View Full Version : Some new infos from german pc magazin PC Games

It is from an interview with Chris Rhinehart,most of the things are new for me:

-Tommy donīt likes his origin and the cultur of the Cherokees, he joined the army to get away from his problems, later he came back to start a new life with his girlfriend Jenny (who is very proud of her cultur, we should expect some interesting story elements using this fact)
-There will be ingame-cutscenes (like in HL2) in every level
-When Tommy dies, he will death walk (known), the more creatures he kills, the more health he will get back in the real world but the longer he stays in death walking mode, the bigger is the possibility that he will finally die
-when you jump while youīre walking on a walk-pad, the normal gravity will be back for you

-there will be no fighting in teams alongside with other chars
-most parts of the game will take place on the space ship which will offer very different environments, but we also have to battle enemys in space and on the hull of the ship!

-mp will feature spirit walking
-The production of Prey was stopped in the late 90s because 3dr thought that it canīt be the game which it should be atm
-The name for Prey before the reannouncement was Dark Harvest
-It will be M rated in america
-Right now there are preparing everything for the phase of polishing, most parts of the game existing

I thought it was already stated that scenes are done in the Hl2 style....in game and not videos. You are supposed to have control. I think this is true since that bar scene and the one where he is talking to the chief both happen while the player is in control...

I'm guessing the acid gun was that weapon he shot after he got out of the ship on that moon thing.

Personally, I prefer cutscenes, but only if they are done the way they are supposed to be done. Meaning, you would need a professional director, and editor to do the cut scenes proper justice. If human head doesn't know what they are doing, or doesn't hire someone that does, then they should stick to HL2 style scenes.

what happens when you die in deathwalk mode? that's why I hope there are autosaves http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif 3DR what happens when you die? autosaves? or does the player that doesn't quicksave every 5 mins have to redo a big part of the level, or maybe a whole level? the whole game maybe? http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/redface.gif
and when do you die in deathwalking mode? at random time, or when your health reaches zero (which is already zero when the player enters deathwalking)

That article is incorrect. There are no cutscenes in Prey. Everything is seamless and always seen from the player's viewpoint.

Iīve just written down the necessary informations from the article!
Anyway, I prefer a mixture of real cutscenes and ingame stuff, that would be the best imo http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

and ingame cutscenes = cool

What they obviously meant was that there will be ingame cutscenes from the players perspective. Notice the "like in HL2", I can't recall any cutscense in third person in that game.

He edited that part in. It just said cut-scenes at first

Good. As much as I like the occasional cut scene....I enjoy HL2's viewpoint much better. Instead of just 'watching' you actually a part of the scene.

But will there be scripted scenes, i.e. scenes where you don't play (but the storie evolves) that you see through the eye of the player??

that's indeed the big disadvantage of no cutscenes, the story can't progress in the background (NPC's talking to you is the only way), that's why you know too few about HL's storyline, people want to know how it ends, sometimes the ending of a game is more fun than the whole game itself.

I think Prey will have a very satisfying end given what they're trying to accomplish as far as player reaction goes. Lemme put it this way: if you want a player to be emotionally impacted by a games story, then dropping the user into a confusing situation (ala Half-Life 2) and throwing so much action in his face that he can barely have enough time to absorb the subtle details is *not* the way to do it http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Now if you build a game in this style with the intent of bringing your player to tears...that's going to take a serious direction change from anything we've seen in the past.

Reminds me of Redneck Rampage. Didn't that game feature a cut-off alien with gun mounted to it, aswell?
