What if the exit is just one body length ahead of the portal. The colliding problem will be elliminated.

Anothe cool idea. What if an enemy had a portal attached to it, and your weapons shoot through the portal instead of in the enemy. And also little annoying things come out of the portal in the enemy's body to kill you....

edit: Let someone with higher power(joe, chris, george, Tux, God, Satan, Mom) rename this to portal usage ideas.

good idea, and the exit of the portal on that enemy is chasing you, so you have to move forward, or else when you shoot into the portal on that enemy, and the exit of the portal chased you right behind you, you would shoot yourself http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Another idea(god I'm on a roll(heh, I just used the name of God in vain, reminds of Monty Python and the Life of Brian)).

An n-walled thingy(a cube has 4 walls, that thing would have like... 16, I shall call it a hexacube!).
So a hexacube, spinning really fast, where each wall is a portal.

Question. What happens if two portals are at an angle and you walk in both? You get split up in space?

Another idea. A gun shooting severals portals in the form of a pyramid, with the tip towrd the enemy. The enemy splits in pieces.

Final idea, a great invisible portal which sends you back one body length. That'll be a cool force-field thingy...

Portal Invisible(sort-of) Cloak

A Portal in the shape of a cyllinder, surrounding you, with every point of the cyllinder being an exit point on the other side.

Good for multiplayer battles, because its not completely invisible, probably you'll see some lack of "synchornoziation" of objects' places.

Really important question... Can you bend 2dportals in 3d space? A bending portal would be really cool.

I always liked the concept of multiple portals set up so you can shoot a rocket, and have it bounce through a few portals before hitting it's target.

NOTE: This is personal speculation, not based on anything that is or is not in the game.

Not really. 2 triangular shapes next to each other, and you can quite clearly touch both at the same time.

Many of these zany portal ideas are likely possible, but won't be in the game because they don't fit the game's fiction. I'm hoping that modders will have a field day taking portals and gravity tricks to their ultimate limits.

I imagine we'll get a little crazy with the MP maps, but there'll be plenty of unexplored ideas left for modders to flesh out.

Gravity, especially, is such a fertile area to play with. Imagine a huge cube where each side of the cube is a floor, with it's own gravity pulling you down. In the middle there might be a large sphere with it's own central gravity, allowing you to run all the way around it. Various phasing in & out portals allow you to jump to the different floors from the central sphere, and back. And of course you can shoot through gravity without shots being affected. But thrown objects, like the explosive crabs, will change course as they enter different gravity fields.

So, so much to explore...

As a modder and UnrealScripter I can say that the coolest ideas always come later. This means when you start to modifiy the game's original code then the ideas fly.

That's why people like me can't wait to check out Prey's portal tech finally. I hope the Preditor will include user-friendly tools to modifiy Prey's code. This is very exciting. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
