I agree completely. Sadly Luigi's Mansion sucked, and Sunshine didn't offer anything new or innovative. It was ok though, but it's defintely not a true sequel.

The thing is, Mario Tennis could offer new things that a serious tennis game can't. But with baseball you can't. I mean, you're just hitting the ball and running, what else can you add? At least in Mario tennis you could add power moves and so on.

They've been working on Mario 128 for years. There's new platformer on the DS. Lots of great new platformers (eg. Jungle beat, Kirby's canvas curse). It hasn't replaced anything. And as for the mario sparts titles being crap? Well try telling that to critics or people who have, you know, played them. NOrmally among the top of the respective genre and about the only choice for none sim fans. And also always great party games. The slant in here is so steep there's nothing sticking.
For those who are being pessimistic about Mario:
I can think of other IP's that have been screwed up with over-exposure and cease to exist. They do good with Mario, and I feel the bias you have for these games is unfair and just another usual suspects attack on Nintendo.
if you aren't happy with Mario now, you never were. Super Mario Bros. 2 was a completely different game in Japan "Doki! Doki! Panic" that was converted over to hold Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad in it. Everything else is the same as it was in "Doki! Doki! Panic" except for a few minor alterations.
A good game is a good game and it deserves it's praise and respect, but be blind to whatever it is you want to be blind to, it's not affecting me or my feel on the IP itself.

I don't care if they've been working on Mario 128 for 1000 years. It's not out for Gamecube. Which is a dissapointment. I don't have a DS, nor do I plan on buying one for a new Mario Platformer. Keep in mind, they never even released a NEW Mario platformer for the GBA. Just rehashed the old crap, slapped a new box on it, and have the audacity to charge 30 bucks for it http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif
And no, I'm not going to buy that stupid bongo drum donkey kong game. It's not a platformer. It's a silly gimicky pico/ddr/playschool fun with learning piece of crap.
Oh, and I don't give a crap what some review site says about the sports games. They are CRAPTASTIC. They have always been craptastic, and they always will be craptastic.
I don't get all the hate for Mario Sunshine or why it was not a "true sequel." How much more true can you get?
Who hates it? It was a solid title, I liked it. But it's not a true sequel. It offered no improvement over Mario 64, and offered no original, or new gameplay. No, a gimicky waterpump doesn't cut it.

As far as DK:Jungle Beat, it's apparently one of the best platform games in a long ass time, though I can't vouch for that since I haven't played it personally, but of course I know people that have. Mario Sunshine was a nice continuation of Mario 64 but damn, the game was way too hard. Crappy camera controls didn't help either. And I liked the water pump, I didn't find it gimmicky. Just annoying when it spoke.
So what if they make Mario into sports games? It's their IP. As long as the game's fun.

Nintendo is whoring/milking every last ounce of whatever they can get from their exclusive characters. What cracks me up is they always talk about how they're the kings of "innovation" in games.. and then they release Mario Shuffleboard, or Donkey Kong Checkers or some shit http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

to me, mario died after Super Mario World. I ended up getting a Sega Genesis after I had a SNES because I liked Sonic more. Now Sonic is dead too. All the classic platformers have turned to crap only to be replaced with dull, kiddy, weapon oriented pieces of crap that have nothing to do with the basic concept of platformers. The only exception is Conker, and even he started out as a wussy.

BTW Despite Jungle beat having a highly intuitive control system alowing for a great number of complex combos and movement through highly varied environments (in both theme and gameplay) you can play it with a controller if you want. It's just not as fun that way as it is designed for a different control system. But if you can't deal with the shame of playing a drum you could try that. Of course since you didn't know that you've obviously never played it and you're sprouting shit.

