I just got a new hd... samsung 160 GB... The harddrive is detected in the bios and in windows, but it doesnt get a letter... (i.e E:) and therefore I can't get to it... or format it.
What's up with that??? http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Did you forget to initialize it in Disk Management? Gotta remember to do that. Then you can format it with NTFS, assign a drive letter and cluster sizes...It will apeear "offline" if it's not initialized. You'd want it to be "online" or working.

Always nice to know:
Win95/98/98SE or ME will not install on a 160GB HD.
Win2K will only be 160GB (not 140) when a patch had been added to the register.
If you would put it in a old computer and the bios would not notice the 160GB, you should use a software bios.
Maxtor owners should use MaxBlast, this tool will also partion and format it for you.
