

Windows XP Sucks (at least for running DOS games and other utils). If you are an avid Duke3d/DOS game player I suggest finding yourself a copy of Windows 98se, or search the net to find a good DOS emulator (if there is any).
