Whoa. That's over $1000 NZ dollars. But a $1000 upgrade wont give me visuals like the PS3 so I have no problem forking out the cash.

So far, nothing more than rumour. I'm not sure they'll be talking about pricing until a few months before release.

Thats not bad, compared to getting a 400 dollar video card, a new motherboard+ processer combo, 512 more mbs of ddr 2700 wouldn't give me as much gaming potential as the PS3 at its announced spec status right now.

$465 = £253 which is very reasonable as most consoles have gone on sale in the UK for £300. However I'm guessing that conversion rates aren't going to apply to us in the UK like they mysteriously never seem to do and we'll get charged £465 or $852 and get ripped off like we always do. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

So someone's guessed the price that Sony would have to sell the machine if they released it now, that's my guess.
I guess that the cost would be cheaper in a years time as tech prices always fall.
Remember kids this don't come out for a WHOLE YEAR

Consoles in Uk for £300? Don't you mean £200? I've never seen a console (with no games) for more than £200! Where do you live!

When it was first released the PS2 was £300 wasn't it, and the dreamcast. The only reason the XBOX was cheaper was because it had to compete price wise with an already price lowered PS2. I might be wrong here but I'm sure that's right. Tried to google for it but couldn't really find anything except this £299.99 (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=56384)

Your quite right the PS2 was 299, for a few months, get the most out of the hard core fans. Then it dropped to 250, then MS/Sony price war brought it down to where it is now.

Guess i never looked at the price when it first came out then. I got mine for £200... and that was before the Xbox was released.

I allways look at it as a tax on the stupid people that want one first, pay over the top, for hardware thet ususally has flaws, with only a few games.
Why buy the console at launch?
Wait for more games and the second manufaturing faze to get the best deal.

True, but the rumored $300 price-point for the PSP turned out to be spot on.

Quite a lot of rumours turn out to be true.

I'd be happy with that price. Sony will be making a huge loss on sales of the unit itself.

Several of them having to do with Prey.

I would be happy with that price if Sony finally delivered a system that didn't break shortly after launch.

Hmm that wouldn't surprise me. I thought 'that will be one expensive puppy' when looking at the ps3 specs.
Btw the Saturn was £400 at launch http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hm - I am not surprised at all.
Sony's consoles are the most expensive at launch. The PS2 cost about 400€ (which is by today's trading course about 506$ US). The PSP will most probably be around 350€ in Germany. So I assume 450€ (~570 US$ !!) for a PS3 could be a realistic price, around here. Video gaming is an expensive hobby in Germany... http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tinyted.gif
I'll pas on that one, anyways. I never buy consoles at release. Too expensive. Not really worth my money.

Europe normally pays that anyway, US have had it good for a long time, but now europe will probably pay like £500 http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

LOL... I could do a whole lot more with a PC, and it has a longer life span. I think $200+ is too much for a simple game machine, let alone close to $500. Especially one that will have to be completely replaced in a couple years and is only good for games.

Considering Sony's launch price history, this is certainly nothing out of the ordinary.

I didn't know you could buy them in that size! I've only seen the "syrup" containers that can be made to make that much coke.....

if it does retail for $465 they better not make it £465 like sony like to do to us low-life british gamers. the only company which acknowledges the current exchange rates is nintendo. when the playstation 1 came out it cost $299 in america and £299 (pounds) in britain. that means we were paying the equivilent of almost $500 http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/redface.gif if the same is true this time, we'd be paying $855 http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

That's true, but remember that Sony is not going to be the first out of the box this time around. The XBox 360 is likely going to be out for a good 6 months at least before the PS3 hits the shelves, and I wouldn't be too awfully surprised to see MS institute a price drop the very week of the PS3 release. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif
Either way, I can see myself paying $300 per console, but I just don't think I could justify $400 or $500 on principle alone.
