Some guy at work has a laptop and wants to extend his desktop to his external CRT, since his boss is too cheap to buy him a bigger external monitor. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/redface.gif

I have had to disable the desktop extending function on one computer before, because the laptop didn't support dual monitors/mirrored display on a new LCD monitor. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/redface.gif Therefore it forced itself to extend onto the new monitor.

Anyways, that was a few years ago and I have no clue how to get the damn desktop extension to work.

I've been in the properties for the display and clicked on monitor 2, which is inactive and the CRT. I select Extend desktop and nothing happens.

I am wondering if the resolution is too low for the laptop to extend and/or the resolution is too high for the CRT.

As a test, I just set up a brand new 17inch LCD and I got the same result.

I can mirror the desktop on both fine, but what needs to be done to extend it to the external monitor? http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/redface.gif

With many laptops there's a built in menu for determining how to handle the secondary monitor. Usually it can be accessed via a function key physically on the laptop.
