That sucks. They shouldn't be allowed to do it because not everyone wants to get assf**ked into paying $4000 for a huge TV set, or less for one of those shitty looking LCD TVs. They should wait until theres a wider range of them on the market. I'd rather have a smaller one, and every time Ive seen HDTV displays in stores, theyre all huge and cost tons of money.

They should just never have a cutoff date, and just make everyone stop making and selling NTSC TVs. That way if someones TV breaks their next one will be a digital one, and eventually they can stop.

Can you buy HDTV tuners for your computer yet?

Well 85% of US homes have either cable or satilite and are un affected. Since I am one of those 85% I do not care.

Yes, they do now make consumer level hdtv cards now. ATI currently has the most popular one, I believe it runs for just about $150.

Considering the number of commercials you are forced to sit through these days, advertisers should be buying me my next TV set.

You know you can buy at $40 (or less) set top box that allows your ancient TV to pick up a digital signal. Not to mention, the frequencies that are freed up are going to law enforcement, and emegency (ambulance, etc.) use. Is that really so bad?

Some people seem to be confused. You don't NEED to buy a new digital TV, and no, not all broadcasts will be in HDTV. If you're one of the people that still takes the cable directly from the wall, and connects it to the TV, you will need to go to your cable provider and get a converter box. If you currently have an analog box, all you need to do is trade it in for a digital box. No huge deal, and no new TV required. Why do you think a lot of cable companies have been pushing to get you to get a digital converter?

This does come as a bit of a surprise to me, as I remember reading sometime in '01 or '02 that the FCC didn't see 80% of people being ready for digital broadcasts until around '08.

If I see another enzyte(sp?) commercial with that retarded smiling weirdo, I am gonna chop off his weanus.

I have cable, so I would just need to get the digital box. Of course, I think that requires an extra monthly fee for that service. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tinyted.gif

Well if we wait for the masses to all decide to get HDTV's then we'll all be sitting around for the next ten years.

Don't care. I don't watch TV. It's just a screen for my DVDs and Gamecube.

Where there's no TV, there's DVDs. So if your analog TV doesn't support the new standards, while waiting for a high-definition TV, you could get a whack of DVDs like me.

They plan to abolish analog broadcasting here by 2008 IIRC.

Unfortunately digital television here is lagging years behind the US; only within the past few months have PVRs become available to the public, but the advertisers have learnt from the US, so we won't be able to cut out the ads either http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tinyted.gif
