WinLIRC/IRex + PowerDVD

I use WinLirc/IRex to operate my infrared remote control system (with a serial receiver). It works fine for my ATI TV program, but once I start playing a movie (its ok before I hit play) in PowerDVD the remote doesn't respond anymore.

I have tried increasing the priority of IRex and WinLIRC already has 'realtime' set. This didn't help.

I have a 2.4ghz P4 with hyperthreading + 1gb of ram so I doubt its a horsepower problem.

One thing I think could be a problem is my serial port settings:
BPS: 9600
bit rate:8
parity:none
stop bits:1
flow control:none
IRQ:4 (not shared with other devices)

But I am not very familiar with serial configuration.

Any help will be appreciated.

It also seems to not work right when watching DVD in Windows Media player. Perhaps a codec issue?

I am not specialized into the media aspect of computer usage to know why an MPEG2 source would be interfering with my hardware (or utilities).