Yes I can see how constant use of the same characters could get tired. The good thing about the constant set of characters is that since we are so aware of them, their basic abbilities and playstyles are obvious in any genre they are placed. This sort of natural recognition really helps these ensemble party games (cause let's face it, the focus of most of these games is party play). By creating all new chatacters for each ensemble type game you're going to have lots of characters that will never become known and it adds to the learning curve of the game. What Nintendo should do to remedy this is to create more original IP's (with crazy new games of course http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif ) that can be added to the main mix so that these ensemble games can have more variation on who the playable characters are. This isn't quick though.
Personally I like the basic ensemble though http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Especially anything where Kirby can battle Yoshi http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That's something I completely agree with. I understand they're usage of the same characters, and I have no problem with it. I just feel that to anyone who dislikes Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda etc..It can be very difficult to attract any new fans. I belive this is why the PS2 and Xbox tend to get more attention (at least that's how I perceive things anyway). It seems if you arnet a lifelong fan of these characters, and as long as Nintendo continues they're strategy..It will always be incredibly difficult to grow to like nintendo.

When I played that I had high hopes that one day mario would return as the platform king that he once was in the NES days. Unfortunately we were subjected to another banjo/mario64 game....its not bad, but not what I would rather play.

hehe we've had this discussion before :P
I failed to be there, not likely on purpose, but thank god. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hhg.gif Nobody needs to get into defensive arguing with personal attacks over things that aren't even REAL (i.e. video games)... it's simply stupid. I don't understand why people have to drop to such low levels. Go frag eachother or something.
Actually you would understand, since you done it before

I don't recall personally attacking somebody. I am surely capable of it but I usually prefer not to go that low.

Why don't we all just agree that nintendo needs to get off their fat rears and make us a fricken side-scrolling platformer staring the plumber? I would KILL for a mario game in the venue of Mario 3 or World. No gagety shooters or anything....just a platformer.
That's what they're doing on the DS. It's finally a new platformer in the classic style, and it looks great from what I've seen.

If I had anything to say, I'd milk it even more with books and everything (more books and everything I mean http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif).. "How to loose weight on pizza and pasta - The Mario Way", "The secrets of mushrooms - how to double your "size"", "Flower Power - literally" and so on http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Sorry but no. I won't buy a DS for just one game. That's plain STUPID. Show me 13 other games on that platform with similar or greater quality, then I'll consider it. Till then, no. Sorry.
Erm, how's about
Nintendogs
Animal Crossing
Viewtiful Joe
Metroid
Castlevania
Wario Ware
Advance Wars
Mario & Luigi 2
Mario Kart
Black & White
Electroplankton
Age of Empires
Kirby
GoldenEye: Rogue Agent
Splinter Cell
Need for Speed Underground 2
Mystical Ninja
Polarium
Super Mario 64 DS (has a ton of added content and multiplayer)
The Legend of Zelda
Feel the Magic XY/XX
How many was that? Like 21.... and I skipped a bunch. I made a varied list since I guess it depends on your exact tastes. Keep in mind, the DS will use free internet hookups to your wireless connection if you have one, and all first party games that have internet multiplayer will do so at no charge (such titles include Mario Kart and Animal Crossing DS).
If a game is retarded, I don't play it. Simple as that.
Erm, in this case you don't know if it's retarded or not since you haven't played it, or probably seen it. Interestingly if you've seen it done it's quite smooth action, looks really nice. Has a deep combo system as well. Also you can play with a normal controller, but I guess the bongos actually work out to be incredibly intuitive, moreso that the standard controller.

I've actually been considering mario Dance Dance revolution. Only thing keeping me back is that it will only have 25 songs. Which wouldn't be much of a problem if it became mario-party esque where they come out with some new ones now and then to keep it fresh.
Personally i like seeing the large range of games with the mario franchise. Mario DDR, Mario party, Mario golf/tennis/baseball/strikers(soccer title - upcoming), paper mario, mario kart, sunshine, etc etc etc... the franchise is proving quite diverse. I would like to see a very well done mostly 2d mario again akin to "...world" or "... 3" but I don't know how likely that is http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
(PS: You don't like him, he doesn't like you, but start attacking the issue in the form of debate rather then personal attacks. I have rather heated views on some things and have let them be known but I don't think anyones felt insulted or attacked by my views because i try to keep it at a mature level, i may have let slip the rare occasion but you get my point)

Regardless of the rest of this thread, I own mario golf and think it's one of the best games I own. Mario kart is pretty fun although snes version was better imho. I really don't mind mario pimping himself across the sports genres because it ends up being fun. You could never get me to play a real golf game but mario golf was just pure fun. It wasn't trying to be something it wasnt.

