I have been watching stargate sg1 and I think whith the new portal tech that prey has, people can use that tech and but it into a stargate mod.

Ther has been started about a thousand SG1 mods for a every game out there and all of them has been closed down by the TV station that own's stargate.

Don't make a Stargate mod. Make a mod where explorers travel through dimensional portals (wormholes even), to other worlds in search of friendship and knowledge about cultures. Call it a WorldGate. Maybe you'll get away with it.

There is no need for a stargatemod!
As Zach said, there is already a game in production using the Unreal 2.5 engine.
If you want stargate, buy this game wid, it doesn't look bad.

My opinion is, that mods should be creative and not some movie rip-offs.

Agreed. I'm a big fan of the SG-1 series, but I think The Alliance is going to set the bar too high for any of us to make a mod that doesn't look like a cheap knockoff. (They have full access to the entire cast of the show and constant input from the producers and directors.)

Although, there was a stargate-based mod for Half-Life 1 that was pretty good. It is called "The Gate" for Half-Life. It's a large download, in HL1 standards, around 160MB.

While I do say the game in production does look cool, aren't most games based on shows and movies pretty bad (AvP the exception)?

Seriously asking, most of what I have seen has been pretty bad, just thrown out to try and make some extra money on the poject.

It's how they are used, I guess that is the basic difference. The portals in Prey are fully dynamic. Sound, weapons, creatures, ai, etc. all pass back and forth through the portals, and they can be moving or static at any angle.

It's not just a vis portal as in Unreal (which we used ourselves in our previous Unreal based games), but a true rip in space between two zones.

We also can, and do use them seamlessly in places. You are walking along when suddenly gravity is less, or reversed, or the normal laws of physics don't work any more and you had no idea that you have just stepped through a portal. You can even look back and see the area you were just in...or...we can have you walk along, and you turn around and suddenly what is behind you isn't what you just walked through.

We can do a Tardis like space (with the doors open) where you see an object, with a portal through it, but the area inside of the object is bigger than the area outside. A creature in there sees you, shoots at you and you see it and hear it and suddenly he comes roaring out to kick your ass.

There's no 'pop' as creatures teleport from one zone to another, and sound doesn't suddenly work or not work. We'll show some examples at E3, and they are just a few. (We only have so much time to show stuff in.)

We have a ton more that we are dying to reveal after that!

What would be a better Prey mod is a His Dark Materials mod...with portal tech, you'd be able to really cut windows into other worlds just like in the books...basically like a fantasy version of Prey's portals I suppose. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
