Hey all! I've been feeling nostalgic for the days of working with MaxEd and visiting the boards. I thought I would stop in and say hello and see how things were going with everyone. It's exciting to see a lot of the familiar faces showing great screenshots of new projects. This community certainly doesn't lack dedication.

So anyways.. How have you all been?

Very well thanks http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif, and welcome to the forum.

Welcome? He's an oldster :P

You used to be around when I first started posting here didn't you? Back in the day when I released that little tweak mod I made for myself?

How's the job at gearbox working for you? Sorta weird to know another forum member that lives so close to me http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Well, the famous Cshedd! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
I heard lots of good things about you man, I dont think we never talked before but Its good that you still remenber your modding motherland! :P

Well, from my side, things are coming along pretty nice!
My mapping work for Mission: Impossible - New Dawn TC is done, and we are almost done, and about to release this baby. (Man, it feels good saying this after 3 years of development!)

Im also developing another TC called Katana: Rogue-Ops, and I still got a long road ahead of me! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

If you'r interested in seeing some screen shots, check out the web pages! (Links on my signature)

What about you?
How's the Level Designer work coming along at gearbox software?
Ya know, Its my dream becoming a professional and paid level designer like you, I've seen some of the work you did for MP1, and that was already top-notch, I realy love the eye you have to map, the way you manage to achieve great envirnoments whithout wasting too much mapping work! :P

Cheers, and good luck for you! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Rico:

Of course I remember ya http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hall of Mirrors looks like a sweet project. I was checking out the Civil Unrest link in your sig, but the screenshot was missing. Do you have a website up for it anywhere yet?

The job is going fantastic! I loved working on BiA and am enjoying how things are moving along with that. It was made with the Unreal Engine though, so not a whole lot I get to do on the creation of all of the content. The whole static mesh thing has turned me into more of a layout/gameplay mapper. I've been dying to open up MaxEd lately and have the freedom to make whatever I want! Whenever I open up that editor I feel at home. After spending a lot of time looking around a viewing the unreal community forums, I get extremely nostalgic for my mapping roots. It's here where all the real mapping takes place! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

As a matter of fact I'm rendering out a little lighting test right now ( trying to remember the tricks ).

You mentioned you live close. Where at in the area are ya?

HD:

Your screenshots and work look truly great! Working with some fantastic people on those mods too. Maddie is definitely as top notch as it gets. I've had the pleasure of working with him on a yet to be announced mod. Mr.Uniq is as good as it gets when it comes to skinning characters. M1tch is also one hell of a mapper. And let's not forget Rico. Is StratonAce working on Katana Rogue Ops?

I think you definitely have what it takes to start applying for some industry jobs. If you're located in the US Gearbox is still interested in hiring a few contract level designers. I've been trying to get Aavenr a full-time position there too ( not that he's aware of yet http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif ).

I hope that as summer gets here I'll have a little more time on the weekends and in the evenings to play around with a few side projects. I'm definitely going to try and hang around here more than I have in the past. It's a safe place with the best of the best.

Thanks for the kind words cshedd http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Civil Unrest doesn't have a website as of yet but we do have webspace. However, I've been trying to keep the whole project under wraps until we think its good enough to show the entire community. Of course, progress is a bit slow because I've focused my efforts on finishing HoM first so that I can then do my best working on RO and CU full time.

You'll hear from CU eventually, I don't believe in giving up on projects http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I am sad to say I haven't had a chance to play BiA as of yet because my gaming budget is pretty tight these days. I did notice a demo was just released so I'll be definitely giving that a try. Would you happen to know if any of your mapping work can be seen in the demo?

I live in Dallas as well, University Hills. (Right beside the University of Dallas)

Is that anywhere close to you? Dallas is a pretty big city.

cshedd

Well, not much of my work can be seen in the demo. I did the almost all of the work on 3 of the retail maps, then did a lot of little tweaks and bug fixes near the end on around 10 - 12 others.

I live in north Dallas on Frankford road, near where the George Bush Turnpike turns into 35E South. Seems about like a 15 minute difference.

Are you attending the University of Dallas?

