View Full Version : how will the levels connect to each other?

yes, how http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/redface.gif

progressive loading is good, but doesn't that slow too much down?
little segments like HL and HL2 is very annoying, a 20 seconds loading screen after every 5 rooms draws you too much away from the gaming exprience, and when you start enjoying it, a new loading screen appears http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif
Will it use that system?
and does DNF have battlelords?
after all I like the level per level system the best, like doom 3, duke3d, far cry, etc... do it. especially if loading times are very short after you load a savegame in the same level where you were before you loaded the savegame.
I hope prey uses that system too? my second choice is progressive loading, if that's possible.

I prefer the level system, but the levels should be in sequence, like the first two levels of D3D for example:
At the end of level 1 you go down in an elevator and you begin level 2 in the same elevator. That is the kind of thing I want to see. That and big levels of course. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif but I am sure they got that covered. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

What does this have to do with Prey?

Battlelords are like Cerberus_e's trademark.

Those big guys in Prey kinda look like Battlelords http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Well, I think he's getting a bit carried away. Don't you?

I'm not sure what type of loading system would be the best. Well, obviously the progressive system would be the best if the hardware available is capable of handling it.

It's a traditional system of level after level.

Would be kinda cool if the end of a level is a portal (so you can actually see the beginning of the next level)

Well wouldn't that effectively make it not level after level or do you mean just a small view of the next level like in hl and the game loads the next level once you enter the portal?

Exactly what I mean, Parker. It's just a subtle detail that makes the levels feel consistant even though they're disconnected.

edit: though, I don't suggest this method for every level -- only where it makes sense (if portals can make sense, that is)

Good choice! We don't really need something too fancy.

Doesn't matter really, the experience is the same.

no, little segments draw you too much out of the game (see hl2)

Yeah. As long as your computer is fine, there'll hardly be a difference.

You know, that's a cool idea.
