What are you mocking Roger.. it works fine. What else did you want then? A windows prog where you can drag files from the group into a dir? Man you know Duke is old and you don't need it anyway.. Kextract just works fine. If not.. make us a better one please images/icons/wink.gif

Kextract is easier than any windows program, you only have to type one line!... But ok, if you don't understand the DOS prompt then a windows program will be easier for you images/icons/tongue.gif

Theres nothing wrong with Kextract. If you dont want to use it, then good luck with extracting .Grp files..

Just copy all the files from the build folder from your Duke3d cd to your Duke3d folder and type:

"kextract duke3d.grp e?l?.map"

e?l? is the name of the map, for example Hollywood holocaust is e1l1.map, or Area 51 is e4l11.map

Kextract is crap.

Kextract and Kgroup are one of the best of their kind, simply because they are command-line based. On my computer I prefer to use DOS to make directories, delete stuff, move files between directories etc. Its better than using Windows.

A lot of people tend to slag the utils, but what they are failing to realize is that these are the same tools we used to make the game with. If they were so crap, how could they have produced the game that you obviously like so much because you're into modding it?

Kextract works perfectly, If you want to extract maps just go into the dos prompt, go into the duke directory, and type: Kextract duke3d.grp *.map and if you want to extract EVREYTHING, just type: Kextract duke3d.grp *.* Simple.Much easier than backing up original cons. images/icons/tongue.gif

I say kextract is crap because it doesn't work for me. I couldn't get it to work if my life depended on it.

But in today's operating systems it is cumbersome to use. No one questions the superior game 3D Realms produced. Yet on numerous occasions 3D Realms and you yourself stated in this forum that Duke Nukem will not be upgraded into modern operating systems. Since hardly anyone uses DOS anymore and Microsoft makes difficult to use it, it is not surprising people tent to say this or that program is crap, they simply don't know any better.

You can use DukeRes (http://ca.geocities.com/dukesunrise2002/html/files.html). It is uploaded on my little SST File site for download.

I Could Make A Batch File That Extracts Any File You Want! But It May Take Me A While. If You Want One, Reply.

That's easy to do...
1) Open a new file in notepad
2) Write: kextract duke3d.grp %1
3) save as... like "extract.bat"

And now you can type "extract *.map", or *.art, etc... anyway a batch file like this is not needed I think...

Just Run The Prog, Type The Mapname And It Extracts! Currently You Can Use duke3d.grp And Extract .map Files. I Will Work On It More So You Can Choose The Group File And The File Extention. images/icons/grin.gif

It's Done! images/icons/grin.gif Due To Limits In Dos, There Is A Small Bug That Makes The Program Go Back A Step. It Doesn't Hurt The Program, It's Just A SMALL Inconvenience. images/icons/cool.gif If You Want The Program, E-mail Me At Jcw87@go.com With Kextract In The Subject So I Don't Get Confused And Think It's Spam (Stupid Pointless Annoying Messages)! images/icons/smile.gif