Welcome back Carl.. good to have you back (even if it's just for a short time) http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Oh btw buddy would like to point you to maxpayneforums.com -- it's pretty active and most people hang out there nowadays.. it'll be good to have you there http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Haha that's cool, seems like we live pretty close to each other.

I don't attend UD but I might, depending on the next few months. I can get a full ride to UD if I wanted to on scholarships but their CS program is almost non-existent seeing as its a liberal arts school. Right now I'm attending community college to save some money, eventually I'm transfering to either UTD or UTA. UTD being my current preference.

Do you use MSN or AIM? You should drop me a line so we can talk some more later :P

Thanks for the compliments! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

StratonAce left the Max Payne community, he had his personal reasons, and now I believe he is mapping for Unreal. Since he left the community, and quited the Katana: Rogue-Ops development, I am his replacement as a project leader.
And yes, your right, all those people are very talented, and every single one of them pays a crucial role in the development of the TC!

I live in Portugal (Europe), fortunatly or unfortunatly Im pretty sure I'll have to emigrate to have a decent future on the GameDev world, we shall see on the next few years when I finish High-School, I'll make a kick ass portfolio and start aplying for industry jobs.

I agree with you, what you said about MaxEd, I've tryed some other editors on the past, and none thouch the freedom you feel when mapping on MaxEd! Even if it doesn't support vertex editing, etc, Its a hell of an editor...

Much respect to this man. Though I do feel his mapping skills have been somewhat under-appreciated but hopefully we will solve that at some point in the future. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Let's not forget Kemical either who's actually a work buddy of Cshedd here. I am pretty sure in a couple of years this scene will have have many more modders playing in the big leagues.

Good to see all of you are still around ADoomedMarine, Bixen, Sayantan, Aavenr. I have a lot of work ahead of me this year ( the new game, married life, etc ). But Jenni is pretty supportive of my obsession with mapping, so I think I can get away with an hour or so an evening with my favorite tools.

I still talk to Aavenr a bit online, though regretfully not as much as I use to, or would like. I'm going to make a conscious effort to change that though.

Rico: I do AIM but not a whole lot lately. I can PM you my screenname so we can catch up whenever I'm online.

Sayantan: Thanks for backing me up a few months back in that general gaming discussion! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif You kicked some ass in there. haha

ADoomedMarine: I'll definitely stop by the forums today some time! It'll be good to see what everyone is up to.

HP: Hey, the key is just applying. You've definitely got the talent for it. Just keep going and one day you'll find yourself in an office building finishing up a AAA title.

Bixen: None of the doomed gang is doomed! After what I've seen, I have nothing but the utmost confidence in everyone involved in this community. You guys are the bread and butter. Trust me, I've seen the other communities and the other talent pools. None of them compare to this one here! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I've been playing with MaxEd a bit at gametime lately and for a few hours at home the last few nights. Hopefully I'll feel back in the swing of things in no time. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I need to get Kemical to swing by here to. I should go knock on his door.

I remember some of the very first tutorials I picked up when learning to map were yours, Aavenr. And not to mention that you tipped me off to the open contract position at Gearbox. I am greatly appreciative of both. Aavenr's WIP's are gonna clean the floor!

Hahha, just saw this old thread and thought there's something to let people know.

November was a fantastic month. Firstly, Carl has joined iD Software and working there since November. Probably kicking Doom Ass (not sure whether Doom team or RAGE team). Secondly I got a job at "Knowledge Adventure" in the very same month and now happily making Kid's Games (www.jumpstart.com). Just a head's up. :)

I have a 6 and an 8 whom I bought into JSWorld when you could buy all the packs and play it as long as you want, it looks like a time limit deal now.
My daughter has been through the whole program a few times from the start - earning all badges, some for the third time.

They're also in JSOnline World, and I have to say that the JS software has contributed a lot to their academic learning, and the customization of their world with pictures and art has helped them with their computer skills.

Mariamus, what difference does it make? Think of it as recycling. :)

That's great news about Carl and yourself though, Satan. I've just started a new job this week too -- online marketing and community management, ironically enough; but sadly it's not games related. Just a matter of time though.
