Yesterday, i got my Inno3d Geforce 6800 GT and decided to run some benchmarks.

Using 3dmark05 my card scored 4273 wich is a low score for a 6800 GT card but normal when combined with an intel 2.4 CPU 533 MHZ FSB.

So I decided to overclock my CPU pushing it to 3.0 GHZ!
and my VGA from 350/1000 to 400/1100

Well what can I say, the increase in score in just amazing. From 4273 to 5441 http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Compare Link (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=809206)

Games now run without any lag in huge areas at MAX details!

I am impressed...

I can get about 420/1145 max stable on my vid card what about you? My best 3DMark05 score is about 4850 though, on account of my Athlon-XP 1800 POS.

I can get about 450/1150 max stable but my GPU temperature will hit 77 celcius degrees wich is a little bit high!

4850 is a very nice score for an Athlon-xp 1800+ CPU!

If you forked out $80 or so you can get an Athlon 2400-M, you should be able to hit 2.4ghz with it quite easily on air.

I know, but what's the point? I'm just going to get a San Deigo 3700 probably.

Can't remember my 3DMark05 score, but the 2003 one was in the upper 9900s. Pretty good I'd say.

Mine was something like 11,800 in 3d Mark 2003 and 5,600 in 3d Mark 2005 overcloking my AMD Athlon XP 2400+ to 3000+ speeds. I was using a Leadtek 6800GT overclocked to Ultra speeds.

Yeah overclocking makes the difference. I've got a stock Athlon 64 3200+ S754, a Radeon X800 Pro AGP (stock, again). That was the first time I got the DX 9 sound test to run, due to me buying a SB Audigy 2 ZS, because of my THX speakers. But you've got to wonder if some of these programs were made for certain cards? Like Doom 3 is for nVidia, and HL2 is for ATI. On my X800 Pro box, it says that it's the recommended card for HL2. Didn't buy it based on that though.

Got 12054 using 3dmark2003!

do you have a compare link to your 3dmark2005 score?

A ~9900 score is a bit low for you system specs!

you should get a least 11000 and up!

btw, the only problem I had is that whenever I overclock my CPU greater than 3.0 GHZ the sound becomes unclear and dies after a short period of time.

I guess this is due to the fact the PCI/AGP ( mainly the PCI) bus are working higher than their default frequencies!

Unfortunatly, you can not lock your PCI when using an intel MOBO.

But I am really satisifed with my result, not only because I got higher score in 3dmark05 but because also my games work much more faster ( a jump of 20 FPS in all games), Pretty impressive I guess...

Yes you can lock the PCI, you just have a not so good mobo. Now you might want to be careful if you don't have a PCI lock, because sometimes when you OC too much the harddrive controller (which is on the PCI bus) goes crazy and you loose all your data. That's why having a lock is a very good idea.

Ouch! Thanks for the heads up!

I guess I will get an 865 MOBO with 800 FSB and AGP8x, probably this one (http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWeb/Products/ProductsDetail.aspx?DetailID=399&MenuID=22&LanID=0)

Do you have to install any extra cooling thingamajigs when you overclock your cpu that much? Im thinking of overclocking my 2800xp but i only have a single fan cooling the system.

Nope, just stock cooling (CPU idle: 31c load: 42c).

Extra cooling does help though, because you can raise the voltage more and thus overclock more, since you have that extra cooling capacity.
