My monitor is screwed. When I play in 1024X768 resolution in ANYTHING, the screen becomes all pincushioned, distorted, and yellowed. I have to use a higher resolution like 1280 to get rid of it. This is becoming a problem since I won't be able to play my games very well. Is there any cure for this?

Well, I can tell ya, with the monitor right now, I maxed out the resolution all the way as far as the monitor and the video card would allow... 1280X1068 @ 75 Hz, which the default by the factory was 1024x768 @ 60 Hz, which was rather weak. I mean, the graphics never looked better on my PC than they do now. So I'm not complaining. Gotta love an ATI graphics card on an LCD monitor, it's meant to go together in most cases, just as long as you set the LCD in the right light view mode, in this case, I cranked up the contrast and the brightness as far as it would go to make the imeages and text pop and graphics look like I'm really in the game. That can't be too difficult to do.

You don't want to push the monitor past what it can handle. Like, 1600x1200 @ 200 Hz, for example. Degauss it maybe?

Degauss? No, LCD I don't believe does that. You're forgetting that I've got a flat panel. For CRT, yes, I would understand that. However, for LCD, the 1280x1024 @ 75 Hz is in the high-definition levels, which this monitor can handle quite well. Is this question related to a CRT or an LCD, I don't think you clarified that well enough...

I don't have any experience with LCDs, but once before 8IB, you've misguided people on your computer knoweldge. I'd leave this one to the pros. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

He doesn't even mention an LCD monitor in his post. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/redface.gif

I don't have an LCD, sadly, I have one of those old-skool box monitors. If you want, my monitor is Visual Sensations VS-190i. It was working fine in the morning but it started going apeshit on me in the afternoon.

Since the problems you describe only affect one screen resolution, I doubt this is a major problem with your monitor.

I recommend going into the monitor's control panel and adjusting the settings for 1024x768 there. The monitor will store different settings for different screen resolutions. You should be able to solve the problems you describe there. When the settings are saved to the monitor they will only affect that one resolution, meaning your other resolutions won't have changed as well.

Eh... I don't think I have a control panel for diffrent resolutions... -_-;;; Strangely enough, it doesn't screw up if it's on Half-Life 1. But I still want to play Shattered Galaxy. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif

If this is a DirectX/Direct3D game, then you can set a default refresh rate.

Start > Run > dxdiag > the last tab http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/redface.gif > Override... > put something like 85 in the box

Maybe that'll work.

I can play games and do whatever comfortably at 85 Hz. Anything below that bothers me. Everything is done at 1024x768 @ 85 Hz. I used this program called Reforce to lock my refresh rate in place, because when I play Savage or any other Open GL game, it always goes back to 60 Hz. No problems with that anymore.

Just fixed it, all I had to do was change it to 75HZ http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif

Why of course I used CRTs before this, my Compaq had one, and I have dealt with the resolutions and brightness settings a lot. I could help you based on that. I have Degaussed that once or twice, and it seemed to clear things up. I mean, this is the first PC I've ever used with an LCD, so I can see where you're going with this thread. After all, in the next couple of years the tube monitors are gonna be obsolete anyway, knowing that everyone'll be High Definition compliant by then, and the tube's gonna be a thing of the past by the end of 2006, that's the FCC for ya.

First of all CRTs are more then capable of delivering an HD complient image (1080p included). Secondly, a good CRT still has better image quality then a good LCDs, and costs about 3 times less. Third, nothing is going to be replaced until more advanced display tech comes out, which is cheaper and visually better then all existing tech. I personally think OLED one it has matured. It has better image quality then CRT and LCD, and is cheaper then both, but the main problem now is they burn out too fast.

And yes, I8B you really don't know what you're talking about. You come in a thread that really has nothing to do with you, and the first thing you do is derail it as you usually do, by spouting off about how good your computer is. Well if that's what you really want to do (you make it painfully obvious), start your own damn thread!

Oh and could you start yet another thread where you can go on your zealous rants about the "High Definion" marketing bullshit you've got yourself so enraputred in. Please, stop posting about it elsewhere. Seeing how someone can be so gullible as to not just believe, but have a passion for this non-sense, claiming to know some almost divine truth, depresses me.

Sorry if you're offended, but it's late, I'm tired, and your constant half-incohernt babbling is getting on my nerves.

PS: If you have a mental disorder I'm not aware of, then I apologise for any offense. But you should really get it out in the open beforehand, so people know what to expect. I'm being serious here.
