Any one know a good program to extract video from a dvd in macos x?

Yep there are a few...

It depends what you want to do with the video. Just rip it or convert it into an avi/mog/mov.

If you want the best quality low file size get quick time pro (it don't cost much) and then you can export movies to the new H.264 format (mac only at the moment) which is great.

I think I used one once called Mac The Ripper...