Mario Kart for SNES was the greatest! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/love.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/love.gif
The GBA version is the most balanced IMO.

Viewtiful Joe
Not made by Nintendo
Metroid
Incredibly overrated
Castlevania
When was the last time a good Castelvania game came out? Well, that's irrelevant, being that it's not a Nintendo franchise.
Wario Ware
Another tacky puzzle game
Mario & Luigi 2
Wow! What a great idea! Let's try to mix platformers and RPGs!!!
Mario Kart
A good one hasn't come out since the N64.
The rest aren't even worth quoting because they're 3rd party.

These are solely your opinion, just like anyone elses in here. No one in this forum is the sole authority of what the general consensus of Nintendo is.
We can all have our opinions, but they're just that. Criticism of games doesn't mean that someone else doesn't see it otherwise.

What's your point? It's a list of DS games, not Nintendo games.
Metroid: Incredibly overrated
Yet still very good.
Castlevania: When was the last time a good Castelvania game came out? Well, that's irrelevant, being that it's not a Nintendo franchise.
Noo ne said it was a nintendo franchise. A good one came out about 2 years ago from memory.
Wario Ware: Another tacky puzzle game
Not a puzzle game, but you've obviously never played it or you'd know that.
Mario & Luigi 2: Wow! What a great idea! Let's try to mix platformers and RPGs!!!
Fantastic idea actually. Critically acclaimed and loved by gamers.
Mario Kart: A good one hasn't come out since the N64.
Well aside from the ones that came out there haven't been any good ones. The ones that didn't come out were terrible. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hhg.gif
The rest aren't even worth quoting because they're 3rd party.
Since the list had nothing to do with 1st party it just seem you need some reading comprehension.

Basically, Nintendogs is the top selling game in Japan (it might not look like it, but it's sold in 3 versions, and if you add them together... tada), and basically allows you to raise a dog, train it, etc etc. It's definitely a different sort of game. For me it should provide a ton of fun.
The Metroid game, I believe there are two actually, one 2D, and one Metroid Prime type game (there's a multiplayer Metroid Prime demo packed in with the DS, and the graphics are pretty damned good considering it's first gen especially). Metroid is an awesome game series, and the fact that it's survived the ages with each incarnation being somehow better than the last, well, that should tell you something http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif.
Viewtiful Joe is an awesome series made by Capcom. The DS version looks to be quite killer.
Mario and Luigi 2, the original I haven't played (though I've wanted to, I've been unemployed, and hence not much money for all this stuff), but my friends who have tell me it's quite killer, and reviews seem to reflect it.
Castlevania, there's been many good 2D ones coming out the past couple years on Gameboy Advance, and this one is in the same vein, in fact is a sequel to one of them.
Wario Ware isn't a puzzle game at all, and is strangely addictive. You are playing it and you don't know why, but damned if you are gonna stop any time soon.
Mario Kart, obviously a number of good ones have come out, including Double Dash on Cube, and a really nice old school one on GBA. In this case it has many of the mechanics of the N64 version, plus new stuff, and tracks from many of the Mario Karts, including Double Dash, plus new ones, plus free wireless INTERNET multiplay. So yeah.
As far as the rest, I wonder if you even read it or know anything about the games considering you assume all the rest are 3rd party http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif.
And yeah I don't really care, I'll still get Mario Mix, even if there's only 25 songs because frankly I don't have a playstation, nor have the will to buy an adapter to plug a pad into my PC and emulate it and play it that way. The point is I would be able to stare at something besides my computer monitor for once http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif. AND GET IN SHAPE DOING IT!
