Im currently having troubles with my asrock motherboard (new one) and the problem is that it doesnt accept any network card in it. Ive tried to reinstall windows and all kind of things, but it still cries about a error 10 "could not start device". No its plugged hard in and ive totally tried 3 diffrent adapters. Integrated realtek 8139/xx? and Accton AND a legendary realtek8139C
The computer worked fine before the last MB decided to f*ck up for me http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif but i yesterday bought the new one so i want to know that if i should get a refund or something ? but if i can get it working it would be great !
oh and ive tried those under XPSP2 and W2K pro

3,06gzh P4 2CPU
512DDR
Radeon 9700pro
Asrock p4i48 (last one was P4i45D)

Thank you for any help ! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Does your BIOS have an option to enable/disable Plug and Play?
Does your motherboard already have a network adapter built into it? (Check your BIOS again)

It usually has no effect because Windows 2000 or XP doesn't use the BIOS Plug and play. This settings in Bios only affect legacy OSes.

Does not apply, You can have all your PCI slots full with NICs and the integrated one workin all at once.

As for Oasiz problem, I guess that if you tested with various NICs, you have a defective MB. Return it.

well it seems to detect those PCI adapters and windows seems to detect them too. but now the problem is the drivers. i try to install the JUST right driver and it whines about "The specified location does not contain information about your hardware" even when ive tried diffrent drivers. BIOS is default and LAN is enabled. every step goes right when it complains about that stupid error http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif is there any way to manual install drivers ? i really hate it when windows does not let you make your own decisions. The bad part is that when i put it to show network adapters on that list it shows nothing. and none of the *.inf is to its taste.

Yes. You can install drivers manually from the Device Manager. Create a Restore Point before you fiddle with the drivers. If the new drivers won't start or cause crashes, you can always restore the old save point.

On the device driver tab, click "Update Driver" skip the "Connect to Windows Update" pop-up (click "No, not this time") then click "Install from a List or specific location." Make sure you have the new drivers decompressed somewhere (temporary folder).

thats exactly what i tried to do, but it whines about the "no info about your hardware" thingy. is there a more manual way ? cause i know that theyre the exact right ones but windows does not accept them. the strange part is that those devices should be auto-installed with windows installation but no luck. Xp install 5 times in a row makes you sick in time :P its like a strange bug. its like it wont shows that i dont have even the windows regular adapters (wich has accton and realtek) and yes the drivers are WHQL http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dopefish.gif
all i can say that its the strangest thing that ive had with XP
EDIT: a small demonstration picture.

If I'm repeating something someone else has said, sorry:
1) Check the diskette your using....might be bad (A:\)
2) Check the floppy drive you may be using...might be bad (a:\drive)
3) Any chance of buying a different ('new') network card? They run around $10 bucks for a 10/100 nic card. Your current one may be 'bad'.

well i gave up http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
no its not bad a:\ because its not even working properly.
and i used bluetooth to transfer files from my friends computer over my nokia and from there bluetooth them back to my computer http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif . Windows should have those drivers too but it wont notice... im getting a new motherboard soon. and for the new card thing. no way ! i just plugged my accton to my warhorse compaq. and it works http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif well nothing more for now. ill just figure another way.

I was getting an error today trying to install an 8139 card into a win2k system. I just ran the installer about 5 times, and it suddenly worked. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/redface.gif
