Ok so we all remember [that what I guess is now] LamePrey contained music tracks from KMFDM. My questions are:

1. Any chance of hearing that gold in the new release?

2. Any chance of LamePrey. After all you had us hooked on that '98 E3 vid http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

SASCHA says he isn't allowed to release it...which of course is understandable - especially if its getting used in the new Prey.

Make us happy George! :P

Who is Sascha and what has he/she got to do with Prey ?

IF they decide to release LamePrey wich one should it be ?

The Tom Hall one ?
The Paul Schuytema one ?
The Corrine Yu one ?
All of them ?

What exactly happened to Corrine Yu's Prey engine ?

Is any code from that or any other version in the new Prey ?

Anybody who wants a lame version of a game is lame! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Not really, they are either very interested in the game development process, or they just want to see how the game looked before it was released.

SASCHA konietzko (kaptain k) is the mastermind behind one the great industrial pioneering bands KMFDM and who was contracted (along with Tim Skold who is now with Manson) to do the soundtrack for Paul's Prey (the one for tech/development interests I would like to see). I found lameDuke ('94 Duke3D) fascinating - check it out its quite cool.

from Apogeegames.com

Soundtrack

A big surprise in the area of music occurred in Nov 1997. It was announced that KMFDM was to compose the music for the game, and they did deliver:

In my last update, I told you that we were expecting some new KMFDM material. Well, it came (4 theme tracks), and boy, does it rock! The whole team, in shifts, filed into my office, we closed the door, cranked up my stereo and let it rip. By the end of the CDR, our jaws were hanging open-this is some of the best stuff I've ever heard from KMFDM (that's what Sascha promised us, and it looks like they're delivering).

While it'll be some time before you can hear their tunes (though those of you "lucky" enough to brave the mayhem of E3 will get a short aural peek), I thought I'd fill you in a bit on how they're working on the music.

Our approach is simple-build the body of music out of a small collection of recognizable themes. KMFDM and I have been working together on designing the various Prey themes. Of course, there will be the main game theme, plus themes to represent each of the species of the Trocara (as well as the Keepers), and some other themes to represent other key characters in the game.

I put together some emotional descriptions of the various themes (like, how are you supposed to feel when you hear the Keeper's theme, for example), plus relevant backstories. From there, the band has been working on different approaches-one great idea that Sascha and Tim had was to attribute a certain beat speed to each of the Trocaran species. The latest CDR that they sent has rough versions of four themes, and it was cool to close our eyes and listen-we could really visualize the Trocaran species through their music.

We then put together our comments and thoughts on the themes to sent back to them for revision. Right now, they've gathered together (some members of the band live overseas) in Seattle for a month of studio work, laying down tracks for us and for their next album.

Currently, most of the music has never been heard by the public. However, some of the theme music can be heard in the background of the 1998 E3 video.

Personaly I am most curious about the Corrinne Yu stuff, since we have never seen anything of it, we have seen two interviews and one trailer with the Paul Schuytema stuff.

Also Corrine Yu was working on an engine wich Scott Miller was really impressed about.

I wonder what happened to that engine, I would really like to see 3D Realms developing their own engine wich they then clould license to others. They have said that they should have done that with DNF.

Now they are using the Doom 3 engine for Prey, I am wondering if they just threw away Corrinne Yu's engine.

Also I wonder if it would take alot of effort of replacing the Epic code in DNF's engine ?(I am talking about for use in their next in house game after DNF).

Edited:

I also wonder if it would be a good idea for 3D Realms to reconsider their policy of only developing one inhouse game at a time considering that they have grown considerably the past few years. HH have got two inhouse team and they are apparently 35, 3D Realms currently are 30 and on a hiring spree.

Definately not until DNF is finished.

Wasn't much to throw away.

We haven't grown that much and I can't ever see doing more than one game at a time in house. I can see trying to be more efficient and organized and not taking so long http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

They have one team. They had two for a short time, but it was working on a smaller title. And in general, multiple teams are a really bad idea for small companies.

Oh C'mon George dodge the opening post why don't you! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Is there any chance of us hearing the KMFDM trax in the future? Same for LamePrey after the main release?

Pity Lee left ages ago...we can't haggle him for music info's anymore :P Cheers...mrc http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Please, no LamePray. At least until after prey has been released, I prefer the real thing above any lame version.

Since they havn't said anything about it, it might be so that they use KMFDM music. If KMFDM did specific music fopr Prey back then and 3dr payed them back then, 3dr own music and then might use it. But it might not be up to date.
But George avoid to answere it, so who knows http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Found this picture on my hdd yeasterday. I did for some topic a few years back when I wanted 3dr to start work on Prey again.

When Corinne was here, she was the only one working on the game - she was doing tech experimenation only - she was an engine coder. There wasn't much else going on, if I remember my timing right.

Why didn't she start to work on DNF after you put Prey on Hold?
