By the way, if anyone happens to come across new footage (in the form of what's missing from the 12 min vid, or even higher quality shaky-cams) but you can't host them due to bandwidth limitations, we can host them on our PreyHQ site. It'll be nice to keep it all together so people can see it all at once.

Yes it is, but 3D Realms gave creative input. You could look at it as them pitting a 'seal of quality' on the game.

It's Human Head's game. But 3DR is doing more than a Vivendi or TakeTwo. They are using their development experience to put the production quality polish on the game.

Think of all the mistakes you made in life. Now imagine you had a little pixie whispering in your ear telling you how to avoid the mistakes. That's 3DR. (Hehe, GB and Joe in a tutu...)

I also posted it on oblivion-lost forums, they aren't very impressed, but that's quite naturally, they are awaiting stalker because they are tired of linear FPS games.

Nah, the shaky cam footage is quite sufficient, and actually better.

The DNF 2001 video just showed us a ton of snippets in a well put together manner, but I like the fact that the Prey demo shows us a lot of actual gameplay.

I would say that so far the videos have been reaching quite an audience. Problem is some people say your site is down when it's not. Is it possible your site went down for a few moments and that's when the guys from Neowin saw it, and marked the first link in the article I linked to as "down".

edit: It's also possible that they tried to right click + save the files - that creates an error which makes it seem as if the file is missing (again due to hotlinking protection)

This is people's first look at the game, it should be a high quality file, you can only make a first impression once. To me the HL2 binks are the gold standard, they look just like the game is running on your computer.

It's hard to have a last impression with people and with games. Your last impression would be when you are finished playing the game.

I don't think it's as explicit as that. You won't consciously refuse to be impressed, it just won't have the same emotional impact on you the second time around.

So you'll see the gameplay mechanics in the low-res video, and you'll get to admire the graphics in the high-res video, but those two moments will be separate, instead of being gelled together as part of one giant "wow" moment.

Consider it a taste of things to come. People are always on the lookout come E3 for new, innovative products that they can put down in their wishlist - and Prey wouldn't be one of them if there was nothing for people to see.

Comprehending the way Prey plays requires people to see the game in action. If it was just another typical shooter, then the previews that popped up earlier would have been enough. 3DR and HH didn't have anything ready, so while they prepare something for us (and who knows? maybe it'll have a little something extra http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif) the goal to spread the shakycam vids around should help those who couldn't visualize the game properly.

I think Scott said they'd be releasing it via MoviesXStream within a week or two. They also said they'd release a normal version (for download, but not as high quality).

That reaction seems normal enough. The E3 presentation's main purpose (imo) was to get the creative juices flowing in our heads. What we got to see was 11 minutes worth of operators. It's a lot like giving someone interested in math a '+' and '-' symbol, and showing them 2 or 3 possible combinations. If you have an imagination, you'll be able to see how many possibilities there really are.

Though I'm getting a little tired of the E3 reruns on G4, I finally saw the PC @ E3 segment of Judgment Day. Tommy and Victor were both pretty enthused about Prey. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/thumbsup.gif Unfortunately, the other G4 hosts were knocking it during their E3 wrapup, but it was all based on the fact that we've known about it since '97/'98. Nothing substantive. When they were saying all of that, the IGN guy jumped in and said something like, "Yeah, but none of that matters once it ships, and it's looking great."

I think as more media like the high-quality video becomes available, buzz is going to be pretty strong for this one.

Yes, but they also have said that the bar scene wasn't done, when it was part of the demo that was shown at E3. I think they will polish/finish that scene a little more, and maybe a few other things might be tweaked before they are releasing a movie.
